Mods & Ninjas,

Okay guys. I've PM'ed goweb, Recon Number 54, and Stosh about this. I've e-mailed bnetmods@gmail.com. I got a single response from Stosh over the PM system saying: "Alright. Thanks for the heads up." But nothing has been done.

What am I talking about? Well, at the Maw, we've been having a small flooding problem. It seems almost everybody and their grandmother wants to ask the same question, but use different threads - "When is Halo 2 for PC Coming Out?" - except it usually reads like this:

"Omg!?! Bungy is s00000 sl0w! wen is h4l0 2 4 teh PC g0!ng 2 B released?!?! ! herd of tihs 1 guy wh0 h4s a leeked versin of !t!!!"

As much as it pains you guys to read that, it also ticks us off. Most of the regulars are tired of this stuff, so we've devised a plan to try to curb this... this... stuff. Now, our plan is to try to see if a mod could make, lock, and sticky a thread like so:

{
Halo 2 for PC Official News

Currently there is no official word as to if or when Halo 2 for PC will be developed or released. Any further developments will be posted here. Thank you for not posting rumors.
}

We think that would help. I've also sent an e-mail and PM'ed a mod or two about a guy who's really spamming the Maw. I won't get into that in as much detail, but I would appreciate the matter being looked into.

What strikes me as odd is that the only response I have recieved is from Stosh - and it implies that action will be taken, but I have yet to see any. If you guys think it's a bad idea - please just take five seconds to respond to me and say 'No'. It also strikes me as odd that nothing has been done about our spammer.

I know its summer and you guys working at Bungie need vacations and such, and I can appreciate that - believe me. But, has everyone gone on vacation at once? I still see Achronos around fairly often, but seriously - are we being ignored?

A couple of months ago, we came in here on a tirade and everyone resolved that the mods were still listening to us and were still helping us. I just want to make sure we still have that.

there is a thread that talks about constant multiple threads about the same topic. my verdict is that people just dont read the stickied threads. so, making a stickied thread about the halo 2 PC version, i atleast think, wouldnt work.

though, blacklisting and/or warning the spammer that you speak of would definetely be a good solution.

I don't think it would work all the time, but I think it would help some. At any rate, we all think it's worth a shot. All we really want, though, is an unambiguous response from the powers that be.

It is not just the Maw. In the Underground, we get more than half of the posts off topic, because everone and their extended family wants to complain about cheating, advertise clans, and talk about halo 2 stuff in the wrong forum.

But there are only so many mods, and only so much time they have. They do what they can, short of banning accounts solely for spam. But that wouldn't work because It is rarely the same people.

Most of these threads focus on H2PC - It belongs in our forums, but it's become a flooding problem. Your problems seem very eclectic, while ours, I believe can be controlled as they are more confined with some simple action.

btw - I noticed latin in your sig - nice.

It would seem that they would rather ignore us, though...

Honestly guys - If something can't be done about this, I'll probably leave. Most of the regulars are doing or have done the same thing. The Maw will become the Flood. But I won't have to suffer through it.

I realize we don't have rights and that there are only so many mods on these forums.

However, these forums are supposed to be a place to come hang and chill and discuss the games we all love - they're supposed to be fun - undoubtedly that was bungie's intent in creating them if for nothing else.

The Maw isn't much fun anymore as it stands.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I hre ya Spire and you did the right thing by posting this here. Its like the only forum the mods give a dam about these days.

I didn't realize when I made that post above that you jerks have been at the Maw, you've just been ignoring us and dissing our regulars.

whatever - you won't have Inspire to push around anymore.

1. If we were to make a sticky post, it would look official, which would be A Bad Thing since we don't know anything whatsoever about Bungie's plans.

2. People ignore stickies, so it'll continue to happen regardless of sticky or not.

3. Every other board has the problems that The Maw has. If I had a pound for every time a search feature has been asked about on this board, I wouldn't need my suck-ass job. But I've learned to deal with it, as have a lot of people here. I can only suggest that the Maw regulars do to.

We have. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't involve staying on Bungie's forums.

Good day, goweb.

The problem with the forums is too much "passing through" traffic. You can put in all the stickies and ban as many people as you want, you're still gonna get a hundred people passing through a day leaving stupid threads, and then forgetting about bungie.net forever and disappearing, only to be replaced the next moment by someone else.
How could the mods possibly hope to do anything about hordes of people who only visit the forums for a week out of their life?

they could try it and be optimistic - the Maw doesn't get the thoroughput that most other forums do...

But this matter is/has being/been handled. Thanks for your input and replies and take care.

Well I’m back from my short absence, I’ve been viewing most forums, but not posting,

As I think about it more and more I realise that there is a major dilemma when it comes to The Maw, the Halo PC forum. Basically there is no real difference to it then Halo for the Xbox, other than the lack of co-op, I've visited the library numerous times, as well I've seen me15ter there as well, and really that forum is better off than ours, anyways back to my main point, when people come to The Maw they feel like they cannot talk about general Halo, either that or they don't find that it is the right place to make a thread concerning Halo campaign or Halo in general, fortunately Halo is not the kind of game where you get hundreds of posts concerning "omg!@! I'm stuck, someone tell me where to go/how to beat the level/where the secret switch is!!” I’ve visited other games forums; I used to be a regular over at Splinter Cells forums until the SC: Pandora Tomorrow disaster and this was what spam was like there.

However, to take the place of this in The Maw we find more and more people asking technical PC questions, mostly not concerning Halo PC, but computer tech. help. The rest of the threads are concerning lag, and other qualms about the online play. As well as the constant banter about a theoretical Halo 2 PC.

Basically the dilemma is that The Maw feels out of place, it seems as though it concerns Halo PC, but really how different is this game then Halo Xbox? Any threads about the campaign, storyline Halo general etc. are made in The Library, thus, leaving only boorish technical help Q & A to our quiet forum, yes, it might be what we have to deal with, like the countless Halo posts in The Underground. But it's hard to have to answer all these threads, but it seems we have to answer them to keep the forum alive .

From time to time I try and make the most relevant threads i can, the one on the secret code on the back of the Halo PC box was popular, as was the ones I've made on my Halo PC easter egg searches. I think in order to better our forum we need to make more posts about Halo , not just computer stuff, And if all the regulars, can do this maybe other people will get the idea.

Look Inspire don't blame the mods, it's really the nature of our forum that brings about these issues, I don't want The Maw to be removed, but there must be some way to help it find its own little niche on the bungie.net forums.

anyways i finally posted it, the site went down before i could post it before.

1) The point we are trying to make is exctly that nobody knows anythig about Halo 2 Pc.

2) If even one person read the damned sticky and not "spam" the Maw would help.Plus I don't see how not doing anything about it would help. As you should know (from experience) reading an identical article (except for the slang and flaming tactics used) is annoying and boring.

3) I fail to see the relevance of point nr. 3.

Oh and adios amigo.....

1. the whole point of the sticky is to say that you dont know anything, and theres no point in asking

2. not everyone would read it, but it owuld help

3. you gotta start somewhere. who know, maybe even zanzibar could be spam free someday 0.o

Good thread guys... I'm happy to add a post to the Maw in regards to ongoing speculation about Halo 2 PC. Sure, plenty of the people who post the same thread every day won't bother to read it but maybe a few actually will.

As noted, our forums are generally a big mess. For "real" discussions, people often retreat back to the safety of their group forums.

While we do have a lot of plans and ideas on ways to improve the experience around here, unfortunately I'm not yet able to share any specifics or dates. At some level these issues will never go away, due to the insane volume of transient traffic that passes through our site.

My goal is to someday be able to weed out the riff raff and create a place where regulars can get into meaningful discussions with one another without even having to be subjected to a lot of the crap that ends up in our forums. In the meantime, we'll just keep locking, moving and deleting posts as needed and banning people who deserve it.

I think the only way people are going to learn is if the mods really bring the hammer down on the spammers and rule breakers, just until when the forums get to where the Bungie.net staff wants them to be.

The problem exists everywhere (except the Flood, because that IS spam). I think the problem in Underground is that it's right up the top of the list of links. The blind XBL hungry fools just click the top link, annoyingly.

I know that other forums have crap too, I just think the Underground has more. You see the front page lately? 12 posts in a row locked by Yoozel.

Good job by the way.
