Subject: Please Listen to What I Have To Say About Reach...

Ladnil

Agreed with pretty much every customization request posted here, and thank all of you for not requesting BxB and BxR back.

I'd also like to add that I hope Bungie will treat equipment like the powerups/power weapons that they are when they build their maps. That means putting them in locations where they can be fought over, and giving them appropriately large respawn timers. The regenerator, power drain, and bubble shield are easily the equals of the OS or Camo in terms of strength.

A few examples of my complaint: playing Pit, and seeing somebody in a regen on top of the sniper tower is getting old, and it seems that there is always either a bubble or a regen active on Orbital from start of the game to the end.

dustin is the -blam!-.

Great ideas. I really hope this gets through to people.

so many good points...

It's also my opinion as well that customization is the key to Reach being the best halo game. Simple options like toggle on/off momentum grenades, momentum melees, melee lunge, button combos (beatdown combos & quick reloads), and also the ability to go through teleporters one way and come out looking the same way.

Halo 3 is for noobs. Gg NoRe.

All I have to say is this.

If Reach is a remake of Halo 1 or Halo 2, I would be the happiest kid alive.

If Reach is anything close to Halo 3, I will be the saddest kid alive.

There you GO, plain and simple.

I ... this is .. Oh my God, this has to be the most reasonable, intelligent, and articulate post I have ever see on these forums. I agree with everything except maybe the equipment and grenade bits, but I almost cried when you mentioned the arbitrary textures on sanbox-style maps' walls. I complain about them literally every time I try to make something. When you have to place a bridge in between the wall and the box you place so that you don't get stuck in a phantom jump animation you need to realize that you ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG.

Anyway, thank you for this thread.

edit: actually, screw equipment. Guardian is arguably one of the best maps in the game, and guess what it has. One bubble.

In terms of weapons, this is what I want. Sadly, most people just read the part about the BR and AR, and ignore the rest, which causes a lot of pointless flaming.

Those are some really good suggestions as well. Especially the BR and Spiker proposals.

e: Also the bit about the laser. I've always wanted two or three shots, and during the overheat, it drains your shields (which sounds very un-Halo like, but hey, I just hate the laser as is), but your suggestions are perfect. I would just rather have it removed entirely, though.

Great post, I absolutely agree with you. The bullet registration issue is probably more complex than we give Bungie credit for, you are dealing with a bunch of morons on XBL who can't figure out how to port forward or have their connection being shared while they are playing, plus multiple network settings, etc. However, a few things can easily be done:

1. Allow someone to make their 360 a dedicated host - Far Cry on Xbox 1 did this (although the netcode on that game was horrendous). This allows people who are serious about a good online experience set something up. Also, let custom lobbies see who host is and let host be manually changeable, i dunno by vote or something. But god its retarded that people make custom gametypes to see who host it.

2. Make host selection more reliable, I'm tired of experiencing horrible shot registration because some jackazz has host with full firewall on. The whole host decision making process is frustrating. I'm not even sure that getting a better connection will be worth it because it will only be a marginal improvement, who knows what my host record is, and I hear from ppl. on T1 who can't pull host, which is insane. The best connection should have host.

3. IMO Halo 2 netcode was better than Halo 3, whatever happened wasn't an upgrade, i'm sorry but this is a pretty consistent feeling in the competitive community.

Ok, now a few more little things, items like shield drainers, etc, are horrible and cowardly, and totally detract from a skilled game experience. I just hate them, a lot of ppl. do. THE BR was gimped way too much, and I have no idea why, its a great gun. Make it the base start weapon for EVERY game. The AR is good for about 3 feet (exaggerating). People are insecure about getting "out BR'ed" so a lot of people hate it, but if it was the default weapon, everyone would be practiced with its use.

I totally agree with the customization idea, that will allow for everyone to be happy, and Reach can sell 2.3 billion copies and raise the real GDP of the US by a half percentage point. So do your part Bungie, or you are not American.

I fully agree, customisation is the key to replayability and to fairness between casual players and competitie players. Well done I hope the guys at bungie studios will take a look at this thread.

Thnx for the awesome sig Smyf!

and now it is my duty to completely drain you

For the most part, I like your suggestions, but some of them I find unnecessary.

-I don't think there is need for a visible health bar (I think it would slow down gameplay b/c people would wait longer for their shields to regen).

-Also, I don't think the BR spread should be customizable, but it should be reasonable (somewhere between H2 and H3) It should certainly not be a hitscan weapon, but the bullets should travel faster, be SLIGHTLY more accurate, and be released maybe a tiny bit more rapidly. What people don't realize is that the spread helps finish no shield opponents from longer ranges.

-Unless I'm mistaken, you can create custom powerup active camos that last longer/shorter, MLG chooses not to use this to avoid confusion (and the need to make a different gametype for guardian [the only camo map] games)

-I also don't think you should have 4 of each grenade, there are an abundance of grenades to begin with in H3...maybe 4 nades total, all frags or plasmas if you want, but not 8 total.

-I do agree with the need for smaller maps, but H3s best map is not on foundry. Although Onslaught is good, it is not nearly as good as Pit CTF or the versatile Guardian.

Good Post. I want as much customization in Halo Reach as possible. Round time, Max points, and speed have too big gaps in their alternations. It would be awesome to see a feature that controls even the smallest bits (like BR spread and Auto Aim) in the game. Forge needs an improvement, and there are numerous posts out there which show great solutions. Custom button control? Sure, why not?

Your post pretty much said anything I want for Reach, and I'm not even into MLG or competitive gameplay.

Great! i love to hear that out of somebody who is not interested in MLG or competitive gaming. Thanks for liking my post, I really hope a lot of people like it and it gets noticed by Bungie =)

MLG sucks dude...

Ah, the typical BNET kid.

OP is right on target. I really wish Bungie would have given us custom game options when Halo 3 came out that would lets us do things like tweak indivudial weapon stats, turn off dual weilding, adjust control physics so we can make the game feel just like CE, etc... but just another Bungie fail I guess...

Because these options are in the game, it doesn't mean you have to use them. I find these options completely necessary if Bungie plans to design the BR anything similar to Halo 3's. And because it's in custom game options only, those who don't want it don't need to use it.

Thanks a lot. And to the person who said Pit is the best map (which you're right on that actually), i guess i should have said Onsalught is a fan favorite. So many great games have been played on that map. But the point is Bungie needs to step it up and design a wider variety of maps, all of which should not be huge. Thanks for the responses guys.

I don't agree or disagree with anything you just said except for the Forge cube, and all the customization, which are not MLG make it more competitive stuff, they have no disadvantage, and help a lot of people, and so I agree with them. Everything else, I think I would have to try it before I could pass judgment, except that the spread needs to be there because otherwise, if you had good aim, you could shoot people from across the map with the AR, which would be more than a little bit unbalanced.

your asking way to much of bungie. like the 1% increments, what is that going to matter if you increase it from 90 to 91, practically nothing that you can actually tell, a 5 or 10% increase allows you to actually see what you have just done. allowing people to have 10x more ammo in the clip even in customs would be ridiculous, i wouldn't want to play a custom where they either have 42 rockets or continuously spray me with an AR for 2 minutes. your ideas in my opinion are a) retarded, and b) way out into left field because taking half this stuff out would upset half the community or so. plus if you want bungie to make such a huge change on a huge amount of starter maps, extreme wacky customs features, or crazy forge maps with no textures its going to take away from our online experience because bungie will need to have another team writing code to meet your demands while they could be working to improve multiplayer,

Just my two cents.

I am an avid gamer with a passion to keep games fun and strategy provoking, rather than simply button mashing instant-reward games that plague the market nowadays. I'm not kind, but I'm rational, fair, and maybe, just maybe, somewhat intelligent.

Considering I play LAN really often at a cybercafe and the double reload glitch, and bullet drop NEVER HAPPEN ON IT. And they ONLY HAPPEN ONLINE for me. I really don't think that argument holds Precedence. A LAN has a maximum ping of 8ms on a network with no blockage. And those glitches never happen at 8ms or less.

Sorry to say, but these glitches do in fact do happen. It could be a result with the equipment being used, but I have used that same set up and played Halo CE and there was no problems. It seems to be problem with Halo 3 internally. If you play LAN as intense as a lot of the MLG players around, most of them will tell you that it happens. In fact, during one Halo 3 MLG tournament, I believe Lunchbox, not sure who, had the rockets, and the double reload occurred and it caused him a death and the power weapon. Now, this glitch happened and thousands of people saw it, so it does happen. I could go find it to show you if I felt like it.

To the OP, I agree with everything he has said, except for that I am a little border line with removing the equipment. I thought that it was great that Bungie incorporated a new element into the Halo franchise, however, equipment does not fit into Halo's golden triangle very well if at all.

Go Yankees

Valid points. But...

The game doesn't come out for over a year; you could have taken some time to proofread the essay before you made the thread. You want all these changes to be made and demand to be taken seriously yet you fail to construct an even mildly comprehensible post. If this issue is that important to you, you could have at least given it the old "one over" or maybe had someone read it who has at least a third grade education in the english language. I'm not referring to using apostrophes (ie: wouldn't instead of wouldnt) no one cares about that. I'm talking about the stuff that makes it painful to read and hard to consider. Take this passage for example:

"...but sometimes its just too hard to play competitively with such a "nooby" and flawed game like Halo 3 (weather you guys see the flaws or not) that are in Halo 3. "

Read that outloud and try not to facepalm. And weather? sigh...

Near the end you demanded people "post maturely" in response. I mean c'mon now.
