The point of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his.- Gen. George S. Patton.

Before the covenant war, there were several spartans sent out to the outer rim; and never retrieved. I'ts entirely possible that one would have never heard of the war with the covenant, as the war concentrated on mostly the inner/middle colonies. Your character comes back after years of service in the outer rim, only to find that the earth has been nearly destroyed. You look for answers, an are told by aliens caused this. So, you commander a ship, and follow the elites to their homeward, not knowing the full story, but seeking vengeance.

I'm not saying this WILL be Reach's story line, as it has nothing to do with reach ^_^, but it is pretty cool, and it works well with this thread.

war never determines who is right, only who is left

good storyline. an exploration based game, it may get boring in the middle though, as there are few potential twists, as spartans only really care about each other, there is nothing for the charactor to relate to. good opening but it needs to be thought through. oh and i happen to know that some spartans were on reach. or is that non-canon?

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

That is a good idea, but unfortunately not possible. The SPARTANS were originally created to fight the insurrectionalists (thats the Rebels), but as soon as the Covenant made an appearance, all Spartans were reassigned.

The humans hold no territories in the "outer rim" (liking the StarWars influence), so why would a Spartan that is unaware of the Covenant war be sent there for no reason? Answer: They weren't.

Spartans were sent there for "Behind Enemy Lines" missions, and were in battlefields too distant to be recalled, against the Covenant.

You are correct, some were not at Reach. Grey Team springs to mind here, but I've got a feeling that they were taking on the Covenant on one of those missions I have stated above. Red Team... well no-one knows where they really are, and then there are the mysterious few Spartans that haven't been mentioned yet.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Yes, Grey team was supposed to be behind enemy lines at the time of Fall of Reach, but hadn't been heard from for a few years or so.

First, Red team is just a part of the Spartans as a whole. If you recall Fall of Reach and First Strike, the spartans that went ground-side on Reach were all assigned as "Red Team." As for the Spartans from Halo Wars, during the battle of Reach, they were still MIA along with the whole crew of Spirit of Fire (considered KIA officially).

At the time of the battle of Reach, 28 Spartans were alive, but only 25 were called to Reach for a special mission (which got interrupted and the Battle of Reach happened). The 3 not present were those of Grey Team.
