Okay, first off. I was called a troll for making a thread... to ask. a. question.
Whoever calls someone a troll for just -blam!- asking a questions can go shove a pitchfork up their ass!
Ok, now that's over i'd like to get back on topic.
I thought that it would be cool if bungie made a halo game centered around the covenant. You'd probably play as an elite, as that seems best. It would have slight rpg elements, like getting upgraded armor and rising up in military ranks and stuff. You'd start off in a big "open-world" covenant ship and go around doing errands/missions just like in ODST except it's not a flashback. Or something along the lines of that. After every mission you have a flash back which is playable but mainly there is no fighting. You just uncover your past e.c.t.
Or something like that.
Well that's my idea. Now i wanna hear yours. What parts of halo would you like to venture?

DISCLAIMER!!!
This idea is purely mine, and reflects what I would like to see as a halo game. You may disagree to some elements of this idea, however that does not mean you can go around saying it's a *blamming* stupid idea. if you dislike my idea, please tell me why in a sensible and suitable manner. Please keep this topic clean

That is a good idea. Halo 2 didn't do this all of the way.

  • 08.31.2009 2:35 PM PDT

Dude wheres my warthog?

they need to have a game that is like OP's idea, but during the middle the covenant undergoes some sort of event and you rise as one of the arbiters, gameplay makes a dramatic twist like the taming of the hunters or maybe even stuff on sanghelios.

Going along the lines of an RPG type game, here is my idea.

Assuming we find out a bit more about the Forerunners (we will with a trilogy of books coming), I propose a game centered around them.

The Forerunners were/are extremely powerful and had a far superior grasp of science and technology than humanity or the Covenant. Assuming they are far more advanced than humanity, it would be safe to say that their biotechnology would have progressed to unprecedented levels.

Maybe an RPG game as a Forerunner could work like this: You are a Forerunner, you make progress through society/ rise through the ranks and whatnot. As you do, you can receive biomedical upgrades/biotechnological upgrades, such as increased strength, speed, maybe advanced biological computer systems integrated with your body. The nature of these enhancements might seem so advanced to humanity that they would seem to be "magical powers".

That's just a basic premise, haven't really thought of mechanics or a story.

Thank you for your intelligent and helpful response. Could you possibly shed light on why it is a bad idea/ why I am an idiot?

That's a good idea but i think it would be better playing as a precursor due to the fact that they were tier 0.

Nice call XD

Really? I've never played mass effect. I just thought that it would be cool to go through ranks so you have something to strive for, some reason to explore and fight more. Instead of purely continuing for story sake.

You seem to have misunderstood me. The flashbacks would be the "non" fighting sections of the game. Sort of like an interactive cutscene where you control the character a bit. But there would be lots of fights you could become part of. but before that you would be out of the "hearing circle" so before applying for the military you have to find out what war is about to happen. You do that by questioning people. then you join the military after a few errands for sangheili and other species before you get in the military.

But basically you have to use word of mouth to find out what wars you can join and when they're happening. Eventually you will be told directly when you're a high enough rank.
So basically you can miss a war if you don't explore and talk with people.

Seems a little complex? Yeah sorry about that.

Trolls are insecure about their own pathetic lives that they act cool behind a keyboard.
Go back to being a failure kid.

Sounds like 'Mass Effect'.
And that sounds like a 'lawsuit.'

Elites beat EVERYTHING.

The game could centre between Halo's 2-3, with the Elites fighting with the Brutes and Flood. I think there's a lot of room for an epic storyline there.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Sounds good, but how about your hub world isn't a Covenant ship, it's High Charity. You get to visit such places like the Step of Silence, which was beautiful in Halo 2.

You get to upgrade your Covenant ship, and more importantly, get stealth missions in Seraphs. A Halo RPG like this would be awesome, with high customization focus and the "action/consequence" thing.

I wasn't expecting much when I first looked at this topic, but I guess this is probably the top idea I'd like to see through.
Come on 343 Industries... Give us something we want!

Wow, thanks. I didn't expect it to get 11 replies.
Action/Consequence seems a litttle TOO Mass Effect. Though i've never played it, i know it's about action/consequence.

But i see it that military ranks, armor upgrades and just being able to earn bigger ships is both revolutionary and necessary to the halo universe.
And i've heard of 343 industries. Who the f^%$ are they?
I dun want no impostors taking over my sweet halo.

I meant high charity... :P
But you would pretty much play within the timelines of the most important battles. And minor ones too. And you could do errands for friends who helped you out and stuff.
And you could even teach edumacation! :P
Just kidding bout the last part.
But it would be cool if you were in briefing and you were a bit agitated, the briefer looks at you and ask: "Recruit, what's wrong!"
In like a semi-angered voice.
I would love to have a shipmaster or fleetmaster hate me. Only to save his life and gain his trust.
Awesome!!!

Hey man thats preatty damn good idea about halo. It would prbably help out bungie make the halo serise more popular. And for thoes kids who like being the bad guy would love to be an elite. NIce IDea!!

Wow, thanks guys.

Like the idea for two seperate sides.
Thing is it would probably take too long as the covenant campaign would be bigger than both Halo 3 and ODST.
So, they could just add UNSC campaign as add ons. Or they could do 4 player co-op campaign where you could choose which side you wanna be on.
UNSC or Covenant.
You would play through the same battles but on different sides with different objectives.
Sound good?
Come on guys, so far you've all liked this idea, let's try make it happen!

*sighs*
Halo pretty much influenced most sci-fi shooters anyway, so how can people bag Halo about not being original.
(I know that what I'M saying isn't original, just some people DO bag Halo about originality)

Tank beats everything!!!

I like the covenant idea but i personally dont like free roam or rpg (well i dont like rpg that much but there are exceptions)

But yea sounds alright

@Disturbed

It would be exactly like ODST.

I just had another idea. What if at random the unsc or maybe heretics of the covenant would attack the station whilst you were roaming around in the main "Hub"
It would add a cool sense of unnease.

They had. Look for Halo shorts directed by Neil Blomkamp on YouTube. They had the potential to make a movie, heck they had the best Halo director you could as k for. But now they've hired some -blam!- director who directed "The Mummy" series which is generally known for it's -blam!-iness, lame camera angles, no emphasis on scenes... e.c.t.

Did i mention they should hire Neil Blomkamp?

Well they should!

And they should stop reusing Reach and go for Ghosts of Onyx. That actually has some mystery to it. Then make a sequel to Ghost of Onyx, then they can make Reach.

I'm just sick of them trying to squeeze out all our money by reusing the same -blam!- storyline over 10 times. I think we know everything about Reach now. Give us something new, both game-wise and story-wise, or movie-wise. Whatever just give us a good covenant game like most people here agree on and give us ghost of onyx to either play or watch.

Did i mention Neil Blomkamp is about the only person in the world that can capture Halo amazingly?
Well, he can!
