Custom content and File-Sharing is one of the things that make Halo 3 great, and seeing that it even is in ODST I doubt Bungie will abadon it in Halo: Reach.

Even though Halo 3's file sharing is great, there is one major flaw: Theft.
It is by far too easy to 'steal' files by editing something thus making you the author of said file.

A fix for that would be to add an option: Lock file. It would basicly make it imossible for someone else to edit your file, may it be description, name or forge. Another thing coud be 'static author'. If this option is enabled you could still edit the file but it doesn't change the author. Of course, to prevent somebody from releasing a canvas edition of a map with 'static author' there should be some sort of sign which displays what option is enabled.

Any comments?

We should know better, because we are better.

That is a great idea! With that enabled we dont have to worry about theft of maps or games therefore some one cant take credit for our work.

Tank beats everything!!!

I agree i dont steal maps but i saw my mate steal some of predators screenshots (you know predator right) for eg where it say special thanks to example111 he changed example111 to his gamertag

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

I hardly ever use Forge or make films, but this just makes sense. If you don't want someone to edit your work or steal it and call it their own.

Another good option may be to have the original creators name always locked to their work. That way it someone edits it, it would still give credit to the original maker.

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

Have "created by X" unchangeable, and this can only be put in when you have created a map directly from Bungie's built-in.

Remember,
It is easy to be male
it is another thing to be a man.

I think that this is a great idea. Personally i haven't had any trouble with content piracy because i don't use it very much. But for those who do and have had this problem will really support this.

φ

A solution to author locks in regaurds to canvases- in forge have a delete all option. Or have canvas variants ship with the game. Wouldn't be that hard to implement I'd imagine.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

It's better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.

This is a grand idea. I can't count how many times I've heard of my maps being stolen. I ended up taking them off my fileshare because others were taking credit for building them. I don't care if you play them, that is what the purpose of making them is, but don't say you built my map.

Warning: You may find that my, or someone else's opinion does not comply with yours. Side effects of disagreement may include (but are not limited to): flaming, irrational behavior, broken keyboards, and/or nervous sweats. If you experience any of these symptoms refrain from communicating with others until the symptoms have subsided.

Yeah I thought of something like this also, you should be able to lock the map. But when you make it so the author sticks, there should be an editor below the author. That would make it so you can download a map, make it better, and then still get some credit for it.

Over all this would work great!

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

:) Nice way of thinking!

fixed by having an "erase all" button / built in canvas so you don't need to redownload a canvas for each map.

If anyone here has ever played Farcry 2 then you would know that in that game they would have the original author and then in would say who it was edited by. If this were to be implemented into Halo Reach then this could solve all the problems with theft.

That's what I meant with 'static author'. :)

As suggested by other users this idea is great as well.
And to prevent the canvas problem Bungie could, as suggested above, simply ship all map canvases with the game or add a delete all button.
