Subject: Do all of you seriously want Halo 3.5?

Posted by: FFSalt
Of course not, that'd be incredibly stupid. I want Halo 1.

YES!!! IF not halo 1 then something completely new but NOT halo 3.5.

Keep the red flag flying high
Coz Man United will never die!

Isn't it technically Halo 0.5?

  • 09.09.2009 10:02 AM PDT

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

I would have preferred Halo 2 to have been Halo 1.5.

I would have also preferred Halo 3 to have been Halo 2.5.

So yeah, rather than seeing them change the fundamentals of a formula that works, I would like to basically see an updated, nicer, smoother Halo than a brand new game.

Do a lot of people still not understand that this thread is about gameplay and not the story timeline?

I feel sorry for Bungie. They are, in this case, unable to make any innovative substantive changes to any games they make without angering a large legion of fans. Their success has constrained them.

On the other hand, if they were truly brave or cynical, they would escape the previous gameplay molds and try something new. Brave, in that they think they can make a unique game that people will want to buy, or cynical, they know the fans will buy the game no matter what happens.

And, as a matter of reference, CoD is not a 'realistic' game, if you want hyper realism, look at Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising or ARMA 2.

That would be an interesting game, Halo done in an Operation Flashpoint or ARMA 2 style...

Bungie better not change the way halo is. If they do, it shows how greedy they are in wanting to attract new players from gears and cod to play it. Now, thats what a Video Game studio is supposed to do...but just because its HALO people are going to be all over it. Lets please use all the money effectively, Bungie, from the 8.1 million copies sold of Halo 3 and make a KICK ASS GAME. Halo 3 was such a failure to the Casual gamer/Competitive gamer. It's a shame that Halo 3 turned out the way it did, Campaign and Multiplayer. Halo: Reach better be amazing and suitable for both, or else I am selling the game and my 360 and never playing video games again. Campaign i dont really care about for this game since I'm more of a competitive player, so I'm more for the Multiplayer. But either way, BOTH better be amazing for ALL kinds of players. Competitive, casual, matchmaking obsessed, play once a month IDC it better be amazing for everybody.

I feel bad for the dictionary. It has already established a definition for the word "innovation', yet people continue to think it means taking already used gameplay ideas from other games and sticking them in a game with a previously established gameplay formula instead of doing something new and unique to the shooter genre in general.

Having played all three games in a row in a single session. There really is nothing as buttery smooth as Halo 3.

Halo 3 is just phenomenally polished. Plays way better than Halo CE.

All the kids asking for 1.5, go away.

Do all of you seriously want Halo 3.5?

Yup.

On a more serious note, what was so wrong with H3 to let you hate it, I've read/played/watched every halo product to date and I for one thought it to be quite an epic conclusion. (except the fact that it seemed to be less in-depth than H2)

Agreed,

Going back to old mechanics and such would not be a wise move. Especially since those techniques and mechanics are outdated.

They can do better with things that are coming in with newly built engines and having less limitations than what they had with Halo Combat Evolved.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Considering that the sequals have gotten progressivly weaker from a campaign standpoint, I would prefer something new, not simply a continuation in the same vein. In regards to MP, competitive gameplay got more and more simplified with each iteration, so again i'd like a change or possible reset to gameplay that comes down to tactics more than weapons.

Aside from the preferece issues, no one wants to pay for a prettier version of the same game. I certainly think something new wouldn't hurt.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

Let Bungie update Halo 3 forever. They can tweak it and change things to try and make everyone happy (which will never happen). Also, let Bungie do add-ons like ODST to Halo 3 forever. Bringing in new maps and campaign types.

BUT, please, please, please...let Halo: Reach be something new and innovative that drastically changes the FPS genre the way that Halo:CE did. If anyone can do it Bungie can!

No to Halo 3.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....

But do you know why those changes were so drastic? Because no one ever put out a console FPS to do what Halo CE did. Driving, Co-op, Vast Majority of weapons that were somewhat balanced so that they can be used in a form of competitive multiplayer, but again, those techniques are outdated.

Don't make the assumption that other developers have learned from Halo Combat Evolved, because they have. Going back to Halo CE would be taking a step back which is not needed, especially since Reach is being built on a with a new (Reach Around lulz) engine.

Your right about one thing, we don't need a Halo 3.5, we need a Halo 5 and I have a feeling Bungie will deliver.

Simplified?
Are you joking?

Halo CE is incredibly simple, thats its most redeeming aspect. Its beautiful Simplicity. All you ever needed was the Pistol.

Halo 3 offers so much in the way of strategy.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

It also offers the most in the way of inconsistency due to bad weapon balance choices and a not up to par netcode. The spawn system in Halo 3 is also horrid.

huh? I think we want the same thing, but I'm not sure.

I want Bungie to continue to always update Halo 3 via downloads and add-ons like ODST.

I want Halo: Reach to be nothing like the Halo trilogy, besides being a FPS.

Comply?

The first part of the paragraph was more pointed towards you, yes. I am, agreeing with you, and I think Bungie will deliver.

The second part was more towards the people who want a Halo Combat Evolved clone.

Bad Weapon Balance?
How so?
The BR and Carbine are effective in most areas of the game excluding very tight corners and very long sight lines.
The AR is pretty heavily weighted towards close range combat (which I don't agree with) but its not like you do not have access to any of these weapons.

I mean really....... Weapon Balance? Weapon Balance is solid, every weapon works. If you use them in the intended way. Spikers are great counters to AR scrubs. The plasma Rifle does more DPS than the AR, but its effective range is lower. The Mauler is just like the shotgun just a tad weaker. The plasma pistol has its dual function of Anti-shield and Anti-Vehicle.

There isn't a single overpowered weapon in the game. All the weapons are effective at their intended ranges of engagement.

Spawns are fine. Its unfortunate that it is possible to manipulate the spawns, but the system is definitely improved over Halo 2 and CE. I'm sure bungie will improve on the Spawns in Reach to avoid long sight lines providing a sniper with a clear shot at primary or secondary spawns.

Progression is expected.

Add to that the fact that CE's simplicity is what gave birth to strategic gameplay. You had limited options, so you had to be a better player, not simply whore to most simplistic weapon in the Halo franchise (the BR).

And, yes Crow, the sequals MP gameplay is very simplified due in large part to the BR and it's imbalance to both the othe weapons and the maps for each sequal. All you need to be good in either sequal is to be good at the BR, that will cover your bases in nearly 90% of all scenarios. That is not the case with the CE pistol, due to the insane grenade toss and the fact that the pistol actually required aim.

All that being said I do want to clarify that I don't want a return to CE, I want Reach to be it's own game. Not another "welcome to Halo" title like 2 and 3 were.

I don't think it was the BR that made alot of other weapons useless, It was more or less the addition of Dual Weilding that ruined Halo 2 and Halo 3's game balance.

From some of the vids I've seen of ODST the Plasma Pistol is actually usefull for the first time since Halo 1.

I gotta disagree, while dual-wielding did hurt the balance of several of the weapons, it was the BR that offered the sad, streamlined gameplay that we have now IMO .

Ok, you're trolling me now.
The BR overpowered? HAhahahahahaha.
LOL, omg, the Pistol was overpowered.
The BR is so balanced its amazing. There is literally nothing wrong with the BR.

The Pistol was almost a sniper rifle, it actually made sniping a pain because it was so deadly at every distance.I had no problem killing someone at either cliff on blood gulch from the base. It was so easy.

The only gun you EVER needed in Halo CE was the pistol. you could forgo every single power weapon in Halo ce, and still waste someone with the pistol.

But alas, trollin hard, good job kid.
