Is it not another derogatory word that is used to hurt someone else. I'm not -blam!- but i know some people who are, (didn't know until they told me) and they are really cool (One of the girls is also hot) Why doesn't bungie block the word -blam!-? After all the only context it is used in these forums in is derogatory. And yes i know that girls aren't -blam!- they are... well you know what they are but it means the same thing.

Because it's usually not derogatory. Like in this case. How could you write this post if "-blam!-" was in the profanity filter? Mostly, the only people who would take offense to being called "-blam!-" are infact, hetero-blam!-. (See? Sometimes the filter is a little too pro-active.)

Excluding commonly used words because someone might use it in a derogatory fashion doesn't make much sense to me. Slurs and such directed at -blam!- people are fitered though.

So... then why is homo-blam!- blammed out, and yet -blam!- isn't?

On this forum, all I read is "Well that's -blam!-, the cheater was -blam!-, the combo is -blam!-, Your so -blam!-, what a -blam!-..."

If anything, homo-blam!- shouldn't be blammed, and -blam!- should.

It's the "S e x ual" part that is filtered out. EG: Hetero-blam!-, Homo-blam!-, Halo-blam!-.

Yes, but I can think of many more instances of the word "-blam!-" being used derogativley then I can for the word "s exual."

I agree. I have yet to hear -blam!- used correctly and or nicely on these forums so why not get rid of it?

I would like to hear from a moderator or someone with power over the site give an explanation.

As many have said, '-blam!-' is not always a bad word. If it's referring to someone who is attracted to members of their own gender, it's fine. But if it's used like "Well that's just -blam!-", then yes, blamming it out may be appropriate.

Note: There are worse words, i.e. certain four-letter words...

I've heard homo-blam!- and -blam!- and all kinds of what once were politically correct terms perverted until they are no longer politically correct. At this pace, we'll probably need a new alphabet to keep up with all the new politically correct terminology by the year 2020.

On the same principle, mods - if you go through with this, you should blam! out the use of the word retarded. It's only used in a derogatory fashion in these forums and I happen to know a lot of good-hearted people who are retarded.

My opinion - enough is enough.

is using the word -blam!- really getting on your nerves THAT bad? I mean really! Have you played XBL lately? We should all be asking bungie to put a filter online rather than on the forums!

They word -blam!- shouldn't be censored.

People can be -blam!- and be happy, people can be -blam!- as a preference for romance.

It's only offensive when used in a derogatory way.

A lot of things are only offensive when used in a derogatory way.

Wow, this thread isn't a very -blam!- thread now is it? People seem so angry about such a small word.

We already explained this in a previous thread. Any word can be offensive if used in the correct manor.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

As George Carlin put it -- words can be fine in one context and awful in another.

Prick your Finger - Fine
Finger your Prick - Not so good.

Same 3 words, but one is a lot more offensive than the other!

Why use the word? if someone's happy you can say they're -blam!-. but if they're -blam!--blam!-, well there's nothing wrong with that. what i do have a problem with is when people use it in offensive terms.

- now see how the filter's been used here? i think that's wrong. the filter should work with full words rather than sections.
