Subject: First UNSC Melee Weapon Idea

Haven't you guys ever thought about the fact that the Covenant were the only ones that had melee weapons (energy sword and gravity hammer) and yet the UNSC don't? Maby it's because we've gone too far into the future so melee weapons are retired, or maby we just have to make a futuristic melee weapon. My Idea of a future melee weapon maby could be a self heating sword that just heats itself so much it can slice through objects allot better and cleaner then average swords, and is strong enough to hold it's shape without breaking. Just an Idea, any others?

The energy sword is fine...

It is but there still isn't an UNSC melee weapon.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Once Spartans were equipped with Mjolnir armor, the need for Knives was also lost, they became more than strong enough to kill without a weapon. The Energy Sword is a ceremonial weapon, more a symbol of honor than a tool. The Gravity Hammer is just a preference for Jiralhanae Chieftains. Kind of a symbol of power.

combat knifes would be fun but it would work like this

you use the normal mellee to take down the sheilds and then on the final vlow you stick your knife in them becuse lets face it puching something the same size and stranth of you wont kill it.

what do you think

well the covenant go by honor and is it not honor to fight your enemy up close with a sword and see the enemy die by your sword instead of going to the cowards way of destroying your enemy's from far away with a rifle. So in this sense the unsc are cowards who still get beaten

i'm thinking a ut3 style melee weapon would work (it was a portable mine jackhammer-esque gun)

Caboose -1

It looks like a Puma?!?

They had a Knife in 2nd Battle Of Reach...

I want to see a Spartan Mace

  • 08.26.2009 12:02 PM PDT

why not go with my idea and make it a animation, when the enermy has no sheilds, you stick a knife in them for the epic kill!

with grunts and jackels becuse they dont have any sheilds you just stick it into there flesh :)

I agree with D0nald, the energy sword is fine.

I really can't see a metal knife penetrating both the energy shield and the combat armor of a Covenant soldier..

I don't waste my time reading posts full of mistakes. It usually is a good indicator of how the person's idea is.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Look at the technology levels of the two races. As it stands humans do not have the tech to make a melee weapon that would be effective against energy shielding, that is the issue. The books have mention the use of combat knives a few times against Grunts, Jackals, and I believe a Brute. But for Elites or the current shielded Brutes, there isn't much it could do.

It cannot always be item for item with the races, which is why UNSC has the shotgun, and the Covenant has the sword.

Doesn't change the fact that I'm not gonna take your post as seriously as one that is well typed out.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

In the modern military, the only melee weapon they have is a combat knife. In the Halo universe, most human melee weapons would be useless against Covenant, unless wielded by a Spartan. Spartans were made to combat insurrectionists, not covenant. With such a war, the UNSC would have no time to make a melee weapon for Spartan use, and the money spent developing such a weapon would be useless when I can be spent on more worthwhile things.

fine you want well typed out, here

My idea is that you use a knife when the enermies sheilds are down. for exzample, i go up to a brute and use the normal spartan punch to take down the enermies shields, then i would follow it by using another mellee animated by a knife cutting throught the enermy for the finisher

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

I can assure you, this isn't the first time someone's come up with the idea for a human melee weapon for a Halo game. Won't be the last either. The answer is as it always was, and will be; no, not likely, not needed.

Humans can has melee weapons, look...

Close Quarters Combat Weapon System
Humbler Stun Device

And of course...

  • 08.26.2009 1:20 PM PDT

If a Spartan can take down an Elites shields with a good smack, I really don't see the need for a melee weapon. For ODST, it would have been cool to use combat knives though...

  • 08.26.2009 1:44 PM PDT

i always thought ripping through an elite with a chainsaw would be cool, but everybody would probably think bungie's just copying gow.
