The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

Not my call, lol.

Anyway, Just fooled around in Uplift and I noticed that there's a full Laser that you can pick up at the park (where the Firefight level is played out). It's right under the stairs where the Marine with his own Laser walks down. Good to know if you want it.

And for Tayari Plaza, did you guys kill the Hunters? Or did you skip them?

MATCLAN, the Engineers are done with from a single Plasma Overcharge. Not on Mythic, that'd take two shots as Vince stated.

I prefer the term "evaded". But yeah, I ran like hell as soon as I killed the gunner on the turret, mind you I had to evade a surprise attack by a Brute and a Jackal.

Heh.

One thing, how do you easily deal with Jackals that seem to be made of Iron now? Anything I do, they don't flinch and when I take their shields out, they cover their whole damn head with their hands.

  • 09.24.2009 3:47 PM PDT

Loose talk is noose talk.

I almost managed Tayari Plaza today. Ran out of Carbine/Automag ammo. Then it was over anyway.

Mombassa Streets shouldn't be counted since it doesn't have a definitive end.

I found a way for Mombasa Streets to work. If we play it by the longest distance, ONI Alpha Site is the furthest beacon from where you start(900+ m). I just did that and it was a little more of a pain than I was expecting. Engineers take two overcharged shots to kill on Mythic. I'm not sure why, exactly...

I started off getting ambushed by Jackals immediately. And by ambushed, I mean there were two standing right next to where I landed.

I really think we should count Mombasa Streets, though. Consensus?

I think it would be hard to count the streets. I say just the levels, the streets are a real pain. Also, I'm not sure how we could gteit to work unless Mythic was all one playthrough.

  • 09.24.2009 7:31 PM PDT

I mean because going from the start to any beacon counts as completing Mombasa Streets (going from the start to the first beacon counted as completing Mombasa Streets on Legendary).

Dutch keeps screwing me over on Kizingo Boulevard. He decides to just stand around instead of backing me up.

Gazas I found an easy way to deal with the jackals now. Instead of popping an overcharged shot into their shields, just fire off about 5 to 10 quick uncharged PP shots at their hand and they'll throw back their shield for an easy headshot.

In my video on the prior page you can see how it's done.

For Kizingo, how do you approach the level itself? I just trade my rockets to a marine and run for the furthest tank at the start; getting the health can once I've taken out the enemies behind the second wraith.

I haven't gotten past the point where the first phantom comes in to drop off troops, but I figure that once I'm passed them and at Dutch's position, I'll just take the rockets back and give them to him.

Also, after looking around in theater mode, the only 2 health cans I've seen are the ones in the first area with the tanks and to the back right exit in the first phantom area, so avoiding brute shot fire is a must.

There's a health pack inside of the building where Rookie finds the Gauss Turret as well. Downstairs. Helped me out a lot.

Where are the health packs in the beginning? Only time I lost my health and got in trouble because of it.

I eventually noticed the Silenced SMG is fairly good at taking out Jackals, but there's usually better options. The BR is better in this aspect compared to the Pistol, at least with Blind on. I never had much trouble pulling off a two-hit kill over and over on Jackals.

At the very least, I use the Silenced SMG as a means of causing the Jackals to recoil and get in a beatdown before backing off to repeat the process, but in any case it seems it's a matter quick successive hits.

You could always try a Brute Shot.

The same way I approach everything in Mythic: with caution and observation.

As it just so happens, I was kind of torn on what exactly I wanted to do at the start. On one hand, you have a Wraith coming up behind you. And on the other, there's three Grunts and a Brute to your left. The most obvious choice is to run like hell.

I decided to look for other options. And lo and behold, I came up with one and even stumbled upon something I didn't notice. There are two Scorpion Tanks. So, I started ignoring the one with Marines in it because I'll get damaged like crazy waiting for the driver to get out.

On that note, though...

Kizingo Boulevard down.

Giving Dutch Rockets is the way to go, and the ODST allies are good with them...unfortunately, I'd rather have the Arbiter since he never throws grenades and actually uses the Rocket Launcher. The AI don't use the Rocket Launcher too much, but they're pretty accurate.

Random side notes:

Snipers can one-hit kill you on Legendary when you're at full health. Headshot from a Beam Rifle, need I say more?

There's no SMG in Tayari Plaza at the Jackal paradise area. lol.

Anyway, nice job on the tank mission.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

Uplift reserve I dare say this is the easiest mythic level. I managed to finish it in 4:02 using some of my own shortcuts and i still messed up. I could probably get under 3 mins if i tried.

Yeah it's pretty easy, only hard part would be to get the Marines to kill the Banshee and the Choppers.

Oh and something I love about Blind now is that you can see when you're low on Stamina. It's actually pretty cool when the screen is all red, then when you get you health up, you go "Wow, this is how it actually looks like?"

If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

Just thought I'd mention that if anyone's having problems adjusting to Blind with the Pistol as opposed tot he BR, it's because the BR had a 2x scope whereas the Pistol has a 4x scope meaning you might be just a tad out of synch. Not sure it'll help anyone but thought I'd mention it anyway.

I'd also like to ask; what classifies Mythic Firefight? Playing with all Secondary skulls and no deaths at all? Or do we say you have to "earn" Mythic by reaching Set 5?

Yeah, I eventually noticed the Pistols superior zoom when I had had the Pistol and the Carbine and I zoomed in with one then switched and went to zoom with the other so I could save Pistol ammo.

Edit: Also, someone needs to find an easy way to kill Hunters. The Plasma Rifle in Halo 3 could perform the same stun effect as the Spiker to a Hunters back. So I will presume that a Brute Plasma Rifle does too.

Anyway, so I tried that on a Hunter and it didn't stun him.

I'll go find a Hunter later and test to see if the Spiker stun is gone. At the moment, Hunters went from being something that are tough but you have easy ways to deal with (Halo 3) to "Hunters?! What am I going to do?"

Unless I have heavy weapons, I don't feel comfortable fighting Hunters anymore. Maybe the Brute Shot does decent damage? I mean, it does use explosives.

Same issue here. I have only managed to down one so far, and it was using the Spartan Laser. Even in Halo 3, aside from Vince's methods, there were simpple ways to deal with every Hunter encounter in the game whether you knew how to tap-dance around them with a Spiker or not.

The Arbiter could deal with the ones in The Storm.

You could force the first pair in The Ark to commit suicide, and then use the tank to kill the rest.

And you've got the Fuel Rod Cannon to use against the Hunters in The Covenant.

Now, it's kind of like... hrmmmm...

When the dust settles, you will learn what true terror is.

Not sure how viable this would be in Mythic, but I was able to coax one hunter into killing the other for me on legendary. Basically I strafed back and forth between them while they kept shooting, and eventually the assault beam hunter died. After that, i stuck the golden hunter in the chest with a couple spike grenades, and the grenade + the spikes bouncing off the inside of its shield did massive damage to it.

You guys are having Problems with Hunters? I'm having problems with Jackals, I can't kill them.

Anyway, I deal with all Hunters like I've always done. Brute Shot to the back. Melee, go around, melee, repeat. Only problem is that they're two so you have to separate them. Try that by going in to the buildings, they will follow you in.

If your talking about the 2 hunters on tyari plaza you can easily run past them. Thats what I did in my play through on legendary and it worked without much trouble. Once you go to the door where they come out of the door will close begind you.

My new best uplift reserve time is something like 3:57 and i can still improve on that. There are entire battles that you can skip.

Can anyone imagine how bad data hive and coastal highway are going to be on mythic?

I can, since I've tried Coastal Highway on Mythic a few times. I haven't even made it to the Scorpion yet. Even if I survive, the Oliphant dies.

ONI Alpha Site finished. The Chieftain gave me a scare at the end. He came in and swung his hammer, but I had noticed him fast enough to not die from it. He chased me out of the hallway, damaging me again. Then he chased me all the way around the outside (I didn't want to get shot at by and of the other Brutes), I ended up grabbing a new Plasma Pistol, lowering his shields and well...I charged my laser. Direct hit, but no, the Chieftain used his invincibility. Again he charged, and I evaded and went in for the assassination instead. Success. The rest was just a matter of picking off the two remaining Brutes who were shooting at the Pelican.

And with four missions now complete...

Uplift Reserve is now in File Share.

I could have done it more quickly, but that isn't exactly what I was going for. The shortcuts I took after the first shortcut around the Choppers were on a whim. As I said, it was my second attempt.

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Staff Writer and speedrun record holder at highspeedhalo.net

Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.

Rocking Bungie.net for over 8 years!

On Hunters: The SMG seems surprsingly effective. I've been downing them with half a clip on normal. Vastly outclasses the Brute PR anyway. Not sure how well its effectiveness holds to Mythic, but its something to look into.

I tried both Tayari Plaza and Uplift Reserve without blind or iron; not too bad. Might have a serious attempt soon.

Note on pistol ammo on Tayari Plaza: Right after you find the two marines and head left towards the brute pack, on the 1st and second floor balcony, there is a weird...glitched area that seems to give you automag ammo even though there isn't the gun or an ammo pack in sight. If you head in the door on your left as you go towards the brutes and up the stairs, its on your left as you reach the balcony. Around the body of a dead elite. And on the 2nd floor, same place, around the body of a marine. Don't know whats going on there, but it gave me a fair amount of ammo, at least 40 rounds I think.

On the issue of whether or not to include the Mombasa streets: It'll be incredibly hard to verify. All the films are named the same, and it doesn't give any indication what the start and end points are. Each mombasa film would have to be viewed to verify. And even then, would it have to be a film that was "in sequence". i.e. In between your film of Tayari Plaza and Uplift Reserve you'd need a film showing you go from the first beacon's location to the next, which'd mean you'd have had to complete Tayari Plaza on Mythic first to do that. And 6 films all starting at the Rookie's crash site (for example) and going to a different beacon would be incredibly strange and arbitrary I feel.

For simplicity's sake, linear missions only = Mythic.

If people want to do a single segment, then yeah, obviously Mombasa Streets would count.
