Subject: Release Halo 1 multiplayer on XBLA

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I would love to see, HALO CE on the live marketplace, I don't see why they didn't have the multiplayer for live, on the downloadable version in the market place...

i don't think live was even out back when it was released. i may be wrong.

Nope your right, Halo was gonna be LIVE enabled but LIVE didn't launch with the Xbox where as Halo did. Had LIVe been quicker then Bungie would have had time to work with it but that never happened.

On the multiplayer note, i'd love it.
It'll never happen realistically though.

That's not completely true. Microsoft has the rights to Halo CE, and releasing XBL multiplayer on XBLA is a great way to boost sales

You. Know. Nothing. Only the veteran players and a few parents would buy it. All the teens and kids are far too caught up in gimmicks and graphics and "the next big thing". Most of them haven't even played this game. Why the hell would they go out and pay $60 for this old game, while a new one, maybe Halo: REACH or Gears of War 3 is available instead?

halo 1s multiplayer wasnt the best but FPS was new in 2003 but then people played with split screen then when live came out it was WAY better.

@ Venom - Pc Gamers as a whole are generally a bit more informed and knowledgeable than their console counterparts with that sort of thing.

1. Halo: CE came out in 2001.
2. FPS had been out for the better part of a decade. It was just refined more.

Consider this: Halo 1 was the game that is responsible for the popularity of the series. On top of that, XBLA titles only go for about 10-15 bucks. You sound like on of the kids who said that an MLG playlist would fail in Halo matchmaking.

Of course, if you're just going to be a -blam!- then you can leave the thread.

Halo: CE is already on the XBLA. I, and many others, have stated this many, many times. They would need to recode the entire game to make it XBL-compatible. By that point, it would no longer be a mere $15 title. It would be $40 to a full priced title.

But, as I said before, it is most likely only the veteran players who would buy it. Sure, there would be some who want to play the original in glorious online play, but they would be the exception, not the norm. This game is old and outdated. That does not mean I hate the game. It is still my favourite. It simply means that the rest of the genre has moved on.

Then they should re-code it. Just like they did with Marathon (how much was that on the marketplace again? I forgot).

Alot more people than you think would download Halo 1 XBL multiplayer

Good Lord you still don't get it do you?

Marathon is an old game, there is not much coding in comparison to more recent games, Halo 1 included. It would take a long ass time for a company to make a netcode for it. PEOPLE DON'T WORK FOR FREE!

If you don't know what you're talking about, then don't talk!

You are right. Halo CE came out on November 15, 2001. Xbox live didn't come out until a year later. I would say this is probably why we will never get an xbox live multiplayer setup for Halo CE. They would basically have to go back and rewrite the game to make it work on live.

It kinda sucks but there is always LAN parties, Xbox connect, or the PC version of the game for mulitplayer.

Neither do I man. Neither do I
Oh. My. GOD.

HOW MANY TIMES MUST WE EXPLAIN THIS!?

Halo: Combat fucking Evolved was released before X-Box Live. That means they had NO netcode, and NOTHING in terms of guidelines to follow.

So I guess were just going to ignore the fact that Marathon was released before XBL too, yet we are able to play it on XBL.
So I guess you'll just ignore the fact that Marathon is a helluva lot different, and easier to re-code, than Halo: CE.

Marathon was not re-coded. It is a totally new game. They have no shared code.

It looks to me as though that was not the point you were trying to make. It looks as if you were trying to justify a company going out and actually doing it and then selling it for $15 just like Marathon.

The point I was trying to make from this thread is that it would be a good idea for Halo 1 XBL multiplayer to be released through XBLA.

The point I was trying to make while argueing with that -blam!- is that economically, it would be a good idea and is possible to accomplish because we have Marathon on XBL

Alright, let me try and piece together your completely disparate points.

Point #1: It would be a good idea to re-code the entire game and release it on X-Box Live Arcade.

Point #2: While arguing with me, the asshole, you are trying to say that it would be economically viable to re-code the entire game.

Point #3: You are trying to say that it would be possible to re-code the entire game and release it on X-Box Live Arcade because they did that for Marathon.

Now, allow me to reply to said disparate points.

1: You didn't provide reasoning here, so neither will I. NO.

2: Yes, I am an asshole, because you ignore every point we(yes, we) make. It would not be economically viable, because it would take dozens of people probably close to a year, maybe two years, to re-code the game, as well as adding "improvements" and other changes. These people do not work for free. This working cost would cause the game's price to reach close to the $60 mark. Let me make this simple. The majority of people out there are not going to buy an old game just because it has been re-made. The market these days wants NEW, the market these days wants GIMMICKS, the market these days wants SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Is that clear enough?

3: Yes, it is possible. It is also possible to do the same with Gears of War.

1. We are able to play Halo 2 and 3 on XBL, why shouldn't we be able to play Halo 1 on live? Espically with such a dedicated fanbase to the original, many more people than you think would play it.

2. That's complete bull-blam!-. The developers at Bungie are smart enough to recode the multiplayer aspect of the game in a much shorter time than it took them to put together they're crappy excuse for a campaign expansion (ODST).

You just don't realize that more people LAN Halo 1 now than people that play Halo 2 on XBL. And when Reach comes out, more people will LAN Halo 1 over Halo 3 players. You have no idea how many people still play this game, -blam!-.

3. We'll, at least you've got some brains on that point.

Okay, you can leave the thread now because your being a complete -blam!-

The "dedicated fanbase" is relatively small. AND FOR -blam!-'S SAKE, PEOPLE CAN PLAY HALO 2 AND HALO 3 ON X-BOX LIVE BECAUSE THE GAME'S WERE DESIGNED TO SUPPORT X-BOX LIVE PLAY!!

2. That's complete bull-blam!-. I never said they weren't smart enough. Halo took at least 4 years to make. Just because they have more people, it doesn't mean that progress will be exponentially faster.

And people don't play Halo 2 anymore because *gasp* Halo 3 is out! That, and Halo 2 is being discontinued.

3. We'll, at least you've got some brains on that point.
