Subject: Halo: Reach will be on at least 2 discs- a theory

Everyone is expectiing Halo: Reach to be a mindblowing experience, one upping all of Bungie's previous entries in the Halo series(as do I).

I'm sure most of you (If you've been paying attention) have heard all the buzz (rumors) around Reach's new "AAA" engine. The game is expected to be cutting edge in graphics, gameplay, and scale.

Halo 3 has so far been the most full featured Halo game to date. With Forge, Saved Films, Theater modes, 4 co-op campaign, and matchmaking with 11(i think) maps. Bungie even mentioned that a Firefight-like mode hit the cutting room floor due to space issues.

If Halo: Reach is to truly surpass Halo 3 in functionality, graphics, and content, these things would need to happen: A more advanced Forge mode would be added(maybe even a rudimentary map editor), More functionality with Saved Films and Theater modes (a la uncharted 2- look up uncharted 2 cinema mode), and some people are suggesting that Reach must have a survival type mode.

There is no way that all of this could fit on one DVD-9 disc. I think the route Bungie will take is to have one disc for campaign, co-op, and survival mode if there is one, and another disc for matchmaking (having saved films, and theater mode overlap).

That would be a good idea, then the ability to Dl the original maps just for those whos discs get scratched.
I would love to see more than one disk, so many features to explore...

It could be, but we just dont know

I guess I'm making the assumption that Bungie isn't okay with making a reiterated version of their last game with no new/improved features.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

Can you give me some evidence as to why these features can't fit on one disk?

We aren't saying they can't but it would be nice that they added so many features and have beautiful graphics that it had to have 2-disks.You can do a great many things with 2 disks and it would be nice if Reach had to do something like that.

I will be honest with you, I am not a programmer or even anything close, so no, I don't really know how much space specific things take up.

Basically I am assuming that the Reach campaign will take up more space than Halo 3's. I think that is a fair assumption, (I'm not saying it will be 2 or 3 times the size, just bigger).

I also did not say both discs would be filled. I highly doubt the ODST disc is full. (campaign is shorter than halo 3 and firefight is basically modified campaign missions.) So the campaign, firefight, and 24 multiplayer maps could not fit on one dvd 9. If they could have, I'm sure Bungie would have squeezed it all onto one disc. But I truly believe they are interested in giving us the most value possible. I just feel like, taking the step forward toward cutting edge graphics(halo 3's were nice but nothing special) and more/better features it would be natural to move to multiple discs.

Also other games are using this approach. Rage will be on 3 or 4 discs (one bluray for ps3) final fantasy xiii will be on at least 3. Idk its just a hunch, like i said im not an expert

i think its been stated somewhere that the halo 3: ODST campaign is a little bit longer than the halo 3 campaign. but that could just have been my imagination.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Yeah, 2 discs sounds like a good idea. Multi-player/Forge and then Co-op/Firefight (possibly)/Extras?

Yar-har!

That's not really a theory, but more of an idea.

Not a bad idea though. It sounds like it would work if they ran out of space on one disc that's up to the brim with content.

It may not be longer but its a bigger size because its a sandbox game.
