Ok so I'm not sure if there have been many topics about an RPG possibiltity or if many people even would want that, but this topic is just a place where RPG fans can share ideas about Halo: Reach being an RPG. Try to stay original and if you don't like the thought of a Halo RPG, then don't post. Please don't post things like "This is Halo," or "That will never happen!' Just use your imagination for some awesome possibilities.

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

Imagination is a fantastic thing, but as Halo: Reach has already been confirmed as an FPS, it seems a little pointless.

An FPS with RPG elements? You know those exist right?

Yeah, but most RPG games have a skill level that increases. How could you, as a Spartan or Marine in the Halo universe have a skill curve like that?

  • 08.26.2009 10:27 AM PDT

what style of fighting? please reply.

  • 08.26.2009 10:28 AM PDT

you get faster, stronger and unlock upgades for your armour and stuff like that

plus you can buy new vercals and weps

Exactly what they said^. Being a Spartan, there are SO many different things you could upgrade. Armor, speed, strength, ammo capacity, rate of fire for some guns, etc. Plus stuff for guns like attachments. You could even unlock guns as you progress. If anyone has heard about Borderlands, they have the right idea when it omes to blending RPG with FPS

Classes could also play a big role

With every step the humankind takes, we then leap one yard backwards.

if you have played Resident Evil 4 (and possibly 5, I havn't tried it yet) where you buy better guns and upgrades for them. And insted of upgrading stats, you buy new armour types that have different abilities, that way you can't create the "Ultimate Character" for multiplayer.

[Yeah I put a lot of thought into it ever since Halo 1 and I also had a lot of other ideas for RPGs, including WW2, MW, & zombies!]

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

If the new Borderlands game (you need to check it out if you haven't seen it) was a Halo game, I would be crapping my pants right now. It already looks so good.

But I would love this incorporated into the Halo universe, it is already set up so perfectly.

Fallout 3 and Oblivion can also be defined as FPSs.

Oblivion is NOT an FPS... where are the guns?

I'm gonna clear this up now.
Firstly, are you saying in the space of one battle, The Fall of Reach, a Spartan can become better and faster and stronger than he could from 10 years of training?
Secondly, how would Armour increase? During Reach they only had Mark V armour, and Mark VI wasn't made until after Reach, so are you suggesting Mark V.5? Just wouldn't work.
Finally, weapons. Why would the defenders of Reach hold the best weapons back until you are a 'high enough skill'?

And don't go saying that it could be the story of FoR, and that the increasing skill level is throughout your training as a Spartan, because that isn't RGP training. Thats a difficulty curve in all FPS.

Sorry about being so argumental, but Halo as a FPS should not be an RPG. I love RPG, Oblivion is my favourite game ever, but Halo should not meet Oblivion halfway.

I'd like to thank Daniella, my special friend, and all the people at my first group, ODSTR. May the said group dominate BUNGIE Again!

well, marines could start at a low rank, and as they fight more, they become more accurate, faster, better at leading, and get promotions, or medals.

When it comes down to it, Halo has always been a simple FPS that anyone can pick up and have explosive luls. Adding RPG elements to that complicates things and takes away from the core principle, and also makes it less of a sandbox style game where you can do anything from racing in mongooses to playing MLG.

I really just don't see it happening.

Why does everyone think that everything has to make perfect sense? This is a VIDEO GAME. NOT REAL. That means anything can happen for the sake of having fun

This isn't about real life versus virtual reality. The fact of the matter is that in a story-driven linear campaign, RPG elements do not work well in the sandbox-styled gameplay Bungie explores.

There are many good sandbox-styled RPG's out there. And for story, the whole point of an RPG is the story. Can you please take a look at the new game Borderlands. You will see how great a Halo FPS RPG could be

Yes, but the difference between a game like Fallout 3 and Halo 3 is that the former has an open world, and the latter is linear. RPG's work best in the former because it allows you to proceed at your pace, and make up for any mistakes you may have made.

RPG's require a player to level up and build up his equipment to take on the more difficult enemies as the game progresses. There would be no such fun in such a genre-changing twist for Reach that would have me restart the whole game because I decided to just run through each level, and I cant beat some of the later ones because I didn't level up.

And how do you know Reach won't be open-world? ODST will be, so why not Reach?
