I'm thinking, as a new gameplay feature for campaign, if you sneak up behind a large enemy such as a hunter of an elite, instead of assassinating, you could have an option to "grapple". This is similar to the boarding mechanic from Halo 3 (hold button to hijack), but instead of forcibly ejecting someone from a vehicle you climb up onto their back or armour.

From this position you are exposed to enemy fire but you can ride up on them and rain blows onto their head or unprotected areas. This isn't taking out the assassinate option, just adding another one. What do you think? How can we refine this idea?

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

Yeah, no that's a horrible idea. Just snap their necks or jam a shotgun into their nape.
By the way, have you been playing Arkham Asylum recently?

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

This idea ranks right up there with being able to weild two energy swords. Cool to look at but no practical application whatsoever. An elite military force, Spartans or otherwise, wouldn't be interested in turning an enemy into a mode of transportation or exploitation.

i guess it does go for style points more than for kills. BTW i didn't mean ride as in a mode of transport, you would just hold on as it flails about, then get an instant kill. And no, I haven't played Arkham Asylum, and I didnt know this was a feature in it. Sorry if I seemed like i was trying to meld to games together, like some try to do with COD and Halo...

Nihilism (from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

Put simply in the words of Nietzsche as "the will to nothingness".

I'm not really sure what you are trying to get at, I'm picturing a Spartan climbing on the back of an Elite for a piggyback ride. Well don't mind me but that seems pretty useless when you can just assassinate them.

How about depending on the weapon you are currently holding the assassination looks different. For example with the sword you just run them through or slice their necks or what have you and with a needler use the top of the gun and jam all of the needles into them and so on and so forth with the rest of the weapons in cool and satisfying ways. Just my two cents.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I would accept an assassination animation, like your hands snapping the neck of brutes or grunts and jackals, but that is it.

This I would not mind one bit, a little added brutality for the sake of realism.
