I want either a hitscan BR or the original Halo CE pistol back. A really versatile mid-long range weapon that could be used with MLG settings. NOT some terrible spread/non hitscan BR that requires the user to lead players from 15 feet. (It's a rifle from christ's sake.)

Where's the "neutral" option?

  • 09.17.2009 10:03 AM PDT

I'm a Creative Director in charge of branding, web design, marketing, and advertising. I'm also branching into the video game industry as a few of my clients have asked me to create game covers, packaging, ads, and promo items. I'm also an editor at www.gameobserver.com and I've written numerous reviews that have been featured in a few sites. Design, Art, and Games are my life they are who I am. See you online . . .

Halo Reach is a prequel to Halo Combat Evolved and to maintain historical accuracy Bungie would have to remove the BR from the weapon list based on Combat Evolved. However removing from the campaign would be fine for most, but if your following the books the BR could stay VIA Contact Harvest. And mainly due to the popularity of the weapon in multiplayer the BR will most likely be in the game.

No, It wouldn't even work with the storyline. The prototype BR is introduced at Harvest. Waaaay after Reach.

This poll needs a "I don't care" option.

I think that it is the balance BETWEEN the BR and AR that is lacking, for instance, the AR owns almost everything at close range and it is commonly used to rush forward without any sort regard for the users life.

While the BR is usually left uncontested in its medium range. The Carbine is not effectivly on par with the BR and as such usually loses in a medium range contest.

Now I think that weapons should be added as alternatives to these weapons. Weapons need to be added that can contest (but not always win) in a close quarters fight with an AR. Same thing for the BR. I always thought that the scoped SMG from ODST would be a great weapon to cunterbalance the BR.

Well, I hate to break it to all of you Die hard BR fans, but...

If you go through the stories and such, the BR was actually introduced about the middle of First Strike, Contrary to that, the prototype BR was in use by Johnson in Harvest.
So, Techniqually... The BR would not be in the game unless it were a prototype or Bungie decides to put it in just for kicks. This could be one of those "Up to Bungie" Things...

But just saying, The BR wont be in Reach, for the Conflicting Story reasons.

I agree. 'Tis an Up to Bungie thing, so stop arguing.

I'm a rising star...I keep on gettin better and thats just how it is!!!

Voted: Yes

I would like the Battle rifle back, however think outside the box for a second...

Regardless of the whole multiplayer related issue, Odst had the BR removed for two reasons which were stated at the PAX.

1. (unsure of his name) One of the weapon designers didnt want it in there. (cant see why but fair enough) =S, which brings on to the second reason...

2. >... No BR More variety and choice in weaponary, People will at some point or another moan that Halo isnt the same without the BR. Now for all those people think back to halo 1 or even halo 2's campaign. If you ran out of the legendary AR ammo you were at some point forced to change weapon which was a similar if not the same case in halo 2 with the BR and snipe. Now this is purely for campaign lovers...> How good were the campaigns in that state of weapon choice where every battle almost required a different weapon of choice?

Personally as good as the multiplayer is, The campaign made Halo what it is!

Great game Bungie and Cant wait till REACH!

BR MUST BE IN HALO REACH ITS WAT MAKES HALO SO FUN WITH PISTOL IT JUST WONT BE THE SAME

  • 09.17.2009 1:57 PM PDT

4 shots = 12 bullets landed

Make it a 2 shot weapon instead of 3, and then have it take 6 shots to skill. 6 shots x 2 = 12 bullets landed

Ok, i'll bite, please explain to me how a controller (the thing in your hand) mod affects weapon accuracy which is governed by the game software.
holding the trigger down makes for bullet spread.were as a controller mod makes it that you can hold the trigger and the controller rapidly sends the information.which means that the spread will not increase like a fully automatic gun. go play halo and tap the trigger on the AR.then hold it.there is already a great difference just there :)

So your telling me that a weapon that suffers little spread as it is within close range, will dominate due to a controller mod that makes the game think it's firing in shorter burst to lessen spread? Are you seriously selling that?

Something like this would be dangerous if the spread affected the weapon. If you aim center mass with an AR at close range you will nat even miss your target with a single shot. Your "controller mod" would make sense for something like an SMG or even the BR, but again that spread is not affected by input, it's governed by the games software.

Even if the mod your talking about exists, it would hardly bolster the AR. The though of AR domination due to a controller mod is hilarious.

The BR is the ultimate "go-to" weapon in Halo 2 and 3, and that is why I think it should not be included in the weapons sandbox of Reach.

What I like about Halo CE is the fact that every weapon had it's own strengths and weaknessess, and although that is still true by Halo 3, by then the BR had over-taken most weapons in main useage, as a decent player is able to take out most players whatever the situation (in combination with grenades) by using it, thus negating the neccessity of having most other weapons in the sandbox at all.

When it comes to multiplayer I am neutral towards MLG, I neither like nor dislike it. From what I hear their gametypes are all geared towards teamwork and such, and by taking out the BR the teams would have to rely heavier on teamwork, and have a better knowledge of what weapon works best in what situation, rather than relying mainly on the BR and grenades like they seem to now.

Taking out the BR would enrich the campagain experience for the same reason, and I suspect that is the reason why Bungie took it out of Halo 3: ODST.

I'd like to point out that I'm no AR fanboy by any means, and I think that the Carbine should be kept in, alongside possibly the Automag from Halo 3: ODST.

  • 09.18.2009 2:32 PM PDT

I want it back for multiplayer as it's a very enjoyable weapon to use but I definately do not want it in the campaign.

In anticipation for ODST I thought I'd try running through the H3 campaign without my trusty BR.
I am so glad I did.

Playing the campaign without the BR makes it about 200x more fun. Particuarly in conjunstion with the famine skull. It makes you use weapons that you would normally disregard. I'd never realised before just how interesting all the other weapons are.
I've discovered new ways to use the SMG and AR. The carbine is my new best friend and I've even got the hang of using the plasma pistol.

Also, without a standard long range weapon, sniper ammo becomes infinately more valuable. You really have to make sure every shot is a headshot.

Most peple agree that H1 had the best campaign experience and I think I've discovered why. Without the BR, everything gets much more exciting because you have to get up close and personal with the enemy.

I like the BR and would love to see it make a come. However since reach takes place chronologically before the implementation of the BR I doubt it will be included in the game.
THe BR has been in the Halo series since Contact Harvest which was before Reach

OK, how many people actually use one of those mods? I'd say less than 1%. I know well over 100 people who play halo and none of them use this mod you're talking about. This glitch affects such a small minority it's hardly worth bothering about. There'll always be someone cheating the system somehow. Deal with it.

I think the Battle rifle should be in the game, only if you get in near the end or the second half of the game... since Chief didnt get it til after Halo (even in zee books). Thats if the game even reaches that far in the timeline!

  • 09.18.2009 3:20 PM PDT

I thought the BR was still in developement? They only had a prototype I think, and that was on Harvest.Either way,I honestly don't care much.

  • 09.18.2009 3:23 PM PDT

If it ain't my chair, it ain't my problem. That's what I say.

halo 1 pistol and AR will be back or i will be extreme SAD FACE :(

  • 09.18.2009 3:25 PM PDT

If the br returns i would like it to be more on halo 2 side
It not it wont kill me. What will kill me is it they dont bring another balanced rifle
Make a rifle thats shoots like the hammerburst in gears. Its my opinion
The br balanced the game. It made snipers back off and people charging run away
The ar was a spray n pray oped weapon. Especially with h3s melee system
If they bring back h1 pistol that would be great as well.

I saw a guy on page 1 that posted saying the halo:ce pistol took 6 or 7 shots to kill
ROFL it took 3. what would you rather have?
Me 4 shot you in 4seconds or 3 shot in 2 seconds LOL

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Any sane player (no, I'm not calling those who want it back insane) wants it to be removed.

I have played a ton of games, and Halo's BR is the most repetitive, overpowered, and boring one of them all. Yeah, even worse than CoD4's Barrett .50 cal.

^ Yep. It wasn't until after the battle of Reach was pretty much concluded that a stash of prototype weaponry was found, introducing the Magnum and the Battle Rifle to the Spartan team on Reach. So if there are to be BR's at all, they won't be in your hands or there will be extremely limited supplies and they may function differently.

Read my thread on the matter :)

The BR may unfortunately be around for a few levels in Reach.

It won't be unfortunate, as long as they stick to canon and find a good way to have it make sense. If the game goes from the begging of the battle of Reach to when they leave reach in First Contact, then that is fine by me.
