Subject: Deliver the brutality of war, Bungie. Please...

Ok, to get things started I would like to begin saying that Halo 3 is just terrible when it comes to making you feel like you are in a real war between Humanity and a race of aliens driven to destroy us, so pretty much in all of the games of the Halo triology Bungie has failed to deliver the brutality of a war. No funny comments, no bright shiney days, etc.

Although Marines aren't as good as a geneticly augmented super soldier, they should be able to kick ass and take names (which I have heard many Marines in Halo 3 say but they just can't do it), by this I mean they should be able to shoot with a great amount of accuracy, they shouldn't look clueless on the battle field, they should act like a real MARINE would in those situations.

Now lets move on to dismemberment or in other words, gibs.

GoW has been able to present this, and CoD also has in World at War, so why not Halo? Not exactly to the extreme like what Gears of War did, but something a bit smaller.

Example:
Shot in the arm with a sniper. It gets blown off.

Sound good?

I agree the brutality of the Covenant should be displayed. I think Reach is a perfect oppurtunity for this. Since the planet is in the process of being glassed, a post apocalyptic and more brutal side of Halo could easily be examined. Dismembering people with the Energy Sword would be immensily satisfying too XD

i want to see it like what i saw in the halo 3 vidocs where the brute took the body and crushed him and threw him like that one brute did on sierra 117 mission or that other seen in the vidoc where the brute ran into the marine and smashed him into that piece of rubble

afaik, halo is rated R in the usa, isn't it? (in france, is it forbidden to anyone under 18... supposedly).

since they have that rating... why not actually make the most out of it and actually have SOME blood? or real marines? today's swats are 10000% more effective than marines in the future. wth?? marines should act more like in CoD. like real marines, not civilians with uniforms and guns.

The way the AI behaves in CoD or the way the game is played are nothing close to real life.

i can understand if they suck since they didn't have much training since the covenant came to earth but at least some should be good unless all the good marines were killed by then

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

For some reason Bungie removed dismemberment from Halo 3.

yea, they take cover, blindshoot, peek and don't stand still in the open.
it's SO unrealistic.

  • 09.17.2009 3:18 PM PDT

Blindshooting is highly impratical in real life, its a waste of ammo. and the AI frequently rush at inoppurtune moments.

  • 09.17.2009 3:23 PM PDT

I agree with the brutality of war. I would personally like a huge final battle with tons of marines and ton of covenant like thousands, bungie should end their halo campaign with a bang.

The game was easy enough, if they made the Marines super good, the chief would look pathetic next tot hem,a nd players wouldn't get a chance to kill enemies. Ever heard of "balance issues"? Cause that is what they are doing

  • 09.17.2009 3:53 PM PDT

Agreed the brutality should raise a bit.

  • 09.17.2009 4:01 PM PDT

If you guys want brutality or more blood...go join the military and go to the Middle East...you can see it for real and get your fill of it. If you come back alive..I doubt you will want to play it in a game.

What makes halo good is it is different then the others. Do you need a pool of blood after you kill somebody to really enjoy it?

If you do, then maybe bungie can add the families and children mourning the loss of those that are being killed. Then it will be really realistic.

Well said. As he says, why have blood (particularly as it does), when you don't need it, even if it isn't realistic.

Also, why would you want to shoot hte arms or legs off? They're easy enough to kill as it is, without them being weakened by that. Also, if you want that, go play flood levels.... hell, you can watch their hands rolling across the floor once you have destroyed them.

glad to see I am not alone in NOT getting off on gratuitous violence.

Appreciate the comments

Medics were evacuate on Sea craft. (Read Halo 3 ODST field guide, medpack). Also, in the level Crows nest, Tsavo Highway and the Storm you get to see hundreds of wounded marines, in the level Crows nest, the most dead marines ever generated as decoration are there, and you get to see marines getting thrown across rooms, crushed, smashed and all that.

On the level FLoodgate you can even get a marine in hysterics afte rkilling his squad mates because the flood had infected htem... Lucky you.

Oh and better yet, you get to see marines and aliens get infected by infection forms, watch the flood burst out of htem, watch them writhe in pain. MYself I tend to kill the infection forms if I can, and if I can't, I kill the marine before the transformation can really get started...

Those wanting the brutallity probably let there allies get infected, love watching the flood crawl around under their skin, or shoot their allies to watch the blood burst out of the body.

No. It's a damn game dude. GTFO.
Dismemberment, better AI for the marines, and swarms of Covenant would be great. Especially the swarms of Covenant. After all, they have not one, not two, but over FIVE different species in their ranks. Earth alone has over 6 billion people, so imagine OVER FIVE species attacking one planet.

Should of been more like that from the beginning IMO.

Not all of us can join the military by the way and video games are there for us to do that type of stuff instead of doing or seeing it in real life okay and war should not be in the modern world now adays but this war is only going on because a conspricy and that's why i do not want to die in the middle east for a corrupt goverment.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Well, maybe not shooting off the arm, but we need much more blood.
The amount of blood in Halo 3 was equal to a T game, Halo 3 could have been rated T for all I care.

More blood, and the Covenant should have some kind of torture scene.

I'm fine with marine AI, but you don't want them super, the marines are supposed to be beaten by covvies easily, only way to portray that is to make either the covvies too powerful, and thus to make you seem better, get you super powerful, or just leave them as they are.
More covvies, would be great, I could have fun against a horde of them, for those people who can use xboxlive, you get that in ODST... called "Firefight", better yet, you can make marines look good, by being one

Wrong. Marines in the books actually kicked ass. The only advantage the Covenant had over the UNSC was technology and sheer numbers.
And like I already stated, make the AI better for both the Covenant and Marines. But make the Marines better then the Covenant, but to balance it out have the Covenant swarm.
