Ok everone said that they should add a katana. But then there is the people who say that, that is really stupid. Now saying the katana idea is stupid, it is like saying the energysword is stupid. Now plaz dont say " ya but the energy sword is cool." Because adding in the katana is like making a unsc version. Also people say "Why would they use a katana so far in the future." Why does the covanet use swords. Now i just want to no do you think we should have a katana.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

The covenant doesn't use regular swords made out of metal.

you know, there won't even be a katana in the game.

it was added because Team Ninja put a spartan in their last DoA game, so in exchange, bungie added Hayabusa perms (and katana) to their games.
a bit like a trade, you know.

since there isn't going to be another trade similar to that, hayabusa (and katana) won't be in Reach AT ALL.

I'd like to be half-man half-tree in an octopus' garden in the shade.

I think there should be an armor variant similar to the Katana, but not the Katana itself.

No, that's a combat knife, not a sword.

actually, it's a machete.

I think they should look at players who played and drew their own armor perms and see if they can't re-create that and have that for Reach's Multiplayer.

I wanted a gumball so I said "Yo devil you got change for a soul?"Satan appeared and said "Yeah, yeah mosuckra! I got yo change right here just sign this contract and I'll give you your quarters!" So I signed it, lost my soul, and got 4 quarters. I have never regretted this decision.

I make coups, they are fun to make. Want me to make you one? Just ask I'll see what I can do.

Correction z0rgy, I just did a little digging and those are UNSC combat knives.

I REALLY believe it's a machete... unless knives doubled size and length in the army

Search up UNSC Combat Knife. And you get the image of the blade from the Legendary Symbol.

Yeah They dont have swords made out of metal thats why they are effective. If you are wearing spartan armor that is metal how do you expect a katana to penetrate.

metal wouldnt do a thing

halo takes place in 2552 it is propably more powerful by then. maybe you "turn on" the blade edge of it like you turn on the entire energy sword.

  • 09.02.2009 5:25 PM PDT

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I'm gonna put it this way, the Katana as a usable weapon would be about as EFFECTIVE AS A PILLOW in Halo. Maybe a LITTLE stronger than the Melee, but still far weaker than a Sword, or Hammer for that matter. Also, the Energy Sword is a CEREMONIAL ICON, and a SYMBOL OF HONOR. Something Spartan's really couldn't give 2 -blam!-s about.

We still shoot bullets out of guns, I doubt Knives or Swords are ANY different either.

There was originally a machete planned in the first Halo, but it was decided that there would be no practicality behind it. What is a metal edge going to do against energy shields? Bullets don't even puncture unless used in high amount.

Exactly what I was saying all day. In Halo CE all a knife could have done would have been to reduce the number of Melee attacks necessary to kill from 3, to 2.

I don't know if i would go that far, as the books do make mention of use of knives for silent kills. The catch is that that is only against unshielded enemies, Grunts and Jackals. Even though I doubt (hopefully) that Brutes will be featured in this game, in First Strike, the description when John was fighting with one leads me to believe that a blade wouldn't even penetrate their muscles.

I'm gonna put it simple. In Halo Wars, Forge could NEVER EVER kill the Arbiter that way. His bones were broken, his energy gone. He was as good as dead.

I really do hate the whole "The good guys have to win" rule they put into game and movies usually. I want to see it happen the way IT WOULD once in a while, and those Spartans, and Forge, were SCREWED.

Go away.

Can everyone just chill on the armor? You go to making RECON thread and how people love it so much to making katana threads. It's dumb armor.
PLUS you guys talk about how the stupid KATANA incident when Halo 3 first came out and how RECON will be worse. Just forget and move on.

Geez. Don't get me wrong.

I have to disagree somewhat in regards to the Spartans, they really are that badass. The only complaint I had is that the Elites in that cinema seemed to be unshielded, which made no sense. Still, against a group of Elites without projectile weapons, I do believe that fight would have ended up the same way.

In regards to Forge, I have mixed feelings on the matter. You could argue that since the Arbiters armor is a more antique system than a typical Elites (as stated in Halo2) it is possible that his shield was weakened or gone from the earlier gunfire. Note I said possible, if they wanted to stretch it. However, that is really neither here nor there, because he should have been spitting up blood after that punch, so I feel you there.

no. energy sword is enough.

  • 09.02.2009 6:38 PM PDT

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

The ones in the Covenant that use Energy Swords have ENERGY SHIELDS, active camouflage at times, dense armor of an unknown alloy to us, and are friggin' big. They're called Elites. If they wanted to use a friggin' WHIP they probably could. The UNSC? The closest they have are Spartan IIs, which at the max there was..what, like, 75 or so? I need to refresh my memory, but I'm pretty sure during the time this game is set there were thousands upon thousands of Sangheili in the Covenant.
