Textures were good actually (very high-res and detailed), they just needed more depth and variation.
However the main problem with the look is that the game lacked high-poly models.
Almost everything was relatively blocky for a next-gen game, but not too noticeable.
Still it's a notable improvement for Reach.
Bungie already said the visual leap from Halo 3 to Reach would be that of Halo 2 to Halo 3.
Was hoping more of a "Halo 1 to Halo 2" leap, but the leap from Halo 2 to 3 is no slouch either.
I'm expecting big improvements, but don't expect Gears of War graphics or anything that can realistically rival the graphical heavyweights because Halo is a resource-heavy game.
Imagine how much projectiles, colours, particles, etc happen every few seconds in an average Halo game.
Look at those mad custom games with rockets, fuel rods, grenades going off everywhere. Gears couldn't handle 4 grenades going off at once let alone all the mayhem and particles that Halo has to deal with every second.
What other shooter has as many explosions, particles and chaos going on at once? Hardly any because they sacrafise that for graphics (or in most cases that isnt' what the game is about).
Still, that chaotic fun and intense gameplay is what Halo is known for, and it needs to sacrifice graphics so it can handle so much going on at once.
All im saying is that the graphics will be a notable improvement from Halo 3, but don't expect anything that can match the graphical beasts of today.
