I dont know if the physics engine can do this but like i said, its a radical idea.
Yeah, I've thought of that two, except:
1) Gravity wouldn't work on a construct so small, no amount of "Forerunners have got gravity machines" is going to explain away that one :)
2) Physics engine probably wouldn't handle it.
Would be fun though, but better if it was a mobius strip :)
Personally a map I'd like to see is a partially glassed city on Reach, with ruins of buildings everywhere, or I'd like to see painworld (or was it painland?), the alpine area that the Spartans trained at in Fall of Reach.
Dude, not to belittle you but there is a reason why the halo is in the shape of a ring. The ring spins so as to induce artifical gravity via centrifugal force. It doesnt matter what size your ring is, you just have to spin at the right speed to create 1 g of force.
I see, I was thinking that the map would be on the outside of the ring, where centripetal force wouldn't apply. The problem with having a mini-halo map is that you simply look up and begin shooting people on the other side of the map. Don't think that the physics engine can handle that one at all.
Plus theres also the added problem of jumping, and throwing grenades, which would not return to the ground in perfect arcs in a centripetal environment. Bungie explains this flaw away by claiming that the Halo rings also use forerunner gravity generators, or something like that.
And there is no centripetal force, its just acceleration on a tangent, there isn't some invisible force that keeps you on the ring :)
