I'm just wondering exactly what kind of armor they had during the events of fall of reach? I'm mainly curious about if shields are making a comeback.

They got shields before the fall of Reach (event not book).

in Fall of Reach, they all had MK.V armor. in the later parts of the battle they had a mix of MK.V and the newer one (forgot the number)

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Spartans recieved Mark V armor right before the attack on Reach. During the skirmishes there (not covered until First Strike) a few of them recieved prototypes of newer model components. By all rights shields will be present, but keep in mind that we do not know whether or not this game will take place solely on Reach, or what it will be about totally.

Interesting that you should mention the enhancements. I'm surprised that they never mention them in any of the later fiction. Having double shield strength, or increased speed would be something I'd think would be significant enough to use later in storytelling.
I also think that they'd make an interesting mechanic for a squad based game. Sort of like the xbox game Brute Force. Each character performed essentially the same, but also had specialties within the group. Plus drop in/drop out co-op is just awesome.

True, I think it would interesting to see that in Reach. Given the fact it may be a squad based game, it is a good chance that they could have those cool little enhancements.

In the books, the main Spartans had MkIV and V I believe.

But apparently in Spartan Black, there were Spartans with MkVI before the Fall of Reach.

I AM AN MLG PRO

I think the upgrades to the Mark V Armor would work perfect if it were that Reach is going to in fact a squad based FPS. Level your character to gain new armor upgrades to customize your Spartan to your liking. In Halo 3 the armor was purely cosmetic, but I would love to see how they would implement options that changed the skills and strengths of your character.
