Subject: Limiting Map remakes

Ok to begin with please don't just spam BLOOD GULCH FTW or other things like that (believe me I don't want to start a remake thread).
There are many classic maps in all the halo games, however in halo 3 there were too many bad map remakes.

Avalanche was a prime example of this. Yes it was good that it was a large map, however it just wasn't sidewinder and seemed like it was trying too hard. As a map I just don't think it was fun to play, especially the passage through the middle as it was just a campers paradise.

I have a few ideas on how to limit the amount of remakes.

The simple option: One map from Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3

However this plan is slightly flawed, we need to also take into account:
1.Whether It's a large or small map ( They play very differently) *
2.Whether they work with Reach gameplay.
3.Whether they have been remade on previous halo games.

1.E.g. Battle Creek is fun and a lot of people will probably want it in Reach, Death Island was also on CE (even though it was only on the PC version) but played very differently and appeal to a different type of gamer.

2.E.g. Hang 'Em High was a great map but if reach doesn't have fall damage then it would play very differently. Blood gulch would not work in another halo.

3.E.g. Lockout was remade on Halo 3 as Blackout, Midship as Heretic etc.

Bungie needs to take these 3 important factors into consideration before doing any remakes.

A good idea is to base a map on the strenghts of other maps e.g. Valhalla was similar in layout to Blood gulch but was made to fit Halo 3's gameplay.

The main point I'm trying to make is Bungie should assess which maps would work the best in Halo: Reach MP.

THE GREATEST SOLUTION OF THEM ALL: No map remakes.
(I stand by my comment, but even so I would still like to see an adaptation of Death Island and Battle Creek.)

do you know why people want remakes so badly? honestly?

because the previous maps were great. the maps in H3 are bad and average.
wanting remakes is nothing more than saying "ok, enough with the new crap that we don't like anyway, stop wasting time and resources on average content, and redo what everybody liked and what has been acclaimed by the community, so even if we know these maps already, we're assured to have plenty of fun on them regardless of their originality, and ultimately, that's why a map is good : because it is fun".

so unless bungie finds their genius spirit back and make maps that were as good as death island, beaver creek, blood gulch, and all other classic maps, they should stop with new content.

who is to decide what gets re made and when? The people who make it or the people who play it?

My third montage!

Danger Canyon. Please bungie seriously consider this. Out of all the Halo CE maps (yes I know it was on the PC version only) It's the one I really think would work well with Halo 3's play style. I can't say how it would work for Halo: Reach for obvious reasons. That map as well as Timberland, Death Island are amazing to play on.

obviously, the people who play it.
what if the 100 devs love a map everybody hate? it'd be a horrible move to remake it instead of a liked map.
what would you do if they remake isolation or snowbound (with shield doors) and then tell you "well, we had the choice between isolation or bloodgulch... we chose isolation because we like that map moar. screw you if you dont like it."

They should design maps similarly to the classic maps, but remakes usually don't work if the gameplay is changed.

standoff and valhalla are clearly inspired by coagulation ... yet, they're not half as good.
the gameplay hasn't changed as much as people say, coagulation could have worked well on h3.

in H2 there was all the weapons that were on H3, with minor stats change (except for br/rocket launcher locking and plasma pistol against vehicles) ... the only real gameplay differences are equipments and support weapons. the rest is minor changes.
and coagulation worked extremely well on H2. so I believe it would have worked well enough in H3 too.

Yes Inspired by, but they were made to be different maps.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I want the exact opposite.

I want EVERY Halo Shooter map remade into Reach.

What do you mean. Avalanche was an amazing remake, I actually think I like it more than Sidewinder (putting nostalgia aside)

Cold storage and Last Resort were great, and Blackout was decent too.
