Subject: Funny thing about Reach : no Hayabusa & katana

I honestly think the katana and hyubusa are the -blam!-est things to hit the Halo Universe ever. (well besides the anime crap)

There's certainly a special thanks to Team Ninja in the credits, but that's all it is. It could mean anything. It could mean "Thank you Team Ninja for creating Ryu Hayabusa so we could base an armor off of him", it could mean "Thank you TN for putting a Spartan into DOA and helping to further our franchise." It's non-specific.

It's blatantly obvious where the armor came from, I'll admit, but the fact that I've never seen a physical statement or reference to a Ninja Gaiden IP copyright or actual " 'Hayabusa' is copyright of Team Ninja, all rights reserved, etc, etc.", and the fact that even toys have been made of the Hayabusa armor perm courtesy of McFarlane toys either means that they would have had to ask TN directly for permission to create it. That, or Bungie just owns the Hayabusa armor perm in the first place, and never needs to ask permission to use it again.

you might be right, they do own the armor perm, and since it's not a direct copy and past job of Ryu's helmet, then it's in theory not a steal. (however, do notice they do not say "hayabusa armor perm (c) Bungie, 2009 All rights reserved." anywhere either).

but again, it was implemented only because of TN adding a spartan in their own game. game companies don't go around adding characters from other games (particularly when it's not theirs... except for a few games (mario games and super smash bros for example), there was a reason for them to add that armor perm and it's not because they're huge fans of DoA, bouncy breast physics or NG.
I think it's the most important point besides the fact the armor (and character) that inspired the perm are under copyrights.

I am no lawyer and I don't think you are either, so I can' t really tell what they can do or not, but I'm pretty sure they can't use it freely. the toys are based on H3, which is why they have that perm.
