Subject: In depth explanation of how Forge should work for Halo Reach.

Spanish Revolution

I created this map to show you how Forge should work for Halo Reach, let's start.

Forge is divided now in two different models:Map editor and map maker.

The map editor
Is similar to the Halo 3 one,you can choose between weapons,vehicles... minor changes are only applied using this first model. No mayor changes uploaded just some tweaks(undo buttons, copy and paste weapons...).

The map maker

A brand new system, similar to the farcry 2 one,you can choose the weather, darkness and brightness... We will view this one steps by step.here we go.

1)You enter in the map maker lobby, you can choose between a few blank models:
-City model:The background is surrounded with big skyscrapers, flats etc.
-Grounded model:the background is surrounded with big mountains, rocks etc.
-Indoor model:no background is definied, you can choose your bounds using walls etc.

Note:each blank model has a different version of itself, for example you can choose between having lots of skyscraper or just a few flats in the city model.
More blank models could be added via DLC,a snowy one for example.

2)You choose the dimensions of your new map, this is done expanding a circle(squares and rectangles also allowed) to the desired lenght. The surface inside the circle will be the forgable zone.

3)Fun begins here,we will use a blank city map model ,the first you do is to choose the kind of ground:concrete, paving stones etc. This is not neccesary cause you can begin to forge from the default blank floor of the model.
You can place walls, walls with windows, rooftops, doors, bridges, tunnels, extend a pavement with the extendable tools(I will explain this),extend roads, traffic lights, cars and destroyed cars, operable doors and auto-doors,lights,barricades,trucks,ramps and fonts of fires...etc.

Forge tools
In this section I will explain some of the new forge tools.

-The grass spray:you use this tool to create grass texture, just hold the button and the spray will do the job.

-The extendable tool:you acces to this "tool" at the forge seccondary menu(X twice) and you will have the option to make an object extendable.Objects like pavements, roads, walls, bridges and rooftops are extendable objects. This system runs in a similar way to the sims one,you hold B and move the object to create a larger one.
Visual example.

-The plants tool:you use this tool to put different plants on the floor from small ones and some bushes to big trees.

-The dusting brush:you use this tool to add a dusty vision to walls, bridges and other stuff, each second you keep holding A a dusty and older vision you will add to your maps.

-The water tool:you use this tool to create portions of water around the map, from a small one to the biggest one.Lakes,rivers...

-The paving stones tool:you use this tool to create a surface of pavement stones, you can choose the texture your pavement stone will have from a default ones. The way this runs is similar to the seen in the visual example video.

-The weather filter:you can add this new objects to add a weather effect to your map:rain, storms, snow, sand storms and others, you can choose the intensity of the effects(very low-low-medium-high-extreme).

-The sun tool:you use this tool to choose if you want a night or day time and choose the intensity of this, moving this "sun" up and down will result in a lighter or darker athmosphere for your map. This tool runs in a very similar way to the farcry 2 one.

-The fonts:this new objects are used to produce foggy effects, you can choose the intensity, the type and the direction.

4)This is the final step, you just have to upload your map, after doing this you will have an option to take a screenshot of your map, that screenshot will illustrate your creation.

DLC Forge

Bungie could include series of DLC forge packs, they could be mensual for forge objects and ramdoms for blank map models.

-The mensual DLC:it could include objects for use in the map editor and the map maker, blocks, new windows models, new textures...

-The ramdom DLC:they include blank map models for exclusive use in the map maker.

NOTE:I will add new tools in the next posts, add your ideas and feelings, thanks.

AWESOME! I've always wanted Halo 3 Forge to be like this. I hope it's similar to this for Reach.

awesomesauce! greatest idea ever,I like the weather filter and the sun stuff,it could make my maps more epics.

Warning: You may find that my, or someone else's opinion does not comply with yours. Side effects of disagreement may include (but are not limited to): flaming, irrational behavior, broken keyboards, and/or nervous sweats. If you experience any of these symptoms refrain from communicating with others until the symptoms have subsided.

Dude, are these just your other accounts posting? FlapjacksNsyrup, was created TODAY.

Also, I don't really like your ideas. It is just a replica of the Far Cry 2 map editor, you just typed up most of the things you can do in that, Forge should look like this. It still has that Forge feel to it but you can make almost completely new maps, without eliminating the need for DLC.

Spanish Revolution

With this model you could be able to do relative big maps so that will be the most similar thing to a campaign map maker.

  • 09.09.2009 4:29 PM PDT

[Insert Catchy Phrase here]

I thought about a map maker mode along with forge a little ago posted a thread, but I didn't have enough thought into it I like your's better.
Edit:Link
Stick with his idea though it's better.

Nice ideas. I also have somehing to add. What about the ability to download skins for maps like in a DLC? Objects too.

Halo: Reach should be completely bent around creating more options to upgrade. For instance, if the wall tilting glitch on sandbox comes to be a big deal, Bungie could fix it because the game is created around upgrades. So flaws get fixed immediately. If Bungie wants to put a new object in Foundry, or if people want an elivator on Sandbox as an object, they could do it.

Of cource forge will be better in Reach so I used flaws from Halo 3 as an example of how other flaws should be attended to in Reach.

!!!!!!Elites Rule!!!!!

great ideas you got here

Ideas are easy, it's executing them thats hard.

Spanish Revolution

I know it is hard but Bungie has a big group of engineers working hard at Halo Reach.

heres a better idea, not that yours was bad. Think of this as a better alternative.

Why dont Microsoft just stop being panzies, and let the players use some sort of computer program and edit on there and just port the maps over via USB. If any one has played Fallout 3, it would be very similar. except you transfer it from USB to your HDD.

I honestly think this will never be done, due to Microsoft being lazy and way to protective.
