What I HATE about Halo 3 is that the ranking system is based off of wins, not kills and that's why the CoD ranking system is so spectacular. You could get 30 kills in a Slayer game while a couple of your other teammates are not playing (like eating a sandwich or taking a dump that lasts the enitre game) which causes you too lose, you did great but you still lost XP or went down a skill level.

Do you think that this should be fixed in Reach so we don't face these problems?

Yes, but you cannot actually say that you have never faced this problem. Change is okay, especially if it's for the better.

I'd rather simply have it like in H2.
best ranking system ever. no cheater and boosters.

but kills is good too I guess. harder to boost.

modders =/= boosters.
I meant you never saw someone using ductape on their controllers like people sometimes did in H3 to get points. or people selling their acounts.

I meant cheaters - point boosters. not cheaters modders.

So... hold on one mother -blam!- ing second. Rewarding individuals for carrying teams would... turn Halo into Call of Duty and Battlefield? Why the hell do people like you post on these forums? You have no logic.

On topic. Yes. It would be great if we were rewarded for more than just wins. Of course we should get an extra bonus for winning since the game is about teams.

But let's say you lose. Like in H3 you still lose no EXP, but if you happened to do about as good as the people on the winning team you would still earn some EXP, not getting completely shut out because of some noobs on your team.

If you are on the losing team but get MVP and do the best in the whole game you could potentially earn the most EXP in the game, even if you didn't win (for example, you go 25-3 but still lose, you still deserve lots of EXP).

Some potential break-downs.

Betrayal -2 EXP
Death -1EXP
Assist 1 EXP
Kill 2 EXP
Headshot 3 EXP
Stick 4 EXP
Double Kill 4 EXP
Won the match 20 EXP
Quit the match -20 EXP

Maybe 200 EXP would cause you to rank up early on; something like that.

Freedom is an illusion, conducted by the leaders of the world.

Sapere Aude - Victory within' reach.

I Absolutely agree that playing good should be rewarded, even if you lose. There's nothing more irritating to realize you're going to lose points because of your teammates not caring/plain being bad at Halo.
On the other hand, this should not be overdone. Achieving a 50 in Halo 3 was way to easy. Adding your suggestions would make this even easier. So while they have to implement some kind of bonus/reward for actually playing good, even if you lost (this has another great effect, namely decreasing frustration on MM), they also have to motivate playing in a team.

Because if they do not, you'd have all these Lone Wolves getting into Team Slayer, not putting in their mic and just do their thing. Not very appealing I might add.

NO. If you make a system that rewards in game stats, you will increase the amount of stat whores to a ridiculous level. If leveling is based on kills, then everyone will want the power weapons, and betraying for weapons like the sniper rifle will become even more prevalent.

Wins, losses, and the levels of the people in the game should be the only thing considered when leveling up or down.

Dont underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Except Bungie could make it so betraying took away lots of points so there would be nobody betraying for Snipers to get kills.

It still wouldn't work. You would have everyone rush for the sniper all the time, and then you would have people who would try to mess someone up who has the weapon either by standing in their way or shooting them but not killing them. People would focus only on getting a lot of kills and not actually helping the team.

No one likes stat whores, and a system that rewards in game stats is only going to encourage selfish gameplay.

I am the hand of fate!

It should be based on wins, kills, and other things. As long as it's not the crappy system it is now.

Then it looks like Bungie better remove Objective Gametypes.

  • 09.16.2009 12:52 PM PDT

You should get more points for completing objectives in objective gametypes so that people focus on that rather that just trying to get kills.

  • 09.16.2009 1:00 PM PDT

halo is a game of skill, most people need to earn their levels not just play 10'000 some games so they can get 2 kills every game and finally level up while their k/d spread is 0.000001 or something. this system is not broken. what i would like to see however is a bar for all ranked play lists that shows how many game you need to win and will go up if you win and down if you lose so you can see hope close you are

I know for some special reason though Halo has them.
I rather have a ranking system with kills than wins. Would it be like 1 point for 1 kill? We'd have to through the idea around a little bit to get a better scope.

Anyways another idea. Maybe for capturing a flag or getting an overkill or something you get a bonus point.
