First, uninstall Halo. Second, get ccleaner from ccleaner.com, and wipe out all traces of Halo via the 'issues' tab [old keys, ActiveX/COM files, registry settings, etc.].
Third, download either the NGO or DNA optimized drivers from Guru of 3D. Yes, I know many of you are shaking in your boots. Third party drivers!. I have used the NGO ones and I hear nothing but good from the DNA users, too. These are made by professional teams working to fix errors in video card drivers and squeeze out a bit more performance. And, it has been tested by the Guru himself...save the installer package to whichever one you choose [I'd go NGO] to your desktop.
Fourth, use ccleaner's 'tools' menu to uninstall your nVidia drivers. When it asks you to reboot, do it.
Fifth, use ccleaner's 'issues' tab to clean out any nVidia stuff.
Sixth, install the new drivers, then install Halo.
For my pc, running an X850XT, I got crap performance in Battlefield 2 with the new Catalyst drivers - switched to NGO and I get no frame rate jumps or loss of textures/effects.
Now, I suppose if you're too freaked out to use thrird-party drivers, you can always download an earlier version of the nVidia ones and substitute those into the process instead of the NGO/DNA ones.
