What if they were underground in some giant Forunner holding thing like on the first Halo?
except reach is not halo.
it's a human fortress planet, not a forerunner lab or something....
you see, the very first time humans encountered the floods was during halo wars. but since the SoF is missing, nobody knew.
so, officially, the first real known contact was on the first halo.... and that takes place after reach
Castle base was LITERALLY on top of a Forerunner building with a very valuable artefact inside, and they never discovered it. The mere fact that this structure was here, buried deep underground, sealed so that only humans could open it, suggests something far more sinister than a crystal which might have a shard of a Rampant AI in it. And we never even saw this entire structure...
I know... but as you said, the forerunner building was never discovered. so let's assume there were floods in that building... so what? since it's never been discovered anyway, it doesn't change the fact humans didn't discover the floods before HCE.
Yes, but...it would be a very, VERY boring game if it followed the book. We're almost definitely NOT following the group of spartans shown, because their journey on reach is really not that interesting. it's like, "steal wraith, steal banshee, throw nuke, run away, hide in base, get stuck in pit w/ loads of covenant who won't even attack us, run away".
We've only seen a tiny fraction of the events that may have happened on Reach.
