I know people are going to hate me for suggesting this, but I really hope we get some space combat.
Dead Space esque ones? Count me in completely.

Any game that can pull off combat in the silent vacuum of space, leaving nothing but the thumps from your speaker's base, is an instant win in my book. Not to mention I think we're all familiar with a previous epic space moment involving the Chief and a Covenant bomb. Add to that the fact that part of the Spartan involvement at Reach was in space, and you have the perfect opportunity to create a vast scale combat setting.

This is an Idea i've had myself, and if done right it could be awesome.
Also its another reason for Civilian Warthogs, maybe even drivable Dump Trucks!!!

sounds kool, i guess it wouldnt be bad cause a lot of games are leaning into that direction.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I've been thinking more about having an open world for Reach. I honestly don't think it could work on a larger game than ODST. I am going to have to play through ODST first in order to make a solid decession on wether Open world style gameplay would suit Reach.
And this is just an observation but the ODST banner has all the playable ODST's One is the primary Hero (who I assume you play as the most), the Rookie. What if Reach works in the same way. You play as one of the Spartans to start the game and search for your squad. This is Reach, so perhapse they are all dead ah, I mean MIA. And you as Spartan 259, who apparently lands after Reach gets glassed, has to find them. Just a thought.
Edit: this is my last post before heading off for my first day of school, I love college, only one class today : )

I think you need to think outside the box a little. Do you really think the Halo: Reach plot would be basically the same ODST story, but with spartans? An open world game would work with 1,000's of plots and storylines.

Signatures are for squares.

Reach was completely glassed (Save for Castle Base) within an hour of the battle.

How can you make an open world map with that.

Tank beats everything!!!

I prefer linear....

So the game is going to be an hour long...sounds awesome.

I'm pretty sure bungie can make it work.

I'm hoping for an Oblivion with Guns. Yup with Boats, Time Travel, and Combat Knives. I'm being a bit ridiculous.

on a more serious note, if ODST's open world game play works and they can implement it in Reach, I think they should go ahead and try it.

Umm...."Fallout 3?"

Marathon Man

they acually had something like that in halo:combat evolved, remember the second mission where you ride around in a warhog and rescue marines. you could acually chose in what order you wanted to do the areas, so it wouldnt be that weird if they expanded on the open-world concept.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Who said the game is just about the Fall of Reach? It's probably just going to be used for the begining/end of the game, hopefully it will span the entire Spartan II Career. Maybe we'll even see Sigma Octas IV. (I think that's it).

But there is NO way Bungie can pull a 12 hour game out of a 1 hour battle. Even though the spartans spent days in castlebase, most of the time was spent defending the base.

Warning: You may find that my, or someone else's opinion does not comply with yours. Side effects of disagreement may include (but are not limited to): flaming, irrational behavior, broken keyboards, and/or nervous sweats. If you experience any of these symptoms refrain from communicating with others until the symptoms have subsided.

I just want more than one way to complete a mission. (Not completely linear.) So playing through the second time you can say, "Hey, I didn't notice that path last time, let's try taking that way."

I think they need to make a Halo MMO. I mean come on, it would be kick ass.

Stay away from game development.

That mentality is EVERYTHING that's wrong with the gaing world today. Along with "I prefer gray"

Team Prodigy (5-4)
Prodigy Doubles (3-0)

An open world Halo would be the absolute -blam!-. Just imagine invading enemy bases, rescue missions, recon missions, assassination missions. They just need to make sure that if they make it an open world game, that it is open in many aspects. You should be able to pick the missions you go on, who you can take with you, it would need some customization, etc. Of course I'm sure they'll have all this, what would the point be in having an open world without the decision making that usually goes along with those types of games. Integrating the Halo gameplay style with an open world is a genius idea, but it needs to be done right.

If it takes place in multiple locations like you are assuming, it could still have an open world concept sort of like Mass Effect. Maybe where the main base is your ship, and choose areas to go to.

To me, it sounds like sticking to the exact canon of the books does not sound like great gameplay to me anyways.

What about a Campaign where you get to roam around a large chunk of Reach? Maybe a city with its environs and the famous military bases? Four player slots, accompanied by a player or CPU. Then you move around through a semi-linear main campaign with a few side missions. It would be like a persistant firefight, Covenant would be everywhere. Getting somewhere wouldn't be a cruise in a Hog, but rather a desperate struggle.
