Subject: Get rid of Equipment?

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

Keep equipment and add more. It adds an x-factor to any encounter and makes the games more interesting.

I swear there is a group of people that would like to play in a round room and see who can out BR/pistol each other all day and all night. Oh yeah, midship. I guess give them a playlist of what they want.

However, give the people who want intersting battles with more vehicles, unique maps, more weapons and equipment, and more options the variety they want.

It's like a double edge sword. I don't like equipment. But I don't want to see another X button thread as much as the next guy. So I can't win. I LOOSE.

about equipment...
When I shoot someone to death and they deploy a Regenerator, I feel like like an idiot who just wasted my time. Com'n everybody has seen that moment where one guy pulls out the regenerator and the guy on the other end just stands there and gets killed. As if the player dropped (an Fbomb maybe) his controller in digust. That player was ME!
And power drainers are the easiest ways to always have someone killed.

Equipment is over powered junk. Oddball is now bubble sheild ball. How boring?? Get rid of this stuff.

100% Agree! Orbital is the best example for that :/
Pls bungie,no Equipment in Reach i want to own that -blam!-s in Reach.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

What's the matter with Equipment? It makes you think, something most Matchmaking players are woefully lacking.
It adds tactical variety. It is also optional.

I would either like equipment to be removed, or for them to be turned into beefed up grenades with numerous functions (such as an EMP, time warp, flashbang, etc.) which operate as speciality grenades which can be equipped by pressing a button on the Dpad. Deployables should not last for a long time as they do in H3. Just a brief flash so that they need to be calculated more carefully.

Make the X button used for melee combos. Melee once, press X at the right time, and you can melee again. Time it right, though, or you won't be able to do anything for a second or so like when you mis-time your active reload in GOW.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I'm sorry, did you honestly just say return the BXB? Their would be too many glitches in the process. Using the X button as an animation cancellation would just allow other glitches like BXR, RRX, and my personal favorite, RRXYYXRRX (The infamous quadshot, 1 burst BR kill) to return.

These were all ridiculous, and made Halo 2 infinitely less enjoyable.

Nope. If it came back it would no longer be a glitch. If it didn't cancel animations, only linked together a melee after it is complete, it would not cause more glitiches. I would love for a melee combo to be implemented in REACH like was originally intended in the Halo 2 E3 Demo.

I know we discussed this already, but as of now, I am convinced that those 3 melees only had the power of a single, regular Halo 2 melee, and were all just part of the animation (so a single press of B did that, not multiple), this was probably later removed because long animations like that wrecked the Halo theme of quick, fast actions that don't require long, annoying animations. Just one quick movement for everything you do.

NON of the stuff from Halo 3 or 2 ought to be in Reach- because it was before everything. so yeah :/

also because it's better

Ignorance leads to fear, fear lead to hate, and hate has ruined this world.

Regardless of whether or not it was meant to be a multi-part melee, where you had a small window to time the next press of a button, or it was just a really long animation I still think that it would be a good idea to have something that could both distinguish who the better player was, and allow more variety in gameplay.

In fact, why limit it simply to the melee's? Incorporate the same idea with reloading, recharging shields, recovering after being hijacked out of a vehicle. Players who were casual wouldn't know about it, and wouldn't care, and players who were skilled would have the option, but again it would be a slightly difficult thing to pull off. That way there aren't any worries about it just being spammed by anyone halfway decent to the point where it ruins the fun for someone playing for their first time.

Well I guess I better put some pants on.

I feel like I'm gonna break this thing!

Equipment changes EVERYTHING.

Have fun!!!

I do like equipment. I like to think about what's the smartest to do with, for example, my bubble shield.

Thnx for the awesome sig Smyf!

and now it is my duty to completely drain you

At least take out the bubble, it slows down gameplay too much. At least it is possible to kill someone in a regen without being in it yourself. The regen and drainer can make for some cool multikill metals if used correctly...

  • 09.18.2009 1:00 PM PDT

Life is interesting...

Halo 2 was definitely more of a fair game. If someone shot you first but you were more skilled you could easily kill him. Now, whoever shoots first is more than likely going to win. Equipment balances this issue.

What do other people think? ODST doesn't have equipment, YES!

I agree (for the elites) Rargna, blargna,im an AWESOME DINO!!!!

get rid of the non essential equipment such as gravlift and the regenerater (it only delays an en evadable fate and gravlifts dont have any potential in protection or in killing)

Gravlifts can be useful. Not the useful as in "this will help me get a kill/preventing me from being killed.", but allows you to go up to where an enemie, let's say a sniper, is, without going out into the open or going through the entire enemy team. High Ground is a good example for this.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

I hope it's gone.
It was cool at first, but does not really belong in Halo.

Personally, I don't want to see equipment in Reach, but if it does return, it really needs to be redone.

I hate the Bubble Shield and Regenerator, because they're basically a "Get out of jail free" card:

"Getting shot at? Deploy the Bubble Shield! It has a huge radius, and it lasts for twenty seconds! And if you have shotgun, you can just sit there until it dissipates!"

On the other hand, I like the Grav Lift, because it's nothing more than a support tool. It's neutral and doesn't do any damage.

Here's how I would change the Power Drainer:

It should be like an EMP blast, rather than a continual drain. When you deploy it, it won't immediately detonate, it should be like a grenade. It should beep slowly when you deploy it, and beep faster closer to detonation.

Just cause the grav lift has slim to no combat function, it sure as hell makes it easier to get up from the bottom of Ghost town to the top, or over the wall on high ground. Seriously, put a grav lif on ANY map and you will find a good use for it (Epitaph, Construct, and Blackout have MANY areas a grav lift would be useful.

but is it really necessary to have it aside from you get a extra boost in your jump.

All your forklift are belong to us

i agree especially on the ability to not see your teammates

  • 09.18.2009 10:37 PM PDT

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Equipment was definitely a high point for Halo. It allowed for players to strategize and play in new and exciting ways for Halo 3. If Halo 3 had shipped with the same multiplayer as Halo 2, it wouldn't have done as well as it did.

  • 09.18.2009 10:54 PM PDT

ISU Cyclones!

I vote for it to stay, but a slight downgrade to the Power Drain and Regen wouldn't hurt. Fixing the Radar Jammer and especially the Flare would be great too so Bungie could but them back in matchmaking.

I loved the Flare. But the stupid cheaters took it away from me.

I think equipment should be removed, plain and simple.

There was Halo before there was equipment.
