Subject: Yay or Nay to Bots being in Halo Reach?

BowerJynn

We all know that Gears of War 2 has the ability to put Bots, which are AIs, in places of real people if they decide to quit, or if you just wanted to have a no-pressure bot match with you and your friends. Also they give you the capability to play matchmaking games offline.

The Question is: Should Halo Reach Multiplayer have Bots to substitute for people quitting or not?

no for bots a la gears of wars.

yes to AI like grunts/jackals/hunters/elites.

Bot would not work in Halo at all. It works in Gears of War because the bot could go 1-10 and it would have a positive effect for the team with the bot. This is due to the fact that GoW is based off of rounds; you wipe out the enemy team, and you gain a point. technically if the bot shoots 1 bullet at the enemy each round, it is more beneficial than it is to have nobody in that slot. In Halo, every kill effects the Team Slayer outcome. Having a bot running in w/o strategy and dying constantly will actually have a more negative effect than having a 3 vs 4 would. And for objective gametypes it could also have a negative effect. Having a bot walk the flag to your base instead of a person picking it up and then dropping it potentially doubles the time that it takes to score.

-edit- A custom game only option would be fine though.

I would like bots but I don't want them to fill in for players who leave. Just make them an option to fill up custom games.

get out of here stalker

Custom games and a firefight mode? Yes.
Matchmaking? No.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

yes.

I would say yes, but only for a match with one person. If someone doesn't have Xbox Live, this can help. Also, Firefight.

No matter how many times I forget about this place, I always get dragged back.

I'm more than okay with that.

I say yes, and this is how they could work. Give us a sliding difficulty scale from 1-50. Depending on how high the bot's difficulty is, it would play better or worse.

How could this work in MM? Well, say a level 32 player quits out of a match. A Level 32 BOT would replace this player, and would play through the rest of the game.

Bungie should definetly put bots into reach!
Offline multiplayer + bots = Epic win.

I love the poeple saying no, and not thinking about what they are saying.

Yes, to bots being in Halo: Reach.

Anyway to customize anything is a plus.

yes and no. id like to see it but then again id like to see the space that would be used on the disc for that be put to better use like longer campaign or more multiplayer junk

  • 08.30.2009 4:20 PM PDT

bots would be cool but would they work on custom maps? I just hope they have firefight in Reach.

  • 08.30.2009 4:31 PM PDT

The bots wouldnt be used online in matchmaking, for bandwidth reasons. But as an option for custom games (and heck, some crazy double exp weekends or as an interesting expless playlist) bots would be welcome. There's now downside to them, besides the required development time in the game's schedule. They're perfect for those who do not have xbox live and/or buddies to play with.

You mean to tell me you've never sat there a lonely night in custom games and wished you had some bots to mess around with?

No. Imagine Matchmaking with bots, just Cheap kills for the other team, AI cant detect camping, or special strategies needed for some maps.

So no.

Customs game + bots = Yay

I think they would be cool for custom games, but not for competitive multiplayer.

Yeah, my personal opinion is to just have them for customs and offline multiplayer only

i love how gears of war uses bots to replace people that left a match. hey, if gears can make amazing bots, halo can do it better. it would be a great addition to the game

Read about my gaming here.

Gears of War:
No vehicles in multiplayer
No Jumping
Maps not too complex

My guess is that it's easier making bots if a game got less components to worry about.

Bots use waypoints to navigate the maps, and you learn these waypoints rather quick if you play against them, you learn their strategies, if they don't come one path, they will most likely come the other, so matchmaking bots would be more in the way than help, or you would constantly have to watch their back and help them, negating any other strategy you could think of that could win the game, and so on.

Sure, it would be fun to mess around in the beginning with the bots. But let's face it, you wouldn't be able to play forged maps with them and you wouldn't be able to play most of your own custom ruled games. Well, you could, but the room the programming for the bots would take on the disc would probably be alot, and that could in turn, prevent other features from being in the game.

So no, I wouldn't like bots, I'd like to see the money, time and storage space equal to efficient bots, used on something else.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net
