well lets just hope they can find someway of making the graphics really good, and can be handled by the xbox
*cough cough* unreal engine 3 *cough*
Unreal 3 Engine is great for single player, but it's got some of the worst online host advantage currently on consoles.
If Bungie could set up a way to get dedicated servers like Section 8, then it might work, but if you thought host advantage was bad in H3, go play most every game that runs on the unreal 3 engine.
I"ll assume you obviously know that an engine has NO impact AT ALL on the multiplayer or host advantage.
the proof?
all halo games use the same engine (each is heavily modded and improved)... and halo CE had a horrible host advantage (as "good" as in gears of wars) ... while halo 2 and halo 3 have decent hosting capacities.
plus, unreal tournament 3 doesn't have that huge host advantage you're talking about...
Well I would certainly hope the engine has some impact on the multiplayer, seeing as it's a part of it. And it does have an impact on the host connection, as it's coded in to allow people to host and generally start their own games on it.
Unless you're talking about the Halo:CE PC version for multiplayer, which isn't in itself accurate as you can easily connect to someone with a 56k as host whereas XBL requires a broadband connection and selects the fastest connection for host on Halo 2/3, I don't know how you could accurately compare multiplay with Halo 2/3. (Excluding Xbox Connect, which seemed to have a horrible connection no matter what you do)
There's a reason host advantage is so consistent on the engine, be you playing RB6:V, UT3, GOW1/2, Section 8, everything. I've worked on every publicly released version of the Unreal engines, and am a big fan of it's easy to use interface (probably why devs like it so much) but while the Unreal 3 engine is amazing technically, multiplayer almost seems like a step back from the Unreal 1 and 2 engines. And yes, Unreal Tournament 3 does have the host advantage I'm talking about, the difference between Section 8 and it, and most games is you can actually access dedicated servers on the 360.
