Hi, I am the White Mamba Overlord of our group the ODSM.
We are not a clan, and we don't play the game for competition. Instead we play for fun, and to hang out with friends. If you are interested in joining go to our group homepage and sign up. Membership is open.
We are mostly a Halo 3: ODST group for help with achievements and stuff, but we also will play a lot of Halo 3 matchmaking.

Ok, so a lot of people keep on insisting that Halo Reach is based off the book. I have not read anywhere that it is for sure based off of the book.
I am not saying that it is not, so don't get me rong. I just don't think that Bungie would make a game where we already know the story for.
All I am trying to say is that people should stop saying things are for sure until we get some solid info on Reach.

Remember,
It is easy to be male
it is another thing to be a man.

I agree with you that people need to stop assuming that Reach will follow the book.
We only know that Reach is an prequel and that it is an FPS.

That it takes place on Reach. that the Covenant didn't attack until the events of the book

i would just like to point out that hte reach trailer says:
From the beginning, you know the end.

make of it what you will but IMO it seems pretty obvious that its based on the book

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I personally hope it is not based on the book. Halo: Reach the book does not sound particularly interesting.

It would be one thing if the games were based on a previous series of books, but the books are based on the games.

Plus it would make all the extreme, canon Halo fans mad, and that would be funny.

That really could mean anything. "From the beginning, you know the end" does mean that we will see Reach fall, but who says that we will follow the same story in the book?
We will just have to wait and see I guess...

Welp, seeing as how in the trailer a planet is getting glassed, just like Reach did... that, and the NAME.... is all the proof I need.

are we sure its a prequil? Could it be that Reach is the planet we left Master Chief floating to and that the some of his squad of Spartains could have survived the glassing of a planet?

Yeah. The product page or whatever on Xbox.com says so.

Id like to see it start off about what happens at Reach, then branching off following our new heroes on their own adventure, which finally ends up where the Chief is at the end of H3. Then you have got it all set up for a new story arc.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Actually most of the educated opinions feel only that the game will certainly at some point cover the UNSC's loss at Reach, which happened at the end of the novel. If you need proof for that though, the teaser trailer is very much inline with an accelerated version of how bad things got there as the Covenant arrived, and their arrival signifies Reachs "fall".

I agree with that part of it. The story I'm talking about is with the spartans in the book.

  • 08.27.2009 2:55 PM PDT

It for sure isn't going to be based entirely off the book. As the book is like 15 minutes of action and the rest is talking. However, the Book is Canon, so you can use it as a reference for what was going on at the time.

Either the game is going to focus on the spartans on the Red Team as they continue to fight on the ground of Reach as the pillar of Autumn jumps away (Supporting Evidence: the symbol for blog stories about Reach on the News submit page is a red dragon, could be an emblem to represent the red team.), or some other group of Spartans / Marines not mentioned in the book.

You won't play as chief for sure.
