Subject: Remember BUNGIE, keeping the game simple is a GOOD THING!

In to days games every creator is trying to make there game look and appeal to everyone. There games are too complex. Bungie, you dont need tons of grooves on the walls so your grenades bounce off everywhere (AKA Blackouts stairs on bottom middle)You don't need Equipment in the game. I dont know how many times Ive heard "F the bubble shield" or "Wow their camping in a bubble". Developers need to rethink their strategies and settle down a bit. All you need is a simple FPS with no gimmicks. Take Counter-strike for instance, the game is as simple as it can get and its the Number 1 FPS of all time. All I'm saying is you dont have to come up with the "next evolutionary" change in games.

"Violence isnt the answer, but it sure is the solution"

So your suggesting they go back back in the games evolution?
I think that the equipment was a great idea. Just because it annoys you and other people, doesnt mean its bad. Its just being used effectively.
And having realistic maps where grenades bounce how they should is a bad thing? Just because it can annoy you.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I am inclined to agree. Simplicity makes it a whole lot easier to achieve balance and keep solid gameplay pacing. When too many things are given to the player and things are overcomplicated the canvas becomes a little too cluttered.

It's funny how Halo CE is regarded by many to be the best in the trilogy, yet it has the least amount of weapons.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Keep it simple, not easy.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Really? Counter Strike is the number 1 FPS of all time? Can I ask you a question? (Kinda didn't give you the choice there did I? :P) Anyways, why are you here telling Bungie how to make an FPS when Counter Strike is the best of all time? Shouldn't you be playing Counter Strike or something?

Anyways, Grooves and stuff are fine by me, why would grooves screw up game play? If you are throwing at a rocky textured place hoping to bounce the grenade off at a 45 degree angle, well then you are dumb. Things like rocky textures are unpredictable. Same with stairs. If you want to bounce a grenade off of some stairs, I have another question for you, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?

Though Halo CE was great, i dont think its logical to compare the two. Halo CE was not xbox live enabled. Im guessing people generally spend far more time on Halo 3 then they ever did on Halo CE. What im saying is, I think variety is good for a game that gets played as much as Halo 3.

It all depends. Does simple = plain. I like putting different types of jams on my toast, I don't like them plain.

I think the base game should be simple, but from there, it should bloom with customization, options, etc. You should almost be able to make it a whole new game. The game to end all games type of mentality.

simple is great for production

I see what you are saying and you do present a solid point, but I know people that still play CE. XBL does have a huge impact on how a game is made, I believe that very much, but that doesn't mean there need to be so many features that gameplay suffers. It also doesn't mean that XBL dictates longevity, but it certainly can help (or hinder) these days.

I am speaking strictly about weapons however, environmental complexity is nice as long as it doesn't flirt with frustrating (Cortana level on Halo3). But the weapon scheme doesn't need more clutter and more options, it needs to be more specific and mesh better with the gameplay and the map options IMO.
