Subject: Can Natal be used to stop the selling of accounts in Halo Reach?

I was just thinking, you know how Natal supposedly can recognize faces and voices so it knows what account to sign into when you approach the 360?

Well, if someone creates an account, gets it to 50, then sells it, someone else would be using that account from then on right? They would have a different voice and face than the original user of the account, and Natal could recognize that. If you don't match up with the original creator of the account, Natal could prevent you from using that account at all or it could restrict your matchmaking experience to only the social playlists in Halo Reach to prevent the ranking system from getting skewed by having 50's who aren't at 50 strength playing.

This would also discourage social engineering to steal accounts if you can't make marketplace transactions if you don't match up with the voice print and the face print of the original account creator.

Any thoughts? Its slightly off the top of my head, and it's early in the morning, so this might not make sense.

maybe if natal was in EVERY xbox. Other than that the idea is flawed, good, but flawed.

One of the first 20 to beat Halo 3 on Mythic (Solo Legendary All Skulls On), in the later half I'm guessing
I notice time that light has reflection for, like the rainy magic of nobody else on a lovely day.

Two problems. Just don't buy natal, and also, I'm assuming there is a lock for natal that you can activate or deactivate. If you were selling an account, I'd imagine you'd make it generally accessible. Interesting thought, though.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

I saw you posted this idea in another thread. I like that it's an actual thread now. Besides selling accounts, couldn't it also prevent the stealing of accounts?

  • 08.29.2009 11:09 AM PDT

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Like other people have said, this idea is flawed. Also if I wanted 2-3 accounts would NATAL stop me? I mean, this idea is good, but if you couldn't bypass it, then NATAL would be just another boundary in gaming.

I like the idea of "Unstealable accounts". That may work. Say you buy NATAL, you can lock your account to your facial recognition. If you want to recover your account on someone else's system, they have to have NATAL or you will first have to unlock your account from your system.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Not multiple accounts, selling accounts.

Multiple accounts is not against the rules, selling accounts is.

ima save this space for the wolf...for the epic wolf....

Why do you care about people selling/buying accounts?

Why do you care about people selling/buying accounts?

It doesn't matter if we don't care too much, but Microsoft does.

You can't sell / buy accounts according to their TOS. First because it can easily turn into a scam, second because they don't want people making money off their service without their permission.

As I mentioned in the OP, it also would stop the effectiveness of social engineering to "hack" accounts.

I thought I'd just throw out a helpful idea. If it prevents some guy stealing from gullible idiots or stops them from taking their credit card on a joyride, I'd say its a good and just cause.

Voice and face can change, -blam!- THIS IDEA!

Can they change overnight to the point where it can't recognize you anymore?

I'm by no means an expert on face or voice recognition technologies but I'm assuming they can accomidate for puberty. So unless you get into a horrific car accident (in which case I doubt that playing videogames will be the first thing on your mind) or unless you are inhaling helium from baloons for lols (which is bad for you anyways because the sealent inside the baloon gets into your lungs), it shouldn't be a problem.

Question, what If I get burned in a fire and my face and the inside of my mouth are severely disfigured? How will I play the Xbox and Xbox Live I purchased?

I have a feeling that most of the account sellers are more creatures of convenience than anything else, and actual safeguards should cut down on this practice.

Not worth making silly assumptions like that. They have a valid point, you can't force people use Natal if they don't want to buy it, and you could always unplug it. It would work if it were, say, built into a next-gen xbox, but it still has merit for account protection.

There are already a lot of ways for you to protect your account. Make a good password, set recovery questions, don't tell anyone your email used for your windows live id, don't give out information like an idiot, change your passwords frequently. Its your fault if you get hacked. There is to large of a potential for this feature to block innocent users out of their account. Stopping something that isn't a big problem by punishing the innocent isn't worth it.

It is an interesting idea, don't get me wrong, but I am sure that NATAL allows people to change the face of their profile, or use multiple faces.

The easiest way to stop people from selling or hacking accounts is to just make everything available to everyone (IE, Recon). There is also the matter of rank. I hate to bring CoD4 into this but, they have a really good ranking system. Everyone goes up and can achieve the same rank, but their true-skill rank is hidden. So people can no longer say "I am a 50!"

That's like saying, "it's your fault for getting shot." You can't absolutely protect your account from hackers. Some people have all those safeguards, yet they still get hacked.

Also, how are we punishing the innocent?

Please show me someone who's account was hacked without phishing after the calling MS and tricking them was stopped. They can't even find out your windows live ID email unless you tell them. How can you hack someone if you don't even have their email? Don't give ANY information out.

Innocent people could get punished by getting locked out of their own account by a ridiculous security feature. It will happen to at least one person who didn't do anything wrong if this were implemented.

I think you should read this. Nothing, and I mean nothing is unhackable. Sure using Natal in this feature won't be perfect, but it sure is better than our current system. It too won't be unhackable, but it'll make it that much harder to break.

Also, maybe you could program a passpicture as an account recovery question. All you do is program a picture of you into the system, and then when you want to recover your account, just hold up that picture to the camera (note: only that picture will work).
