A tip for Mythic: I found out that if you shoot a Golden Hunter in the back with your pistol, it flinches everytime. I will get a vid up soon.

Edit: I tried this in Firefight and it didnt work. Me Fail. :P

I don't think it's necessary though, they go down from a couple of SMG shots in the back.

Muzza: In regards to NMPD HQ, yeah, starting with the Grunts is the way to go. I was quick to snipe two which caused the Brute to berserk. Easy assassination for me. I kept my sniper rifle handy up until after the area with Jackal Snipers was devoid of Beam Rifle shots.

Now, let's talk Coastal Highway. My God I hate this level, mainly because of how stupid Buck's AI tends to be. Two times in a row when I got to the Gauss Hog, he hops in the side-seat and refuses to get in the gunner-seat and of course, Dare died.

I might go try Data Hive instead, but it most certainly seems my initial assessment when I played through on Heroic is correct: Coastal Highway is the most difficult level on Mythic.

Even more so than the Ark, if only because I have to protect the Oliphant.

That's why I hate escort missions.

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Best Regards,
The Tyrant

I agree. I still haven't completed the campaign on my own. I've been playing my first time through on Legendary with all skulls activated except for Iron, Blind, Blackeye, and Famine. Needless to say, the only level I'm finding to be a real issue so far is Coastal Highway, mainly because no matter how pro you can play campaign, when you have to keep someone else alive, it becomes an entirely different issue.

First time through? Wow! I would never do that on my first time playing a game, I wouldn't last long at all.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing. Coastal Highway is by far the hardest mission, and Buck's stupidity just compounds the problem.

To Vince: If you haven't found all the audio logs yet, the final one is on Data Hive, you have to have all 29 going into the level and follow the Police officer guy when he runs into another room once you reach the icy area. After that, he'll try to kill you, but at least you'll have the achievement, lol.

I've never really had a problem with Buck...yet.

He does his job good with me though.

Hmm... For me he's shown that he's pro at Gaussing Banshees, but aims at everything except priority targets when shooting infantry and Ghosts. He also suffers from the usual marine syndrome of "OMG I must burst fire my chaingun even if they survive then shoot the corpse instead of another enemy."
Otherwise he's fine.

I tried Data Hive a few times. It's not that bad. Due to me having 29 (30 now) audio logs, the cop comes with me to Sublevel 9 now and I don't have to deal with Drones coming out through the door.

However, the point I keep dying is due to the same enemy both times I made it in to the hive. The Drone Leader. As soon as I've killed one too many Drones he flies past Dare and harasses me with his Plasma Rifle until I die.

I'm getting an understanding for Coastal Highway, though, and I've been adjusting my weapon setup for problem areas. Full Rocket Launcher and 100% Plasma Pistol going on to the highway (Rockets to destroy the sniping towers the Fuel Rod Grunts sit in and Plasma Pistol to disable/remove shields from Brutes in Ghosts so Buck can kill them more easily)

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

With NMPD HQ one of the grunts came up to the balcony thing where you fist go thanks to him I was able to pull the level off. I did have trouble with the chieftan I found that beam rifles do nothing to them except stun them for a few seconds so I had to take a risk and assassinate him.

BTW vince if you give buck the rockets at the first foot battle on coastal highway he will take them to the hog and get in the passanger side. So he will effectivly be able to take out ghosts from the start of the warthog part.

That's part of what I do, actually. I grab Rockets and rocket ammo from a crate, dump that rocket launcher for myself to take later, grab the other one from the crate, destroy the turret platform, and swap the weapon to Buck.

Unfortunately, the Rocket Launcher doesn't seem nearly as effective against Ghosts as it was in Halo 3, seeing as Brutes are driving them instead of Grunts.

Has anyone else noticed those 10 Firefight skulls that show up on your ODST profile near the bottom of the page? There's two for scoring a number of points on each difficulty, one for playing the first time and another one. I'm assuming the points for Legendary are 2 million or above.

That is true, I'm not even used to it yet so I'm all like "Die already!"

Some Grunts use the Ghost though.

I forgot to mention, I'm having a much tougher time killing Armor Chieftains since you get knocked back about 10 feet whenever you get meleed, making assassinating them in a melee battle much more difficult. Anyone found any good ways to take them out yet?

So far the only one I encountered without a vehicle was the one in "Data Hive". Thus far, it has been as easy as running up to him, waiting for him to melee, circle around, and land the assassination, even without hitting him with a charged plasma bolt first.

With the Weapon Chieftains, it's the same ol' song and dance. Wait for them to lunge, side-step, turn around, and assassinate.

Thing is though, as the Chief you could let them hit you first and you wouldn't die so you could go around and go for the assassination. But now as an ODST, you can't get hit at all so if you even get touched, you fly away as if 10 fusion coils just blew up below you. It's kind of G if you ask me.

  • 09.28.2009 9:13 AM PDT

Weapon Chieftains are no problem for me, but I was referring to the ones on Firefight. It's kinda tough for me to run up to one when he's got a Fuel Rod Gun pointed in my direction.

Yeah, it's annoying how you rush him and jump to avoid his shots but he always hits you while you're in mid-air.

One thing I tried was to strafe back and forth while approaching him. It didn't seem like he could hit me.

  • 09.28.2009 9:30 AM PDT

More news. I decided to have a go or two at Data Hive because Coastal Highway is getting on my nerves, and of course, I ended up completing it, so now the only mission I have left on Mythic to finish is Coastal Highway.

Data Hive

And now up in my File Share is ONI Alpha Site. Locations of two [extra] Spartan Lasers and Rocket Launcher, need I say more?

ONI Alpha Site

The only part of Data Hive that's a hassle is the hive area. After dealing with the Chieftain near the end, I actually brought the hammer with me. A horde of Drones in a small area really isn't a problem when you have a Gravity Hammer.

Just be wary of the Drone Leader. He shields can take two Beam Rifle shots, and it took me three melees to kill him after that.

When the dust settles, you will learn what true terror is.

Tayari Plaza and Uplift Reserve down and on my fileshare. I practically mirrored your run through Reserve, Vincent, and my Tayari Plaza run was fairly similar to Aura's, at least up until you get past the sniper tower (guess whose films I watched for ideas!).

Has anyone tried Legendary Firefight yet? I tried two games on Crater and Crater at night (offline so it's not visible). It was well annoying, not because it was difficult, just the fact that this game has a couple of WTF stuff as well.

A Hunter took away 6 Lives from me on the second wave. It wasn't even close to me, I remember dying before it even did its animation, not to mention the fact that it wouldn't hit me at all even if it did the animation. So damn annoying.

Other than that, I got it all in a jar, only problem is that Crater is so tight so I have to retreat when 5 Jump packs attack me at once. Sucks, because every time I do that, I accidentally pick up the health kits. One of the reasons I do not like Crater anymore.

I was just gonna try Lost Platoon but I'll do that later. To be honest, getting a good score on Lost Platoon isn't even that impressive, only time consuming, the map is so big that Wraiths are your only concern.

I agree, whilst getting some friends through Endure again today I was the anti-Chieftain guy. I got loads of assassination medals. :-P
Anyway, if all goes according to plan, I think I'm starting Mythic at the weekend. A college schedule unfortunately leads to more homework than I had last year, meaning that I'm gonna be pressed for time on weekdays meaning less Mythic. :-(
Regardless, my mind is set and that means it'll be done one way or another.
And good luck Vincent, it looks like you're gonna be the 1st conqueror this time. :-)

I am not interested in joining your group.

I would like to propose a challenge, in addition to Mythic difficulty. I believe my challenge would be easier. Not sure though...

As I have not yet played Mythic difficulty, I don't know if the VISR mode still works with Blind on (someone please confirm this for me).

My proposal: SLNV
This is Solo Legendary No VISR. It would be a touch easier than Mythic, because no skull needs to be on. Scoring would though. Essentially, all one must do is complete the story line without using the VISR... at all.

Thread for SLNV

Another challenge, as mentioned in my thread for SLNV, is a solo run, on Legendary, while obtaining all the audio logs, without using your VISR.
