Hi

From reading exerpts from the Bungie forums, I have discovered the 56k dial up player is not well liked. Does anyone know where a dial up player can play without getting disconnected from the server all the time. Everytime i enter a game i get disconnected within 10 to 30 seconds. This is becoming highly frustrating. I cannot get cable or a dsl modem because my area does not offer it. Anybody knows how to make a 56k dial up player, play a full multiplayer game too? its happen a few times.

You can't put fuel stabilizer in bad gas and expect it to be good again....

Translation - 56k will never work decently with Halo PC Multiplayer - Guys -explain to this gentlemen why HPC has problems with 56k.....

(and bungie, grab your flame-proof sheild)

i don't know if this will help you at all, but here are my suggestions:

Remove all viruses and spyware. This could be bogging down your connection.

Use an online internet speed test to see how fast your dialup really is. one place to do this is Pcpitstop

old or bad wiring in the house can slow down your connection speed, so check on that. Also, use the shortest phone cabe from the modem to the wall, because the signal degrades more over long cords.

buy a high quality modem with a high quality isp. you get what you pay for, i guess.

If you have a 56k connection, you can't get any faster than 56k. Simple. Because of the netcode, 56kers cause alot of lag because they have a slower connection than everyone else, slowing everyone else down too.

A shorter phone wire won't change much since electricity moves at speeds near the speed of ligh (300,000 km/s) and shortening a phone cord by even 100m will produce a neglible performance improvement. 56K is generally worthless as far as gaming goes, but you will notice that other online multiplayer games run better than HPC does on 56K.

Also - rockets and blood gulch? That sounds very lag intensive. Many packets, many streams....ooh my head hurts.

hahahahahaah,Sorry about the headache aM inspire, I believe games involving rockets and rarely blood gulch, are the ones i can stay the full time in. There are even times when i ping 200 on 56k. But most of the time i get a high ping.

wow - not bad - as long as you're having a good time man!

Consider getting DSL or Cable if you want it to get better.

I have DSL Lite from Bellsouth and since all my communications services are with Blessouth, it's only like $15 or $20 a month for broadband - and it's much more lag free!

yah and even consider t1 if you cant get cable or dsl, you wont regret it. And if you have dialup it's pretty much just for email and lite searching, you wouldnt want to game on a phone line, also if your playing on a laptop you should try on a desktop, they tend to be more powerful and better for gaming.

the server just could be playing up give it a try. if you want to talk to me send me a message
try getting an adsl modem for 2.2mbps im paying about £20.00 a month and thats very cheep for that speed but dont let 56k let you down

Desktops are far better for gaming, but I prefer a laptop, since gaming is not the only thing I do on my computer, and I prefer to bring my work with me to class.

Get a desktop, though, if you want to reduce lag. Its not just the connection, but how powerful your computer is, that contributes to lag.

56k only? No other options? Where do you live, anyways?

56kers feel the affects of their connection much more in halo than in most other games. What kind of parts do you have in your comp? I doubt that is slowing you down but you never know.

you know your hardware is the real problem if you lag in campaign as well as multiplayer. It's recommended that your hardware be no less than 1.5x the minimum system requirements on the box to get fair performance.

I don't know about Halo, but I used to play other games on dial up with a 26k partitioned connection. I never would have gotten out of the server list if I didn't cut back on the extras. Disable video effects like blood, decals, particles and texturing. These things are being updated to your computer via your internet connection (at least, the blood and particles like dust when a sniper round lands near you is) and eating up your bandwidth which make you lag. Disabling these effects may make the game look less appealing, but should also improve your gameplay and the gameplay of the other players.

I too have dial-up and the reason I always get disconnected from servers is because I used to have call waiting. The beep of it inturrupts my modem and Halo cant have a relyable connecton with the server. It also happens when someone tries to call (with or without call-waiting). Like everyone else said, try to lower effects and stick to servers with one or two people on them.

Oh and I only get 200-400 ping with my 32-46kbps dial-up (and why is yours so high???)
