Hello Everyone.

You know that in halo 3 Bungie was "trying" to make a decent spawn weapon for the game. The AR was good for beginners it was really awesome to use, the weapon sounded like a peashooter thougt but nobody cared about that when the game got released.

And then MLG came, and also players got more skilled at it, the phase where everyone is calling anybody they kill or get killed from a Noob or an ass. So The AR became the Noob symbol in higher ranked games. Every time i started a BR battle(which is over pretty quick now but then i had a little worse aim) and i had to reload i whiped out my AR and sprayed him dead.
In the Post game lobby i got called AR N00B and NoSKill. Which i didn't really understand in the beginning but i got like one of them pretty soon.

Now i understand that every gun in the game has a role(except for the spiker the update killed it) and the AR was a Spawn weapon which should hold you alive till you find something better to pick up. And here is my idea. The AR should be the spawn weapon in Halo Reach "again".
It should become more Accurate and it should deal more damage. With maybe a smaller Clip or something but idk.

I couldn't design a gun that is luckily bungies job so i hope they bring in the AR as a stronger and more "skill requiering" gun which means it should be a weapon of destruction in the hands of a good player but still a decent gun for beginners.

(and also i know MLG came before Halo 3 :P)

From what ive seen, the new silenced smg fills this role. It is stronger than the current smg and has alot of recoil. The recoil is where the skill comes in because its better to use short controlled bursts. I dont know the clip size but i would imagine its less than the AR. I hope so. I guess well have to wait and see how it works.

I always thought to myself "Halo with a Gears of War weapon change system is a good idea."

You start with a Magnum, a Battle Rifle, a Shotgun and an Assault Rifle. D-Pad controls weapon change (eg. Left Direction changes weapon to Shotgun).

Anyway, to the point. The AR was indeed Halo 3's spawn weapon, but new playlists and gametypes slowly hid it away. Slayer BRs, SWAT, Fiesta, SHwatguns, Swat Magnums... Eventually the Assault Rifle only shows up in Slayer.

Ahh, but here's the question: Will the silenced SMG be implemented in ODST? and if so, will it simply replace the existing SMG? I'd rather it did, ODST doesn't need 2 SMGs, and id rather they became something more than a spray-and-pray weapon that nobody uses. (if they can help it ^_^)

Don't you think the Silenced ODST SMG is a "whoever shoots first" gun?

No more so than the AR in my opinion. To be safe, maybe they could adjust it to do more damage when aiming for the head. This would add a level of skill.

If you use the AR properly you can beat battle rifle users easily at close range. Just use your AR like you would a BR, except aim for the center of mass, burst fire when neccesary, but continue strafing, jumping, ect. as you normally would. Its tempting to run in a beeline, but this is the quickest way to die.

The silenced SMG isn't going to see the light of multiplayer. Its a campaign only weapon for a reason, its very overpowered.

I'll try to be brief, but the main weakness of the SMG is it's huge spread cone, which makes it hard to keep the SMG efficient over a medium-close range (I use four ranges btw, Long, Medium, Close, and Melee, most people lump the last two together). The silenced SMG has a narrowed spread cone, much like the Spiker (who's major weakness is the slow speed of it's shots.) Its almost like combining both the guns to eliminiate either's weakness, so it would easily overpower all the other close range weapons and it's implementation would lead to the sandbox needing to be rebalanced.

You need it in ODST because you are a shieldless weakling fighting a bunch of shielded close range loving opponents, but when fighting in multiplayer it would be too powerful.

The silenced SMG would be PERFECT. Because it will get beat by the Battle Rifle at longer ranges, but it won't be as helpless against it as an assault rifle would.

make everyyone spawn with magnums it well force the unskilled to pick up wepons and the skilled well be able to use it.

Well in reach it could be adjusted so that it's not overpowered.

The AR is not overpowered in any way. You almost can't kill a good BR player in a medium range battle

The AR people don't want to use AR's... they want everyone to use AR's.

It's hard to find that "perfect" balance when it comes to spawn weapons because it depends not only on the weapon chosen but all the other weapons in the game and how they balance eachother out. If the BR didn't have the effective range that it has, or required a little more talent to aim at range, I think it would be a great spawn weapon. As it stands it's far too effective. The AR is a good compromise, but as the OP said there is this stigma that if you use an AR your some kind of terrible player. Personally i've always found the person who comes out on top to be the better player, but then again I don't place value in the opinion of a bunch of XBL tough guys.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

The AR is just a bad starting weapon, any map with long lines of sight or wide open areas with little to no cover need BR starts in Halo 3. As it stands the only maps currently that work well with AR starts is Cold Storage and Rats Nest.

Maps like The Pit, Standoff, Avalanche, Valhalla, etc are annoying to play on with AR starts due to the fact that if one team somehow manages to gain the upperhand you are screwed becuase the otherteam will just repeatidly spawn kill you from a distance.

ive got so bored of people complaining about ars or brs im sacrificing my k/d to make the pistol my most lefal wepon (make pistol the starting wep :P )

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Just give the Halo 3 AR bonus damage for shieldless headshots and a 36 round magazine.

i hope so because tha thing was reApe
i think youre all coming at the AR wrong cause what it needs is a throw back to halo CE just like most things in halo

here are my very refined and well thought out suggestions (i have a whole max post with this stuff but thats in the halo reach suggestion thread on the right hand bar

Halo Reach multiplayer wants and ideas.

ya the AR needs these things
1st a clip boost this thing needs to be a multiple engagment weapon where u can just keep shooting with it and not have to reload for a bit. DOUBLE its clp (4 lines of ammo)
2nd increase its effective range a shade so u can still chip away at those far away br's (if they even exist in reach) but not be lethal just a small threat.
3rd a damage boost (just a bit)

I like your suggestion, But i don't know how many people would complain about a "overpowered AR" which it would not be it would finaly be a match for the BR.

And i think i speak for everyone when i say "NO PISTOL THAT OUTGUNS ALL RIFLES"

I remember some one saying it was weaker because it's longer range.

That sounds like an overkill. The AR is already more powerful than a BR at close range. Giving it a power boost, more ammo, and longer range is not necessary. A longer range would be nice, and maybe an easier way to tap and single shot/burst like in Halo 1.
