I used to have a topic of listing the names of problematic players, but now i'm starting a list of the cd key hashes of these players. just post the cd key hash , name of the player, and reason for posting. You can find the cd key hash when you ban a player from your server. Then look at your banned.txt file to find the info. I'm hoping that hosts will take the info from these posts and add it to their banned.txt files so that games can retain some sanity.

please post like this:
name; cd key hash; reason

I would like to thank Mr B for the inspiration of this idea, because i think he has tried to do something similar.

update: a similar section is now up and running on my clan website.

i dont think punj has moved btw tbh. besides didnt he only appear on the eu bungie servers? theyve been down for a while now as far as i know. and if you wanted rid of punj, wouldnt he have to be on a server where you could ban him? if he does only go on the bungie servers then you cant view his info. thats up to bungie and we all know what that would be like.

Is it legal to post the CD-Key?

somebody correct me if i'm wrong

the cd key hash is not the persons actual cd key that they need to install. It is a heximal value that is used to identify a client on a server. I don't see Mr B arrested or anything, so i guess it's legal.

I think that's right... but I still think it's a little....shady is the right word, but it's the first word that comes to mind.

I would posit the following question, though - Just what exactly are you trying to accomplish by doing this?

I hope to accomplish a world where halo pc games were never ruined by jerks that purposely piss people off. I know that it's a longshot, but i thought this might help a little bit by informing hosts of these jerks and giving them the info to put in their banned.txt files.

Im not sure asking the general forum public for CD hashes is a good idea tho. Some bumtard with his own nubbed server might dislike a perfectly good player and post his cd hash for people to ban.

that is why i am asking for people to post the reason for banning this person.

Dude - start a website - "Halo Police" :P - and publish the hashes [if it is in fact legal] and send them to major servers. I'd put them on my ban list.

However, I agree with Inspire, it is a bit shady.

Good - now don't take this the wrong way - I'm just trying to think this through with you....

How does what you're doing now work to accomplish that goal?

Too many jerks in halo pc to list them all. There is no point in this there will always be jerks in halo pc no matter what you do.

Is this as big a problem as you make it seem? Even if it is, will the cure be worse than the disease?

Once in a while, I see deliberate TKing, usually over a weapon, or in response to someone accidentally killing a team mate.

Most deliberate TKers who don't seem to have a "reason," (mentioned above), usually do so because they're bored and leave soon after they start.

The problem I forsee is people posting the ID of players they get beaten by or who annoy them. The computer gives you their ID, but the poster gives you the "reason" and they can lie. I was once banned when I was an inch from scoring in CTF! No TKing involved.

I was also banned for not playing up to the standards of the host when I was a total noob. How do you encourage new players in a fading game if you ban them?

Are you going to have arbitrators to investigate and settle disputes? You'll spend more time doing that than playing in a "perfect" Halo world.

If you continue with this, the person posting the complaint should have to give you his ID number. If his posts get enough challenges you should ban him.

i'm assuming you all think this is a pointless thing to do. I'll stop if you think it won't help anything at all. I'll remove the person in my first post.

Considering the recent caliber of the threads in this forum, I say keep it, Mr MA5B - I don't think it's a bad idea, it just doesn't feel right to me. I would say - and this is my honest, personal, opinion, that your idea needs its own website - link to it in your sig. I don't know what Bungie thinks of this and how they'd feel about you using the boards, but look at what's happening already - this isn't a thread listing the bad players on HPC - this is a thread defending your cause now. I'm sorry if I contributed to this thread's hijacking, but I honestly just wanted to know...
