1)It would begin with you creating your charecter, you, living in the slums of some colony world (chosen by the player). You would be conscripted into the UNSC on recruitment day as a marine.
2)From here your training would begin, you would have to make choices, like going down being a pilot, or an engineer. Only the best of the best could become ODSTs. You would have to perform real feets of bravery in conflicts to be promoted.
3)I think it would only work out if it had a good sense of character development, like in Oblivion or Fallout 3, so you really feel like he/she has grown into a real Marine over the course of the game.
4)You would never become a Spartan.
Kal has the idea man. Like I said in my earlier post, the game should be based on actual feats of "bravery" and such.
1)I was thinkin along the same things for a Halo RPG, but I'm not sure how they'd do the time progression. I mean living and entire life would be nuts, especially if the time progression was based on actual time. It would probably have to be more like Fallout. Except w/ more decisions that would change how you would develop as an Adult (like spore's carnivor/omnivore/veggy aspect).
2)Liked this idea too. Going through like Core training then having it progressively become specialized would be the way to go like you said. Maybe add in some kind of skills to make it feel more like and RPG ya know? For instance Computer use, perception, strength, stealh, and combat expertise. Each being developed based on what you want to be.
3)Character development would be a big thing for sure. No development and the game would be toast...
4)I can understand why you'd say no one could become a Spartan, but most of fans see Halo as Spartans kickin Covy butt. I think if the player was allowed to choose what time period they'd start out in, then Spartans would be okay to have. But like I said in #1 it'd probably have to depend on what decisions they chose as a child. If they did something that made them excell over others like the Spartans from the book had, then they'd be stolen away in the night and developed into Spartans like a normal player would be developed into a pilot or Marine through training. The Spartan path would just be more dangerous and tough for the player.
