Thnx for the awesome sig Smyf!

and now it is my duty to completely drain you

One major problem I have with Halo 3 is the way grenades react to certain surfaces (the walls on Construct, stairs on Ghost Town, gaps between boxes on Foundry). Obviously the textures that bungie puts on the maps makes them look amazing, but in my opinion, they hurt gameplay dramatically. They create inconsistencies that make the outcome of a certain battle or game less fair.

Have you ever tried to bank a grenade off a wall in O3 or C3 on Contruct and have it bounce back at you, or try to bounce one up the stairs from rockets to party room on Ghost town? Its very frustrating. Halo 2 did not have these frustrating textures, thus none of these problems.

So here's my idea. Obviously the textures look great, so keep them. But put a thin, invisible wall over every non-smooth surface to reduce inconsistent outcomes. This invisible wall should be as thin as possible and as close as possible to the visible surface so there are not weird graphics of grenades bouncing randomly off nothing. This should make competitive gamers very happy while having little to no effect on those who play the game purely for relaxation.

hey!

... that's a good idea. really. simplify the map geometry to get rid of BS.
good idea. >.< it was so simple...

Steven

How is it unfair when both sides have to worry about it? Furthermore, why would you want to take away from the realism?

My advice, look where your throwing.

How does it make the game unfair? It's the same map for everybody. Which makes it fair.

Awkward bounces only make sense. Nothing is ever perfectly smooth in environements. And they'd shouldn't be. Nature does not shape perfectly, and buildings aren't all built of 90 and 45 degree angles, with no objects in the way.

It is fair, but it is also incredibly frustrating when you throw a grenade off a floor and it either stops cold or bounces back in your face because it hit a tiny bump that is barely noticeable. When you have these ledges all it does is increase the randomness in the game which is not fun at all.

This is a great idea.

Totality disagree with this idea. I love to see a uneven wall making bounces unpredictable. Think for all the bad times, all the times that the little dimple in the wall made something amazing happen. ( Refer to the bouncing bullet down the dark hall way on the pit. 7/8 bounces before hitting someone? )

"Violence isnt the answer, but it sure is the solution"

I very rarely have that problem, because i look carefully when im throwing nades.
Its only when im rushing them that things can go a little bit odd.

Its a video game that IS NOT based around realism. It is based upon fair competition and fun, and a grenade bouncing straight back into you face provides neither.

7even is Darker

Its not the textures, it's the geometry, difference.

And No, I don't want a last gen looking title,

All the "textures" you are talking about are NOT textures. They are geometry. Textures are simply a picture pasted onto geometry, they simply make an object look a certain way, they do not have things bounce off of them or anything like that.

So what you mean to say is "Bungie should get rid of all the excess geometry that they put on Halo 3 maps in abundance."

or you could just learn where and not where to throw your grenades.

It all reacts rather appropriately. Walls with columns deviding it could arguably add to the skill of the game--> throw it in between or else theres a chance you'll miss/ hurt yourself.

And you're talking about geometry, not textures.

There's plenty of clean maps in halo. Then there's maps like Ghost Town and Valhalla for me.
