[compromises, like a regular halo style playlist and a classes playlist. See, I just made the regular and class based halo fans happy.[/quote]

That's a lot of resources. Almost a complete remake of the combat system.
It would actually be very simple. You know Zombies? That's essentially a 2-Class game. Just make that more indepth, and add the ability to make numerous different player classes (and also teams with different classes) and you have a class based game any way you want. Bungie would balance them right. The only problem would be balancing the population between all of those playlists.

I don't understand why the OP has to be so blockheaded, especially with calling people whose opinions are different than his "idiots." I know if Bungie makes a class based game, then people (especially the OP) will love it because Bungie would know how to work it into Halo. Also, you can't see through your stubborness far enough to think of compromises, like a regular halo style playlist and a classes playlist. See, I just made the regular and class based halo fans happy.

That's a lot of resources. Almost a complete remake of the combat system. I can see a few problems with that. I mean idiots in a completely different way than you think. The ones that want Halo to be like other games need to correct their grammar. They also need to stop going outright and saying Halo should copy another game.

Halo did indeed copy other earlier games. The only difference is that Halo correctly adapted other game's aspects into its core gameplay. You make it sound like using ideas from other games is bad, when in reality that is how the video game industry works. You can't make a new game without using some aspect from past games.
Btw, They also need to stop going outright and saying Halo should stay the same.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Bobby start's with an AR and a Shotgun

While David start's with an Rocket launcher and a Spartan laser!

And Fred start's with an SMG and a BR.

Actually, if they created proper classes, they would pre-balance them to ensure there are no balance issues. For instance,

Bobby, would actually get an AR with 3-4 reloads, and a Shotgun with 2 reloads.

David would start with a Rocket Launcher with a single reload, and a Magnum with 3-4 reloads.

Fred would start with an SMG with 3-4 reloads, and a BR with 2 reloads.

If you want to check that out, you will find it is actually alot more balanced., in fact players will find themselves only using the Rocket class when it is needed (effectively whenever the enemy is using vehicles).

Mind you this is only considering Halo3's weapon balance is used.

Peace through superior firepower.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just saying that it may be hard to fit it in.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Reach will be a re-invention of the Halo universe as we know it. The Master Chief trilogy is over, you can already see the shift coming in titles like ODST, and can expect Reach to be a whole new experience.

Dont expect the shiny-textured sci-fi look in Reach. Expect realism, and gritty feel. Otherwise they wouldnt do a revamp of the engine as they are. They would simply redefine the Halo 3 engine. They are still working on the same console.

Where is it you are getting your information? Gritty and real? That sounds like gears of War, not Halo. Each has it's strengths, and Bungie will stick to their strengths.

As for the OP: Good show mate. I don't mind call of duty, but I'm not a fan of the classes and the ranking system.

I'm none to familiar with the games it supposedly copied, so I wouldn't know. All I know is that Halo was thought up and copyrighted before StarCraft (Some say Halo copied it, just because it came out first). Halo may have taken ideas, but using the word copy in it's various forms is such a negative suit. We're not saying they should stay the same, just that it should keep the core values of Halo.

as long as bungie makes reach we will not see a change but i was saying new weapon types would be nice and halo has its own rights alright to be a good game and im not going to say go play some other game that has that stuff in it i am just saying halo can make alittle more use out of the story line and maybe include some things from the book

That's probably a very likely approach.

MLG Cheewhaha pointed out the games that Halo used ideas from. What are the "core values" of Halo? How does a class system impede on its core values?

During the GT TV on ODST, in an interview with Joe Staten, Joe mentioned that Reach might have a bit of squad based gameplay without the baggage of a squad based game (something like that). How's that for changes?

I've recently seen many posts for Halo: Reach. In many of these many posts I've seen, some idiots want to make Halo more like Call of Duty or Gears of War. Halo is not either of these games. It is its own game, and should be treated as such. Call of Duty and Halo, sure they're both first person shooters, but there are many differences. Call of Duty has classes in which you can pre-set the weapons you will start with. Halo has weapon pick-ups. Call of Duty's classes can sometimes cause uneven gameplay at times. I've always seen a major problem with this. You're giving the better players the better guns. Gears of War is also very different from Halo. Gears of War is a "latching" third person shooter. This "latching" system would not work well, as Halo involves terraformed environment as seen on the halo rings. These environments aren't usually flat enough to allow for an appropriate latch. I can only think of one example where "latching" works in a first person shooter, and that's still only found in urban environments. This is in Rainbow Six Vegas. Gears of War deperends on this cover system. Halo does not, and will not if it is to remain Halo.

I could go on for a considerable ammount of time, but this seems to be enough. Please, keep Halo, Halo.

EDIT: Thanks for keeping this topic clean.

Just some criticism on that paragraph. You shouldn't just say Call of Duty, because earlier CoD games had weapon pickups in multiplayer, and CoD4 also has a classic mode which has weapon pickups.
Now my agreement paragraph starts. It's quite obvious that you can't implement part of a game, but keep out the other. People want classes, because they add that customization option. How classes help the CoD4 game is that people have a goal to achieve. In Halo, people don't usually go "must... get... colonel!" It doesn't change anything, however in CoD, when you get that rank, you might suddenly be able to use an AK47, or add a laser sight to your gun. However, if Halo implemented this, it would take away that balanced feel that everyone starts off on an equal field, and the only difference is skill. Gears of War cover system. This wouldn't work in Halo because it's an FPS . Gears cover works because despite the fact that your face is glued to a wall, you can still see around the corner. In Halo, no one would take cover because it would turn into a case of getting "caught in cover". You are in someone's sights, and you know that the moment you pop out of cover, you will have to find them, get your aimer on them and shoot. They will immediately be able to start shooting you. Cover just doesn't work in FPSs. Also, search bar :)

Squad based games translate into class based games. The loss of baggage would likely refer to the lack of need to switch from one member of the squad to the other.

Beware the smiley face! =D

I agree.

I'm not worrying. Bungie will stick with Halo's roots, they know thats the formula for sucsess.

So the new engine makes everything a shade of grey?

Anyways, I agree with the OP.

This thread doesn't just discuss a CoD class system, how about a battlefield type class system where all the weapons are already available to all the players? I'd say problem solved.

Why do you care? Do you really think Bungie doesn't know what they're doing, and that they're going to do something to screw their game up? Apparently you do, so lets get this on:

1. Change isn't a bad thing. Original games are hard to come buy because just about every other game has taken most of the ideas and put it into their game. Taking something from another game isn't the end of the world.

2. If Bungie does takes something from lets say CoD, they're going to adapt it to classic Halo game play, and make sure it isn't just like they copied it from another game. They're going to wrap it in sweet, Halo goodness.

3. They probably aren't going to have classes or whatever is working you up in the game anyway, so chill.

well said, Bungie knows what they are doing.

they certainly do, but they also know that recycling the same thing over and over gets old fast, so we may see some concepts new to the Halo franchise.
either way, we can just trust bungie to do the right thing.
