Ok, a couple of days ago I heard about a game called Flashpoint 2: Operation Dragon Rising. The plot for that game is boring, but the location wasn't. The campaign for that game is Open World combat on an actual island several miles across exactly as the real world island. So, what if Bungie made a DLC playlist where there were no maps. Just an entire continent on Reach where players can play for the coveant or UNSC and try to take over the continent. Real time lighting, day and night effects, no time limit. Just basically one giant match of non-stop team slayer with no score, and no affect on the Halo timeline. If anyone doesn't understand this then say that, and ill explain this a bit further okay.

And if you vote you must post, if enough people vote and comment, maybe a bungie employee will see this topic, and tell the other developers about this,

Its not luck, its the TwitchFactor.™

Kinda iffy on this one but it would be a good idea. There is one thing you should take into consideration is that lag would make this game type useless.

Considering how much bungie surprised the world with Halo 3, its pretty safe to say they can do things that seem impossible very well, and often.

So it would be like in Gears of War's multiplayer? Where one team are Gears, and the other team is the Locust. I've wanted it to be that way.

You're asking for an MMO PvP server. XD

  • 08.28.2009 12:52 PM PDT

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

This is exactly what his idea is proposing.

AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is certainly not an original idea on these forums, but a direction I would love to see Halo take.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I voted "bad", for one reason, it wouldn't work with how I see Halo 3 being. If Halo: Reach is like Halo 3, meaning good graphics, same play style, etc. Well then I can't see how thousands of players can play alltogether at once. Imagine if 200 thousand players went into that playlist. How insane would that be? I couldn't even imagine the lag.

Now, I have always loved the idea, I have always wanted a multi-player game where you can just go on this huge island or whatever and face off against other players. There would be like several hundered players, or like a thousand or something.

Kinda like fallout 3 without V.A.T.S with like hundereds of players.

I love the idea, I just don't think it could work.

I think it sounds like fun. I vote Good Idea.

It would probably have to be segmented.

Since Bungie is offering a new multiplayer beta for Reach, it's safe to assume that this will not be running on the Halo 3 engine. I suspect that Reach's engine will be almost entirely rewritten.

Downloadable Content is the key word. After Halo Reach, is released and were used to the graphics, maybe they would do this. It takes place before Halo CE remember, its gonna be totally different graphically.

ima save this space for the wolf...for the epic wolf....

I dunno about that. First the map your talking about...like a whole continent would cause people having to freeze, wait for a part of the map to load then go there. And if you went back if would happen again...for obvious reasons. Lag, and gameplay. Its pretty much what the Halo 3 Campaign does. At one point it waits a little bit then loads a certain part of the area, so it wont lag and the 360 wont over heat and shut off. So a map that big would cause lots of problems. Real time lighting wouldn't be so bad. No time limit would be bad, because people wouldn't find each other.

I meant when you start combat. It ends when one team takes over the whole area. Of course theres going to be a time limit, how else would you be able to have a hundread percent choice of when and where to play.

But would it be like Campaign? Like having vehicles scattered accros the map. I would absolutely love that.

The battle of Reach was the biggest battle of the war. Millions of Marines and aliens. BTW feel free to add anything else, if we want bungie to listen then we need to have more than one person pitching ideas in that playlist.

But unless Reach is totally downgraded this idea wouldn't work. I want a amazing looking game, better then Halo 3, better physics, etc.

If the game was to be on this huge huge map like a 7 km long island and a lot of players were to play on it, well the graphics would have to be down graded to not cause massive amounts of lag.

The resources to make this would diminish the overall game development. It would be too big for DLC as well. I'd say no.

i love the idea, but theres just a lot of work involved if its gonna happen

  • 08.28.2009 1:44 PM PDT

I like the idea, I've often thought about something similar myself.

It is a real concern though as to how it would work, it would require a lot of time and effort, and a whole lot of computing power that Bungie just might not have the time or abilty to put forth.

If it were to happen, it'd be cool thoug if there were say, a bunch of strongholds for either faction on the map, and when one side captured the other's, their frontline would advance, kind of like on Frontlines: Fuel of War. And, maybe at these strongholds everyone would spawn and they would be filled with vehicles and weapons and things of the sort.

Also, there might be outposts that act as miniature strongholds and spawning points.

If one area didn't have enough of it's controlling faction online, then it wouldn't be able to be attacked or to have attacks launched from it, in order to keep one side from just being sweeped by the other while they sleep. When it's all done and over with, and one faction controls the whole map it would reset, but there would be a counter, and stats system keeping track of each sides total wins and losses, and their stronghold captures and losses and etc.

I have played Frontlines, and thats not exactly what i invisoned, but the rest i agree with. Canonly the UNSC was mainly on the defence, so for the UNSC side you would have to survive and hold onto the continent. The coveant try to glass that continent, and as they take more and more territory the Coveant side glasses more of the land behind them. And to combat the suggestion that it wouldn't work due to lags, how about this idea. If you die, you don't spawn back for say half an hour, half an hour that you could do something else with. So more people could play, and there wouldn't be hundreads or thousands of gamers in the playlist fighting at anyone one time.
