No.

The energy sword makes sense in the story. A katana does not.

The covenant doesn't use regular swords made out of metal.

No one knows what the katana is made out of it has remained covered and on the backs of spartans since they first put it on. For all we know it could be it could be made out of the same material as the energy sword just a version for the UNSC.

Absolutly NOT..The last time that people used a Katana was in WWII..and they didnt much use of it,only for "honor" they did. And besides the Katana doesn't Cut a Gun in half so why should a Spartan Armor would be? in the other hand a combat knife is more effective..why?is smaller and it can hit the Spartans or Elites "soft parts"

Not to mention a spartan could destroy a human skull just by gripping it hard enough.

halo takes place in 2552 it is propably more powerful by then. maybe you "turn on" the blade edge of it like you turn on the entire energy sword.

We still shoot bullets out of guns, I doubt Knives or Swords are ANY different either.

If a spartan can flip any vehicle, and punch a tank a couple times and blow it up, or crush a skull with there hands im sure they can hit someone with a knife through the armor.
And they use bullets because they work well. If a marine was using the knife, they would be screwed unless it was upgraded.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

A sword would have to be made out of some pretty strong stuff in order to survive a Spartan attempting to cut through it with anything. But once again you are ignoring the practicality, as most do in these fantasy requests.

Considering that the only reasons bullets work against energy shields is due to constant bombardment or extreme velocity (sniper rounds) I still don't see how anyone could think that have a katana would be a good choice in a large scale ground engagement.

Were it so easy.

What the hell, where did that last question come from? They better leave the Energy Sword in.

  • 09.03.2009 9:27 PM PDT

Beware the smiley face! =D

Because adding in the katana is like making a unsc version

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Katana isnt a UNSC weapon. Its a ceromonial sword.

I dont think we should have a Katana. It looks wierd and i'd rather have something better.

There was originally a machete planned in the first Halo, but it was decided that there would be no practicality behind it. What is a metal edge going to do against energy shields? Bullets don't even puncture unless used in high amount.

Exactly what I was saying all day. In Halo CE all a knife could have done would have been to reduce the number of Melee attacks necessary to kill from 3, to 2.

I don't know if i would go that far, as the books do make mention of use of knives for silent kills. The catch is that that is only against unshielded enemies, Grunts and Jackals. Even though I doubt (hopefully) that Brutes will be featured in this game, in First Strike, the description when John was fighting with one leads me to believe that a blade wouldn't even penetrate their muscles.

I'm gonna put it simple. In Halo Wars, Forge could NEVER EVER kill the Arbiter that way. His bones were broken, his energy gone. He was as good as dead.

I really do hate the whole "The good guys have to win" rule they put into game and movies usually. I want to see it happen the way IT WOULD once in a while, and those Spartans, and Forge, were SCREWED.

Forge was screwed. But the Spartans? They were far from screwed.

It would be cool to have a unsc katana made out of some special material or something.
A reason for the Halo 3 katana armor perhaps?

Katana, Hayabusa, and Energy Sword was like one of the best ideas in Halo. Forge and Spartans was the best idea in Halo, I don't like ODST.

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops. Boasting over 4000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active b.net groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret. Welcome to the family!

I would like to have my Katana in Reach. I think it would be stupid and un-realistic to have it as a weapon though.

Misleading titles are misleading. I thought you were talking about the armor perm., but you're actually talking about it as a weapon lol... Really? A Spartan wielding a Samurai Sword? No. I'd rather have a battle knife or something more worthy and fitting.

Posting on bungie.net should require that the user has had to have read a chapter book all the way through.

it was added because Team Ninja put a spartan in their last DoA game, so in exchange, bungie added Hayabusa perms (and katana) to their games.
a bit like a trade, you know.

Is that true?
