Keeping this idea in the flow with all the others

plz leave the halo forums.. [/quote]

Why ask him to leave the halo forums. He was just sharing his ideas with the community, and asking him to leave because you disagree with him is incredibly ignorant. You didn't even offer any criticisms to help him enhance his ideas, you just bashed them because they arent your own. If you are going around dogging other people's ideas because of some false sense of superiority over everyone else in the community then plz leave the halo forums.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

he just said that bungie could balance it out

^Someone that actually read it. Thank you.
Explain HOW they would balance players having different base player traits.

Go on, I'll wait.

While I'm waiting:

Fighter---------------------Melee attacks do 25% more damage
serious issues with melee tying.

Scout-----------------------Active camo lasts 50% longer
This one would be worthless. Not every map even has Active Camo.

Airborne-------------------Jump height is increased by 25%
This would let some people access areas of a map, while other players couldn't.

Survivor--------------------Shields are increased by 25%
This would screw up the melee tie system even more, in addition to throwing off calculations for VIP and the like.

Accelerator---------------Speed is increased by 25%
Unfair for Objective matches. Runners could outrun every other class.

Heavy Weapons--------Turrets, missle pods, lasers, and rockets do 15% more damage
Not every map has heavy weapons, and they do heaps of damage already.

Pilot------------------------Vehicle speed and weapons damage are increased by 10%
What about warthogs? Does the driver give the bonus damage to the weapon? Imagine this on a Scorpion. It could run people over much easier.

Sniper---------------------Weapons with zoom can zoom in 15% more
Like the Sniper Rifle isn't a good enough weapon as it is.

I don't want these changes because they shift the fundamental constant of Halo:
Every player's base traits are equivalent. If you change that in any way, they would be different. Different =/= equal. Your changes would be unbalancing.

What do you mean how? It's a matter of coming up with the correct numbers and percentages that stats would be increased by. This could only be balanced out correctly by bungie from MANY times playing multiplayer and smoothing out advantages.

They could spend thousands of hours doing that.

OR

They could use the system they have now, and do exactly half of the work by only balancing weapons, instead of balancing weapons and players.

So your point is that bungie is just too lazy to carry out this idea?

  • 09.14.2009 3:18 PM PDT

This would destroy Halo.
Good job.

Many of you here are very opposed to the idea of a class-based Halo. I can see why because the same formua has been so successful for so long, but I believe there is a way to add not exactly class-based gameplay but more of a "specialization" kind of thing.

Since the weapons in Halo are not meant to be balanced or good for classes, classes could not exist where you spawn with your choice of weapon. Obviously, everyone would just pick the sniper or rocket and there would be no point in the classes. This would just destroy the game. This means that the only thing that would pertain to "classes" would be your character's preformance.

What I suggest is where you choose what your Spartan excels at. This could easily be done by going to the normal menu where you change control scheme, armor, etc. You would choose "Specialty" and a list of specialties and what they do would come up. This list would include things like:

Fighter---------------------Melee attacks do 25% more damage
Scout-----------------------Active camo lasts 50% longer
Airborne-------------------Jump height is increased by 25%
Survivor--------------------Shields are increased by 25%
Accelerator---------------Speed is increased by 25%
Heavy Weapons--------Turrets, missle pods, lasers, and rockets do 15% more damage
Pilot------------------------Vehicle speed and weapons damage are increased by 10%
Sniper---------------------Weapons with zoom can zoom in 15% more

This is just an idea of what it would be like, not actual suggestions. Bungie would be much better at balancing them out, but you get the general idea. With this system, you would have so much more customization that would only benefit your style of play and not take away from the gameplay. Please share your thoughts on this =)

P.S. If anyone has a good idea, I will add it here

NEW IDEAS:
Thanks go to Jacoby04 for this. Instead of this system being for main multiplayer, there could be just a playlist for it. That way, both the classic Halo fans will be kept happy, as well as the ones who enjoy more of a class-based multiplayer.

Just NO

No offense, but this idea is just flat out awful.

If Reach has any classes in it I will not buy it at all. I'm sure a lot of people agree.

Yeah i kinda agree.

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

No their point is the game is probably close to being if not already in Alpha testing stages, so this would be impossible to put in with out delay.

Also stop bumping the dam post! You've lost any chance of support from me by bumping, I don't respect it and neither do most people on the forums. That and you could be banned for it.

i really like the idea of classes in a halo game, but not in bungie's last halo game.

if microsoft does something like star wars battlefront i will buy it, but if this is definetely bungie's last one, then i want a normal halo.

see where i'm coming from?

but good idea nonetheless

  • 10.06.2009 3:52 PM PDT

If reach comes out like this I will not buy it. Classes would ruin the game and not make it "halo" at all.

  • 10.06.2009 3:54 PM PDT

melee already can take down an entire spartan shield why add 25% more damage that would make instant kill.

No, I am saying that they could spend that time balancing weapons instead. Which, is what I would rather have than a potentially toxic class system, ripe for abuse.

Yeah okay i get that since its Bungies last Halo game they should stick to what has worked before. Maybe they will make a game like this in the far future

Dear god. I posted something descriptive on classess a month ago or so, and now I see all these people acting like they're original.

(Not you OP, you're just making a way it could work) but still...

I like the idea IF they were going to have classes I would want this rather than everyone choosing sniper and sniping people from across the map (like Battlefield games). maybe they can give these bonuses with certain pieces of armor? like a CQB/assault armor would give you the melee increase, and the EVA/Flight would give you the vehicle increase.

again, this is only IF they put classes in Reach, I would prefer not to have them. If they do add them it will still be fun, but it will lose a little of the Halo feel

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

Bungie cannot, and probably will not, balance class games. I've noticed that all class-based games (or any game that modifies individual player trates) are heavily unbalanced, and only makes the game more frusterating.

Adding this idea would destroy the careful balance of the Sandbox. I would love to be in an AR fight when somebody with their "Fighter" crap survives and leaves me to die after I clearly began to shoot first.

Okay yeah I like the armor idea, that would be a cool little thing, but people wouldnt want to have to look a certain way just cause they want the specialty. And these arent classes, just small changes in your stats that suit your style. And the "Fighter" thing - that is what its meant for but if it wasnt fair, it could always be taken out. Bungie would have to test all of these thoroughly.
