There has been many post on graphics, game play, and weapons. But little has been thought of for the game AI. The last Halo AI's where fair to say the least. But not many people can tell the difference.

Most complex game AI: Left 4 Dead

The Ai, or "Director" as it is called, Controls every aspect of the game. It chooses where zombies spawn, how many, when to "release" a tank, gun and health spawn points, tweaks in difficulty, music, and too many more to list. Compared to the Halo games the L4D algorithms are completely futuristic and revolutionary. I think its time for Bungie to step up to the plate and kick some ass.

Artificial Intelligence Battle Net

Halo 3: ODST features an AI helping you out. It is damaged and fractured but still offers assistants. I think Reach should have an AI such as this. Except far more advance and interactive.

In the field: My vision

The forest stretches below you in a winding path of trees and vegetation. A group of ODST has taken strategic positions and cover behind you (curtsey of the advance AI). Your radar pics up movement below, and you see scores of wraiths, ghost, an infantry sweeping across the land scape below. You remain just outside the range of there detection equipment, which is drawn on your HUD as a light green dome extending from the covenant below. Your on board computer tracks and tags targets with mini waypoints.

You target the center of the mass of troops, and speak clearly into your mic: Requesting bombardment at this location.

AI: Available Long Swords are available 5 minutes from your current position.

You: Launch bombing run on the current coordinates.

AI: Long Swords on route. ETA 5 minutes

A blue nav point appears outlining the target zone. The Covenant continue advancing. You have to slow them down for the bombing run to have the greatest effect. You hit the back button and your ODST squad data appears at the bottom of the screen. Complete with stamina, heart beat, ammo, and other ordnance and equipment.

You: Alex, activate charges three and four

ODST Alex: Charges off in 3.. 2... 1...

The entire area the front covenant scouts just passed erupts in a firey explosion. Trees light up like matches, methane tanks explode, general confusion among the ranks is instantaneous (curtsey of game AI). Elites charge forward attempting in vain to regain order over the anarchy.

You: Move up and engage hostile forces

Green acknowledgment lights wink at the bottom of your screen. You step into the now uneven and red line of detection in front of you, signaling that it is in complete disorder. Your squad automatically spreads out to flank. Some elites gather a few Grunts and Jackals and create a phalanx to slow you down. Gun fire burst around you as the ODST open fire. The majority of the Covenant are still unorganized and pose little threat for now.

The covenant phalanx has built up and they where now advancing rather than defending.

AI: Long Sword ETA 1 minute.

Alex finishes planting the remaining charges as you previously ordered. You begin to fall back while taking opportunity shots whenever you see an opening. The Covenant battle net detection system is now once more fully organized and Wraiths now begin targeting your area. Banshees zoom in on your location and swoop down whenever you sprint from cover.

The Covenant infantry breaks formation and speeds for ward to engage. The charges detonate in an inferno of flames....

It doesn't have the impact of the original, and far larger explosion. But it slows them down.

AI: Long Swords in range. Stand by.

A boom echoes overhead as Long Swords exit super sonic speed for just a moment to empty there pay load. One is shot down from AA fire out side the map. The entire Covenant force is flash vaporized. Your ODST squad stats become red to signify stress. There heart beats speed up, there stamina increases as they get a burst of motivation. But you survive.

That is my dream of an advance AI for Reach. Not only that but make the levels different every time. Randomize enemies, even change the basic lay out of the map. New experience every time.

Massive online battles supported by huge servers and main frame computers. To support such a system may even require extra pay. But it would be worth every penny of it. An option where you can even purchase the AI to your xbox (computer?) to voice command your xbox....

Updates to come

EDIT1: Extra features

Your suit tracking covenant line of sight. Display covenant Shields, heart beats and other info when targeted. Scramble there communications via pinpoint lasers. Make openings with all those combined to sneak through large forces. Mark targets and track through walls. Assign hostiles to every ODST and order to kill simultaneously. Pick up enemy heart beats through wall with special radar. Which can also be switched to infa red and to receive electric impulses, like from machinery or power armor. Maybe even scout armor being default. The description says it was made for stealth.

S.T.A.R.S. satellite coverage (featured in Halo: Ghost of Onyx). Tap into it with communication beams whenever you have open view of sky. Receive intel through it, as well as manually scan (predator style, except far better resolution) the area below with birds eye view. Order bombardments that way as well as mark targets.
Comments?.....

Life is interesting...

Super isn't actually an AI. It is a said AI, like Cortana. They say she is an AI but it is a character with scripted actions.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

Wouldn't work. What if you don't have a mic? What if you have a speech impediment? No point putting something in if not everybody can use it with ease.

You know what would be easier? Pushing 2 buttons or whatever and select the location like that?

There would be an option. Mic being preferred. It won't disrupt play.

And the super AI? I'm talking about the game AI, which is basically a bunch of code. The AI in the game would obviously be part of the game AI. But its playing as a "smart" AI from the Halo universe.

think this.

Ok, don't know if you've ever heard of the game Brothers in Arms or Socom Navy Seal(PS3). The games have pretty intelligent AI. What you're saying is pretty sweet but I can see it more like the squad controls in Socom or Brothers In Arms.

Its centuries into the future. I think it would be realistic if a new high end squad of ODST and you get all this experimental tech.

I'm just saying I could see something a little bit more advanced in Reach from the simple squad controls in those two games

Then i certainly do think it would be an interesting addition to gameplay :)

Awesome!

And about making it more advance.... let me see....

Suit tracking covenant line of sight. Shields, heart beats (appears top left when targeted). Scramble there communications via pinpoint lasers. Make opening with all those combined to sneak through large forces. Mark targets and track through walls. Assign hostiles to every ODST and order to kill simultaneously. I think you get the picture.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

I think it would be a cool addition into Halo Reach, seems original. I think it'd be great. But I wouldn't make it too complicated, but complicated enough so that it makes you feel like it's an A.I.

The speech and features have to have enough diversity to make it seem that way.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I was more impressed with Halo CEs AI than L4D's AI.
