Some skulls have them, others don't. Some "protectors" ignore you, others don't...
i.e. - Envy has two cammoed Elites nearby. You can push them off the edge, and eventually pushing them far enough makes their cammo drop; Marines will then attack. Other than somewhat explaining the skull's effect, is there any purpose/anything cool that can be done with these guys ?

My guess is, is that they have no purpose, besides being their to prove you found something important.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

For protection or it could just be for the scenery.

I have a feeling they are just there to be there. They serve no purpose, other than the first time you find a skull ( I mean the very first skull you ever found) they are there to give you pause....a "do I really want to risk picking this up?" kind of pause......other than that, the grunts at GBP and the elites at Envy do nothing but die from a blow to the spine.
