"Your destruction is the will of the Gods....and We are their Instrument."

~Very first contact with the Covenant.

We all know the Covenant bask in the Forerunner Tech and the Halo structures and mooch off lost artifacts in thier conquest of the galaxy, assimilating any race they come cross -

except US.

Why is our race's utter evisceration the will of the Forerunner if so much of their eons-old crap is so tied to our species? Why do humans find themselves so easily adaptive to Covie and Forerunner Tech? ESPECIALLY the Spartans? We've all seen the MC utilize the Tru7h and Reconciliation's holopanels, and also doorway on Installation 04. There's enough evidence to generate a volume or two on Forerunner-Human theories...one of which includes our very heritage and ancestry.

So why is our DESTRUCTION their WILL? Why are the Covie hordes so content on our decimation?...

I think a largely-accepted form of intense jealousy, even ignorance, has fueled the Covenant into their campaign.

Maybe it is controlled by the Prophets and fed to their forces and underlings. I think it is this deception within the ranks that will play a part in the fall of the Covenant, if my theory is anywhere close to the tru7h.

I think there's some underlying SOMETHING to our existence that is somehow tied to the Forerunner that places US in the hotseat. i think it is US who are meant to reap the fruits of that left by the Forerunner. i think it is US who are meant to be their Instrument, in whatever fashion they saw fit.

And the Covenant are already so caught up in it, they find this fact unacceptable.

Then again, maybe we ARE the forerunner...(maybe the ever-present "time travel" excuse comes into play in finding Forerunner evidence in our history) and the Covie bastards don't find THIS any more acceptable.

Or maybe they just got over-sized medula-omblongatas. All dem teeth, 'n no tooth-brush.

Maybe i'm just st00pid.

Give y'all somethin to think about for a minute or two. XP

I believe that the Covenant are at war with us because they see us as if we are keeping the forerunner artifacts from them. On reach there was that fancy hood ornamate for their ships to go faster (Halo: First Strike). They see their precious artifact on that fortress world and they might have assumed that we were protecting it from them. Although I get the feeling there is more to it then that.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

HAH! Thats hilarious!

But good points...

For some reason I think it might be just a relatively empty threat. The term, covenant, is an agreement, right? Perhaps the Covenant plan to wear us down to a very weak force no longer capable of creating a good defense, and then ask us to join, or we face complete destruction (as the might've done with other races). If we joined, we'd be looked down upon more than the Brutes or Grunts (I'm not sure if the Brutes are that much looked down upon, but the Imperial Elite Guards were shocked when one was allowed to see the Prophet of Truth). I personally hope that if asked, whoever is present spits in their ugly faces. I'd choose martyrdom over a defeat like that.

Or maybe I'm just wierd...

Maybe... The Covenant is very religious and it would be hard to adapt to their religious beliefs. I don't think they would accept us if we didn't accept their religion. But it is possible to forcefully adapt us.

It may seem odd that they'd do that, but how do you think it happened with the other races? The Grunts are still looked down on with scorn, and often refered to simply as "gas-suckers." And even in our history, societies and "races" have been conquered and assimilated forcefully, more or less. Perhaps thats part of a point that Bungie intends to make in the Halo series (I don't know what the point would be, but maybe that fact is included in it)...

Im pretty sure they are called "Covenant" because the seperate races hold a covenant with each other to work together. There are several species of the "Covenant" (i.e. Grunts, Jackals, Elites, etc.).

have u even read the books? Its a religious war. Their gods wanted the human race anhialated. The stuff about mc guessing the right button on the halo ring was luck and u would know that if u read the books and remembered anything. We have no ties with the forerunners. The covenant gods want us extinct. That and humans are innovative but the covenant/ prophets are imitative. We are not near as technical and sophistically advanced by a long shot but that is because the prophets obtained the forerunner technology. Without that technology they would be as sophisticated as a single celled organism ( which means they would be nothing, they are not very good thinkers just imitate things kinda like a monkey imitates the tourist while they walk by. haha stupid brutes lol). innovative means if u don't already know is that we are resourceful and have the ability for critical thinking skills on our own not from forerunner technology.

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.
My Stats

Holy Toldedo! can there ever be an end to all our Forerunner speculation??? I've stated here on bungie that i think the forerunners are diretly linked to humans (even humans dressed up in huge MJOLNIR armor = mech suit = perceived by the Covenant as "Giants") and that time travel is probably part of the picture somehow. But really who knows??? (those tech hording, slowly-leaking-screenshots prohpets at Bungie do!!!) One of the reasons why I like Halo so much is that we don't have all the answers but we do have enough cool plot for us to sit around for months and months and speculate. If the story wasn't interesting to begin with who would care about who the forerunners were or what the Covenant intentions are.

It seemed obvious to me that Bungie might be trying to tell a story about "tradition vs. technology" or maybe "religion vs science". Or maybe just Grunts vs Marines vs God's giant hulla-hoops.... go marines.

Covenant want to kill humans because they are raciest. *snicker*

Seriously though, I think (personally) I have the entire Forerunner thing figured out, and I am content with the theory that I have conjured from current information. I maybe wrong, but it will keep me content until this Fall.

Unless, that is, unless someone comes out with a completely revolutionary idea. And I have yet to see one of those mythical beasts.

I don't think that it's quite as simple as anyone has yet thought.

I don't think that humans are the decendants of the forerunner, but that the forerunner created humans through genetic manipulation.

I believe that the Covenant are after humanity because their gods told them to destroy us, but I also think that the covenant's "gods" are simply it's heirarchy manipulating it's lower populace into believing that their own plans are divine.
It's been proven before that someone saying that thier message is "from the voice of god" can inspire an entire people into believing what they say. So I think that the heirarchy simply conviced the other "lesser" races that they were the god's messengers and that they should join them in their holy wars.

I think that ultimitely the covenant are after some amazingly powerful artifact hidden inside earth. Hell, the earth itself could be the artifact that the covenant are looking for.

But who am I to say what is and isn't. That's just what i think.

Or maybe alligators can make chicken pancakes.

I think it's pretty easy to say at this point that the Covenant aren't just headed to Earth to destroy it. We have something that they want.

It's been brought up a number of time in a number of places, but I honestly believe that the pyramids have something to do with the whole picture. Remember in the books when they talk about familiar symbols and things that look like ancient hieroglyphics on Reach and the other place where the SPARTANS first encountered the Engineers?

It would make sense to believe that the Forerunners left maps of the galaxy around at places they had visited. That, perhaps, is how the Covenant found out the location of Earth... The Forerunners had been here and left "directions". Just think about it; it makes a lot of sense.

It is also a flimsy idea of why the Covenant is out to destroy us. Maybe they found out we had a Forerunner installation on our home planet. What if, when they first encountered us, they saw our ships and technology and understood that we did not worship the Forerunners. Maybe they vie to kill all who do not worship those whom they do.

There are so many ways to look at the whole situation it can give you a headache. But it would make a whole lot of sense in believing the pyramids have something to do with it. It says in the books that a lot of the alien technology and installations we encounter are strangely familiar. That means it has to link back to something people have seen at one point.

The Forerunners definitely play a huge role in the Halo universe and I'm sure that Halo 2 will reveal more about them to us.
