Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

Halo CE for me will always be my most prized game. It had an invisible element to it. A grace that I can't put my finger on. I still love it more than 2 or 3. It had an amazing and one of a kind campaign, an epic story, as well as cool characters.

But thats not it. Theres still something I can't put my finger on. What made Halo CE amazing to you?

-Enemies were fearsome and mysterious, and you only knew they wanted to kill you.
-Gameplay was solid and tactical, with consequences of getting shot.
-All weapons had a purpose and niche that they dominated in.
-Vehicles were balanced.
-You had a fair chance to kill someone if you were a decent player.
-Atmosphere.
-Music.
-"Feel".

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

For me it was the first console shooter that I played that actually brought the smooth feel of a PC shooter (sorry, I hated Golden Eye). The tight gameplay, integration of vehicles, fantastic environments, great scripting and music, and the challenging enemies had me from the start and kept me for a long time.

Add to that a MP component that actually rewarded those who had aim, and took the time to learn how to use every weapon. Halo was pretty much the only xbox game I played for a long time, and we used to LAN nearly every weekend with at least 10-16 people. It got to the point where we even held a large tournament down here, with about 100 in attendance (it was big for us, were were still in highschool, with no sponsor or money from parents!)

Halo was one of those games that did everything right. It's always funny to hear people criticise it's graphics (it's nearly a decade old for crying out loud) and it's recycling of levels. Considering that without Halo the xbox would more than likely have gone the way of the Dreamcast, I think it's safe to say that it is most likely one of the most impactful games in the last 15 years, certainly the most in it's genre for the last two console generations.

It was a number of things. It was original, it had real depth, and there were no quick time events. Halo 2 was almost as good and it kept up with the depth, but it wasn't original. And Halo 3 makes me want to rip out toe nails and shove them into my eye sockets it so bad compared to Halo 1. It was just better in so many different ways.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Campaign, that feeling of seeing Halo arch above you. Music, pretty much everything, Halo is one of the closest game out that are almost a perfect game.

Beatles records are still ridiculously great, even after 40 years. I've wondered what it must have been like to hear them back when they were first released.
I think I can understand the feeling somewhat.
CE was so far ahead of the norm in so many ways, it still hasn't been eclipsed. A lot of games have borrowed elements but, none of them have unseated it as the best overall gaming experience.

The two weapon system made for incredibly instinctive gameplay.
I think CE was deceptively simple compared to the others.

somewhere in the heavens...they are waiting. I love the Marathon Trilogy.
Halo CE will always be the best game in the Halo franchise. What a perfect game.
(Proud LONGTIME owner of the PC and Xbox versions of Halo CE)

The flood were actually scary, and everything was simple. No dual-weilding, hijacking, and all that other stuff.

A lot of The Beatles' records were digitally remastered.

Here's to hoping someone does the same with this game at some point in the future.

Number 3, dahuterschuter, FTW.
Had a lone Hunter & saw a fallen shade next to a wall. Thought, 'I'll run between them and he'll be stuck...' To my surprise, the Hunter bumped into it a couple of times, then backed away and sought another route. I literally started yelling in an excitement that made my wife think I was even crazier than she'd accepted. Comparing that to the wall running Brutes of H-2, is easy to see how folks could crown CE.
