I love Forge. Lots of people do. But I kind of wish it was a bit easier to use and a bit more customizeable. So here are my ideas...
A - Pick up/ Drop Item
B - Fire Monitor beam (Used to be Hold to Drop Item)
X - Inventory/Item Options
Y - Delete Item
Left Analog - Move/Rotate Selected Item
Press in on Left Analogue - Toggle grids
Right Analog - Look/Rotate Selected Item
Right Trigger - Hold to Rotate Selected Item
Left Trigger - Thrust
Right Bumper - Move Up
Left Bumper - Move Down
Directional Pad Up - Play/ Edit Mode
Directional Pad Down - Toggle easy building
Directional Pad Left - Toggle Snapping
Directional Pad Right - Easy weld current object
So the Monitor Beam is like the thing you see at the end of Halo 3 where Spark fires his lazor at Johnson. Same power, same feel, same look. If you've ever been tired of others messing around in Forge, just hold B and the magical beam of death fires at your human foes. These cannot effect other Monitors.
Toggling the grid would make a grid appear across the map's floor, and seperate grids form over individual objects. Toggling the grid would rotate it between Small, Medium and Large grid sizes and then simply no grid.
Snapping is where certain objects slot in with each other, like double/single boxes, walls, tube pieces and even weapons into weapon holders. Objects would have more than 1 snapping point to give more choice. Snapping can be toggled on or off. When snapping is on, objects will abide to the current grid. If there is no grid, objects can be moved freely unless in contact with a compatible snap point.
Easy weld allows two different, non-snappable objects to be placed together. When carrying an object, hit the Right Directional Button. This means that when this object comes into contact with another, it will snap onto its surface. Again, it will abide to the current grid system.

Something else I'd like to see in Forge is a system which allows us to place stuff like speakers and camera feeds. Interactive objects that give games that extra dimension. Maybe even the ability to import JPEGs and spray them onto the walls, ceilings and objects. These would be inside a new Forge category called 'Forge Tools'
FORGE TOOLS:
JPEG Gun - A gun that fires JPEGs that you have uploaded into your game. The melee button opens the menu to choose a graphic and then its size. The graphic is always projected onto a surface, and pulling the Right Trigger commits the graphic to the wall. You can use your JPEG gun on other players to pimp their armour (will wipe after the game)
JPEG Remover - A gun that removes the graphic it is aimed at. The melee button allows you to whack a JPEG to remove it. The Right Trigger fires a Sentinel Beam-like device to instantly remove any graphic it touches. The scope is the same as a Sniper Rifle's.
Camera Gun - Places a video camera on the wall or ceiling. Acts like a JPEG remover, except Right Trigger or Melee place cameras. Monitors can interact with the cameras to dictate where the point, their behaviour and what channel they operate on. Cameras only deliver a video feed.
Microphone Gun - Same as Cameras gun but fires Mics. Mics only deliver an audio feed.
Screen Gun - A gun to fire a screen onto a wall. Melee button opens up the menu to choose what the screen looks like (Human, Covenant.etc) and how big it is. The scope acts like a Sniper Rifle's. A projection of the screen is always shown, and pulling the Right Triggers slaps one onto the surface you choose. Monitors can interact with the screens to dictate how bright, blurry, jumpy the feed is and what channel they operate on. Cameras feed through to screens.
Speaker Gun - Same as Screen Gun, but fires Speakers. Mics feed through to speakers.
N.B.: Only 1 camera and 1 mic per channel.
