Subject: The arbiter was the one who destroyed reach

So, though I'm sure he never tells chief in person, I think the contrast is pretty cool, and if they bother to show the players in reach, then next time they play halo 2/3 they will feel completely different about the arbiter.

The arbiter was the leader of the fleet that destroyed reach. He led the largest covenant force ever (next to truths fleet at delta halo) and destroyed the most important non-earth planet ever. He is responsible for killing more spartans, and probably more humans than any other elite (not personally, but he commanded the fleet). He's personally killed most of master chiefs family (spartans), the only people he ever felt a connection to.

I wonder just how chief would react if he knew the arbiter he was working along side with was the exact same elite that did this to his brethren.

I'm hoping bungie makes some reference to the arbiter in this game. Something to show how the one who wounded humanity more than any other covenant leader, was the exact same guy who was at the funeral at the end of H3, paying his respects to some of the people he was surely responsible for killing. This way we can see the stark contrast of the arbiter in H2/3, it will make his fall from grace and his eventual defection seem that much more significant.

And no, I don't mean play as the arbiter, but I'm hoping a scene or two where the arbiter is tasked with leading the fleet against reach or something. It will help tie it all together. To me, the chief you read about in the books feels completely different from the chief you play in the game, so anything to pull that together, is great to me.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Not entirely. The Arbiter left Reach when the Pillar of Autumn fled. He never returned. So everything that Happened on Reach after that point had nothing to do with him (Spartans were still alive on Reach AFTER the Halo Event, so all that time, the Arbiter (Supreme Commander Thel 'Vadamee of the Fleet of Particular Justice at the time) was not responsible for anything that happened on Reach.

Know what you are talking about before you speak.

The Supreme Commander is NOT the Commander of all Elites. Only a Combined Fleet.

The Imperial Admiral leads the entire Elite Navy, but there is undoubtedly higher than him that leads the military in general, in any case, his name is Xytan 'Jar Wattinree.

The Arbiter, formerly Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice, was beneath Xytan.

is halo reach 1st person shooter?
just asking :P

THe arbiter (thel vadam) was the one who commanded the ships that destroyed reach.

The bombing of reach began just before the pillar left.

The arbiter, vthel vadam, was the one who led the forces and commanded them to destroy reach.

He was answering to a higher rank, but HE is the one who commanded the army.

Thel vadam, the arbiter, was the one.

The other guy doesn't matter. THe point of this thread is that the arbiter led the fleet in combat.

i agree with your idea.

Nihilism (from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

Put simply in the words of Nietzsche as "the will to nothingness".

I was always hoping for some more animosity between chief and arby but when they eventually meet on earth all there is a few seconds with chief about to blow his head off and jonhson telling him to stand down.

What I'm trying to say is that there could of been a bit more action. They became too friendly, too quickly.

well, you see, they couldnt fight cus' cheif an arby are you. you play as them. therefore their skill matches yours. from being a true spartan to hardly being able to walk. so it would be impossible for bungie to create such a fight.

cheif would still win though

Why are there always hunters?

one thing I think we can all agree on is that reach is gonna be interesting.

They had to be. They were the ones who decided the war.

For sure man. Arbiter went from humanities greatest extinctionator to their best bud wayyy too quick. Of course, maybe he was "just following orders".

Sigh...sometimes I wish bungie could go back and remake the games, but this time make them in all their epic glory, with all the story told in all its epicness, not just one dumbed down for the sake of gameplay.

I'd pay another 60 bucks for each. H2/3.

I'm just gonna point this out not knowing if it means anything at all. Would the leader of a whole Fleet leave a whole battle to go chase one tiny ship? I would think not, leaders don't go chasing things right when they are destroying a whole army and planet.

Hello! I'm a male!

lol the arbiters are sent on suicide missions. They aren't all the same person. pay attention in halo 2 when the profits make him the arbiter and look at how many different armors there are.i mean it's obvious they have more than 1 arbiter at a time and they don't usually survive there fights.

No. The Arbiter left before Reach fell. Some other Fleetmaster(s) glassed the planet and destroyed Reach.

You forget how important Halo is to the covenant religion, and how important religion is to them. Thel probably figured out that the Pillar was headed right for Halo, and knew he had to stop them. That's why he took all his ships and gave chase, attempting to prevent the humans from desecrating a holy artifact (which, of course, they did).

Watch the beginning of Halo 2, it proves you wrong. If the Covenant had figured that they were going for the Halo that would mean they had known it was there, which they didn't.

The Pillar of Autumn was important enough to follow. Halo just added fuel to the fire.
Halo didn't add any fuel to the fire, though, because the Covenant had no idea it was the PoA's destination.

  • 09.08.2009 7:28 AM PDT

Well technically, he didn't oversee the whole of it's destruction, after the Pillar of Autumn fled with the Chief mid-way into the battle, he says "[he] followed with all the ships in [his] command" to Halo. That actually always confused me, why would he take his entire Fleet after such a small ship? Anyway, he wasn't present for most of Reach's destruction.
