Subject: My Two Biggest "Wants."

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

Let's admit it. Halo 3 was not the best looking game ever. One of my biggest "wants" for Reach is a new graphics engine. Something that would put every game out there to shame. I'm comfident that Bungie could do something like this. The other thing that I really, really, really want is a grittier game. I'm aware that Halo is known for being rather "kid-friendly" for an M rated title. I want to see a bit more blood, a bit more gore, and just a darker feeling. I think Halo is a rather strange game, because Humanity is fighting for their very survival and everything is chipper as hell I can remember only three times in the Halo series where I was saddened by the story and those wer in order 1) Miranda Keye's death 2) Finding Cortana and 3) Johnson's death.
I would like to know what you guys think about this, and what you want out of Reach.
EDIT: I know that the so called "AAA Engine" will blow everything out right now out of the water. However something I would want, is for it to blow everything out at the time of it's release out of the water. Anyways perhaps I should lower my standards slightly seeing as how Reach will more that likely not be the perfect game and not all of my expectations will be met.
EDIT: I was wondering if you guys would be willing to pay a little extra money if Halo: Reach was packaged with 2 or more disks. That way we could pretty much get everything we wanted. without putting too big a strain on the 360.

Both of these things have been addressed in several topics already, but I agree with both things. It's utterly unacceptable if Bungie uses the Halo 3 engine again, but I'm optimistic they're using new tech.

And watching videos like the new ODST live action trailer, halo landfall, all of the live action halo 3 trailers, the halo 2 e3 2003 demo, etc. makes the games seem to epic and gritty and war-torn and that's what fans have been asking for this whole time, but bungie has yet to give us a game like that. I love the halo games, but you never get a sense you're in a serious war.

It has been rumored alot, and not without evidence, that Halo: Reach's graphics are going to blow the current games out of the water.

Until you realize it's held back quite a bit because of the 360's aging hardware. I hope it looks better too, and I would be surprised if it didn't, but there's a limit to what they can do.

the engine isn't called "AAA Engine" (it'd be a lame name imo XD), the AAA stands for high quality and powerful.
you know, triple A grade engine.

What about a small cover system not like in gow but something for when you got 12 elites on you and you want to hug the wall not just stand beside it?

I don't know man I never really liked cover based games because they were so damn slow. Halo has always been very fast paced and having a cover system would just make things more laid back I guess.

Why would you want to hug the wall? all that'd happen is that rather than being able to run off immediately throwing stickies behind you, the elites would run round the corner and smack you in the face, lob grenades in the general area...

Agreed to both.

Especially the latter, for a M rated game, the story theme is much too light. From the revolution of the elites to the death of Johnson. The atmosphere just did not deliver. To me, a game can't just focus on multiplayer, it needs backbone; a strong story.

Gears did a relatively better job, but I think it's still a long way there.

I'm relatively new here at the forums, so I was wondering: Does Bungie read this stuff? I mean it would be cool if they did, so then they could you know know what the fans want from Halo: Reach.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I can tell just by this sentence that you have NOT played the entire series. In Halo CE, the game was VERY gritty, and had a decent amount of blood and gore. In events such as the death of Captain Jacob Keyes, where Master Chief literally had to drive his hand INTO the Captain's rotting skull to get the Chip from his head. Or in 343 Guilty Spark when we witnessed the death of nearly an entire squad of Marines at the hands of the Flood, all to the dark, emotional song Lament for Pvt Jenkins.

Halo 2 had less of the Halo CE darkness feel, but still featured the sadness of the separation of Cortana and Master Chief.

Guess I forgot about that. I don't know it's been almost a year since I played through Halo: CE. I guess I should brush up. Anyways now that you mention it the captains death was emotional and the marine's deaths were scary as hell. They should add more of the Halo: CE "paint a room with blood" feature.

the only Halo game that maked me get REALLY sad was Halo 2. The sad moments where.

When the Chief seems to die at the end of Regret
When the Arbiter is betrayled and many Elites die :' (
When the Chief have to leave Cortana.

To me the saddest moment was the betrayal to the Elites : (
(I prefer the Arbiter campaign, is more fun and more intense)
