Me and my buddies love LAN halo with 16 players....the only problem is having 4 guys per xbox. Me and a friend are the best out of us all. He screen cheats. I used too, but everyone got mad at me for doing so. I hate doing it because it just gives me more of an edge than I already have. Does anyone else screen cheat? Does anyone hate screen cheaters? Me and my friends favorite level is Hang Em High Slayer. We play that level so much I could run from one end of the level to the other. When we only play 4 people, we all play on the same tv, and my friend always beats me by 3-4 kills. I hate playing with him cause he screen cheats. What is everyones thoughts on screencheaters?

i hate screen cheating, my friend does that when we play and he always beats me because he knows where i am and if im getting ready to shoot him. i know im so much better than he is. i have a system link cable and ive told him we should play on it to prove who is better, but he always makes up some dumb excuse to get out of it because he know he isnt better than me

Screen peeking DOES suck, and takes some level of self-respect and containment to avoid, but is nontheless extremely easy and cheap to do.

It's true what you say...Screen cheaters do have an advantage...but you just have to find that persons weak point and beat them even tho they screen cheat...I mean...most of my friends do it...but I still manage to beat them...Just try harder man..

I don't know. I'm a little torn on this subject. When I'm playing with my friends who are nowhere near the Halo player I am, I try not to screen look, because that's just redeiculous. But the other day I was playing some 3 person FFA with some guys that are better than me and I got "-blam!-ed" or meleed in the back if you don't know what that is. They laughed and made fun of me and asked if I wasn't screen looking. I said "No." They laughed again and said "You're playing ffa on one tv and you aren't screen looking? You deserved it." I started screen looking, let me tell you. LOL So I think it depends on the set rules you have with your friends. Plus, being able to glance at another players screen and back at yours to see where they are and keep doing what you're doing does require some skill and knowledge of the level. If you don't want to deal with screen looking, there is always the System Link option.

I don't think there is anything wrong with screen looking.

If nobody screen looks, its mutual respect.
If everybody screen looks, its mutual disrespect.
Either way, everyone has the same edge.
So what's the difference?

If you think you are noble enough to be above such tactics, then don't complain.

Screen looking is fine. I do it, and so do all my friends. How do you NOT screen look if you're playing on the same tv as someone else? It's impossible to resist the urge.

alright me and my friends are torn on the subject. We usually try hard not to do it but We always see the other peoples screens in the corner of our eye and if we see somebody zooming in at our head or about to bash us, what are we supposed to do, just not react? how many people would let somebody kill them just to be "a better person"

I've always just considered it part of the strategy for playing on just one TV. I usually only play with my brother and we haven't ever talked about it, we just assume the other person is looking. I actually find it funny when he sees I'm about to snipe him and he tries to run and hide and I can feel him getting pissed because he knows he has nowhere to go and Bam, he's dead. Also to keep him from knowing where I'm at I just watch how and where I move to. Many levels have multiple areas that look alike or very similar, and I never have a problem finding a spot that looks like it could be at least 2 or 3 different places in the map. And I don't worry about him seeing himself running on my screen because usually when he's on my screen that means he's about to die. I can't wait until Halo 2 though because I'm going to be on Live a whole lot, I've always wanted to play without other people seeing my screen and when I get the money I'm dedicating a room in my house just for Lan party's, 4 TV's, 4 Xbox's, and maybe even a few controllers each. Oh yeah, just one chair though, my chair, everyone else can stand or bring there own chair, HA HA.

I stay away from screen hooking because it take all teh fun out of the game. How can you sneak up and hit someone in the back (HUMILIATION) if they are constantly monitoring your screen. Usually when I have a LAN party we try to stick to team games so there isn't as much of a problem. Also if there are tons of people in a game shooting at your friends then they don't have time to screen hook ;)

I think screen looking is a bunch of crap!! People say its part of the game but thats just an excuse for there lack of skill and me an all the other who dont screen look will be givin are proper respect once halo2 comes out when you can play on xbox live. Or paly halo on xbox connect all those screen lookers will lose there little advantage and will be handed there a$$ on a silver plater.

screen looking is crap and shouldn't be allowed to be used. it takes the fun out of the game because you can't hide and run from them. so i don't allow people to screen look.

Screen lookers SUCK, THEY ARE USELESS PEICES OF -blam!- WHO CANT PLAY A GAME FOR THERE LIFE, THEY OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO SKILL AND TAKE THE FUN OUT OF GAMES BY CHEATING.

People screen cheat with me if it earitates me I say i dont wanna play. Its really -blam!- if you say dont complaing or its hard not to look.

I don't screen cheat because the satisfaction of winning is that much greater if it's a lidgit win....and maybe I'll know for sure someday if I win a game...

  • 04.27.2004 9:12 AM PDT

I combat screen cheaters by either looking at a wall, or at the sky when I'm trying to sneak up on them- to throw off their looking. Works every time.

Oh and Havoc, get over it. ;-)

My group of freinds are HUGE screen-looker haters. I used to screen look all the time, that is until one of my freinds tried to snipe me while I was lining up a rocket shot and I "conveniently" moved out of the way. From then on my freinds "-blam!-" me in the back of my head when I screen-look.

What relly changed though, is us finding out that there are a whole lot of people in our area that play Halo. So to avoid screen-lookers we just never play with just one box. EVER.
My freinds insist that four-person on one TV has "lost it's charm" and that it's no fun unless you have at least 6 people. Which I find to be true.
In such situations, screen looking off of a teammate while playing CTF allows you non-verbal communication when you're trying to be sneaky.

All in aall, I find screen looking to be a double edged sword, it's only a bad thing when you have opposing players on the same screen. Which we almost never do.

bah

When I used to play with the first person I played Halo with, we watched each others screens like a hawk. When I started playing with some other people (people who actually had the game) it was quickly banned. I must admit, kicking the habit was hard, but eventually I managed to not look at their screens. This was manly because I no longer had to though. My perhephiral vision is so good I don't need to look away form my screen to see theirs. My "screen watching" got to be so bad, all my friend ever did was -blam!- about it. But then we got a system link cable, and played over the link. When I was still kicking their asses, they would occasionally yell out I was screen watchin as a joke. To this day, when someone does something that requires a large amount of luck, like turning right before you melee them or hiding right as you line up their head, we'll yell out "Screen watcher!" :)

Screan Looking is -blam!-... OH, and so's respawn killing (usually/almost always snipers)

  • 04.27.2004 11:55 AM PDT

I know the levels exaclty, so its actually physically impossible for me NOT to see where they are. Even if I am looking directly at my portion of the screen, I can note things out of the corner of my eye that lets me know where they are. Its not "cheating," its unavoidable.

Screan Looking is -blam!-...
Please refrain from using that word in a negative sense. -blam!- people would find that extremely offensive (although the word has its roots as a negative word, they turned it around). And some people get around the conflict by allowing it. This way, no one can get angry. And i agree about spawn killing but rarely is it ever a sniper. I've met the end of a shotgun, the bumper of a hog, or the shell of a tank more often that the sweet kiss of death from an S2AM round.

Playing with 4 people on 1 screen, its impossible not to screen look. No matter how hard you try, you can always make out something out of the corner of your eye. The best thing is to set up some ground rules with your friends. If they look, then feel free to give them a taste of their own medicine. Sometimes its pretty funny when you're trying to snipe someone and he sees you and is running around bunny-hopping.

It doesn't matter who you are, you know you look at other people's screens. It may be because you can't find a single person and want a general location, or you could be just tracking them down like dogs. You could be bored and just let your eyes stray and you end up finding out where someone is... Of course you're gonna move in that direction, who wouldn't?

My advice is to learn to deal with it. It's as much a part of the game as what's on your T.V. If someone is looking at your screen and is getting an advantage, you know what you do? Look at their's. It's as simple as that.
